@LoganM how many episode is in 1 volume?

2 episodes
6 volumes total (plus bonus volume 7)

that's a rip off to import, i got Yuru Yuri Season 1 and 2 Premium Editions and Brave 10 Prenium Edition from the US, 12 Episodes for about $70, Toradora dubbed Premium Edition which is 25 epsiodes + all OVAs is about 120, 2 episodes for about $50 is bullshit
Toradora comes with 4 BD disks and 4 DVDs as well
and those prices are including shipping from the US to Australia

Japanese BDs are always more expensive than their English counterparts. IIRC Japan has the highest anime prices in the world.

@LoganM christ, and here i thought it it would be cheaper to buy direct from Japan than from the US, it normally is for figures

The real benefit of buying the Japanese release (apart from the quality, which is typically significantly better) is that you get it immediately.
@Memor-X For any exclusive merchandise like figures, Japan gets it cheapest. Same is true for manga, but not anime.

12:09 AM
@LoganM i suppose that's a good trade off but if i'm going to pay close to $400 on 1 season then i better be sure to get subs, it'll be a waste to buy it and not understand a single word

That's why you can watch it first streaming, then watch the BD version.
Anyway, I'm going to see what data I can access from these sites via the API.
I forgot that I don't technically know how to program. I'm going to go learn that so that I can figure out how to use the API.

Q: Are questions about crunchyroll on topic?

David StarkeyAre questions about crunchyroll (and other popular anime-focused software) on topic here? I figured the users most likely to be able to answer a question about crunchyroll would be here, but there is a webapps SE site. I know Arqade takes questions about Steam, which in itself is not a game.

@Eric When someone/thing breaks a streak, you're supposed to bin the offending message and edit the bin message to continue the streak.
:)

SEEMS LEGIT.

Many of the edited messages were bin messages re-edited to continue the streak.

You nutters.

We don't have 2.7 million messages for no reason.
Though I think the Feeds room is going to catch up pretty quickly.

The feeds room represents a fairly significant fraction of all recent messages on chat SE. It wouldn't surprise me if someone noticed just because the rate at which chat message numbers increase suddenly changed.

Kinda sad that it's limited to 5/post/feed.
Otherwise, I could just put one on the front page of SO.
Or if they had chat feeds, you could have two feed rooms feeding each other.

1:36 AM
By my count the feeds room contains 34% of all Chat.SE messages that have been posted since it was created.

Which isn't bad at all for 30 min. of effort.

You could probably get it up to 50% without much trouble (roughly double what you've already done). I think it would be hard to go a lot past that.

Right now they're coming in at just under 10k a day.
The biggest site that isn't already in there has only 60 questions/day.
It does do duplicates. Say one from the homepage and one from a tag.
So there is some sort of multiplier you could extract.

For comparison The Bridge gets roughly 2k per day. I'm fairly sure they're the most active on Chat Se.
You could add feeds for things outside the network. Not sure if those update less frequently, but it should be possible to generate essentially an infinite amount that way.

right

1:44 AM
Based on stackexchange.com/sites#questionsperday, I'd imagine getting more than 10k posts per day with questions is probably impossible anyway.

Which makes me wonder. How the hell did I get it up to 50k in 6 days.
Surely most of the stuff from SO would've been capped away by the limit of 5.

You have some answer feeds too I thought.

@LoganM They're coming from the user feeds for a few active users.
While they're very active, it should still be negligible to the rest of it.
We might get 15+ out of Jon Skeet each day - out of 10k total? lol

As for SO, I'd need to check the rate of feeds posting to the room. IIRC it can be as often as 15 minutes, which would then let you get nearly 500 questions per day for a single tag. That would get roughly half of the incoming questions on the largest tags, and most or all on smaller ones.
I do find the rate at which it's getting posts to be a bit surprising though.

Also, I gave you ownership. Feel free to tinker with it.

1:51 AM
meh I'll just leave it there. I don't want to mess with it too much.

The feeds room would also be a great place to troll another room.
You could just move a bunch of them to the target room.
Pure evil.

