@Hakase How many pictures do you need (order of magnitude)? I can probably get 1k or so good SFW yuri pics in an hour or two, but if we need 10k it'll require some serious work, and 100k is probably impossible short of manually scraping pixiv.

@Eric It's linear actually. At a certain point the amount of effort to find a new one is overtaken by the amount of effort to just create a new one, which is either linear or slightly sub-linear.

But if we ignore that and only allow finding them, then it actually goes asymptotic at some relatively tractable number, maybe as low as 10 million.

Luckily, even 20k is proving to last us a while for all our practical needs, and at that level it's still quite easy to get more. But we'd run into problems much faster if they all need to be yuri images.

@LoganM I would think it's exponential because as soon as you exhaust one source, there's the added time of having to find a new source. It might be linear within each source, but there's that added time. And as you run out of sources, the search time to find another becomes greater.

@Eric No, it can't be exponential forever, since even if you look through all existing sources, there's only finitely many.

The only way would be to index the entire internet, find all images, then use an algorithm to determine cuteness and gender of the image.

Don't worry about it, it's a nonsensical discussion anyway.

If we want to be really silly, at some very large number, you can no longer create any more images of a fixed resolution which you haven't already done. So you'll have to go to a larger resolution, and the amount of effort required in producing a higher resolution image will not be constant. So for large enough numbers, it'll be somewhat slower than linear.

But that's being very abstract about the notion of what a "cute girl" is, and assuming there are infinitely many possibilities. In reality, there's only finitely many, since at some point the required resolution of the image is more than what a human brain is capable of processing. So it really does go asymptotic at some finite (incredibly large) number.

This is actually serious though. We're trying to understand the space of cute girls. There's a certain landscape, and it's a reasonable question how quickly it gets covered. I'd venture that it's even applicable in actual work to understand these things, much like understanding the string landscape has helped us in understanding quantum gravity even from a non-stringy perspective.

Of course, the sorts of questions one would want to be able to answer for applications are slightly different, and probably much harder, than the particular tractable limits we do understand. But it at least gives us some way to progress in modelling this.

Yea because Chiyuki didn't get access to the memories of the dead (except in one episode), so she didn't recognize the old woman.

Decim has his memories about the dead periodically erased, so he probably doesn't remember either, or he is just not showing it.
