on my Mac it shows up in Verdana like a giant lower case a, on my PC it shows up in Verdana, but as a square.

No problem. Yeah, Uniview is pretty good. The Technical Symbols > Miscellaneous Technical category is especially useful, since it gives you access to some of the symbols apple uses for shortcut keys (e.g. ⌘, ⌥, etc.)