You could just move the entire room there. They'd never be able to clean it up.
AFAIK there's no limit on moving messages.
which is honestly an exploit just waiting to happen if it's actually true.

the entire chat stuff is an exploit
:P

What is the purpose of the feeding room?

feed us
not you :P

2:04 AM
Then you should go to that room to let them feed you :)

I'm not hungry right now, later

Artificial Intelligence is now trying the third round

@hwlau third time's the charm i guess, maybe this time they'll finally be able to iron out their policies

@Memor-X I ask and answer few questions there, I just felt that there are not enough questions and expert involve there. Probably they need to try ten times for it to success.

2:23 AM
The problem with AI is that it's too popular for the Area 51 process to work.
You can easily get 200 people from SO to commit to an AI proposal because it would be a cool site. But out of them, only 2 or 3 will have any expertise with actual work, either in applications of machine learning or in theory.
If it weren't as popular and only attracted more serious people, IMO it would work as an SE site, though most of the questions could also go on existing sites.

@LoganM Exactly what I observe, also the people doesn't seem too enthusiastic to ask questions there.

Now that I think about it. If you feed-bombed another room with 50k messages. It would be really difficult for them to clean it up.

It is a bit strange that we should not let the commitment grow too fast at the beginning.

@Mysticial Yes, it would be basically impossible

I don't think moderators have bulk moderation options.
You would need a user-script running on a room owner account to clean it up.

2:30 AM
Are you studying how to use the feed as weapon to attack other rooms?

I guess a dev could probably fix it with relative ease, but that happening once would be enough that they'd just disable bulk moving messages entirely.

@hwlau We're entertaining ourselves with the idea. If any of us actually did it, I'm certain we'd all be banned permanently.

@Mysticial At least from chat, if not from the main sites.
I've considered this before. The method I was contemplating though was a bit more refined than just sending 50k messages into a single room.
I think it's only a matter of time before someone crazy tries something like that, though.

Even though I came up with this idea of "feed-bombing" a chatroom, I take no responsibility for how other people decide to use it. :D

There are easily worse abuses you can do.
If you just make a network of fake accounts, you can easily get 10-20 up to 15 rep in a few days. Then just spam flag all the posts of someone you don't like. Sure, you'll be banned for it, but it would also be a pain for them to clean up.

2:35 AM
That's probably easier to clean up than a feed-bomb.

You can do the same thing in chat much easier to basically keep someone banned all the time, and it's harder to track.
Though I think they've made some improvements to what mods see on their end for chat flags.
@Mysticial I've never seen anyone actually get back the 100 rep from bad spam flags. I'm not sure it's easy to do. I do know that mods can't change the status of a flag once it's marked helpful.

@LoganM There's a mod option to reverse a spam flag and restore the rep.

I wasn't aware of that. Good to know.
I'll avoid picking that as my abuse of choice then.

But AFAICT, the only way to clean up a feed-bomb is to write a user-script.
Preventing one is easy, gallery mode.
But obviously, you can't use that everywhere.

Does Gallery mode prevent moving messages?

2:40 AM
You can only move messages to a room if you have write-access to that room.

That makes sense.
Otherwise it would be a relatively easy way to circumvent Gallery mode.
BTW how do you intend to actually select 50k messages to move? I doubt my browser could handle that many on the screen at once.
(hypothetically of course)

Good point.
You'd need a script.
But you could probably do a few thousand without much trouble.
They aren't gifs.
You could well... gif-bomb a room.
40MB gifs.

I can do around 1000 gifs before my browser starts to die, so I could probably get reasonably far into the oneboxes.
As for gif bombs, one of the ones I posted in T&S is 150 MB. I've made ones as big as 3 GB, but I didn't have a good way to post it.

@LoganM i remember downloading that one
it was that monogatari one with the tower of tables

Since feeds don't bump the chatroom, I can totally see someone hooking up an bunch of external feeds to pornographic gifs. And then using it to bomb another room.

2:50 AM
Found it: giant.gfycat.com/JampackedFlashyGoldenmantledgroundsquirrel.gif Note: this file is 150 MB. Don't click unless you have the bandwidth for that.

Now go gif-bomb another room with a thousand of them.
:)

I think I'd probably have to make them different somehow. If it's the same image loading 1000 times, it doesn't seem like it would take that much more that just loading it once.

oh you're right.
But at least you'll kill their renderer.
This feeds room is actually pretty good tool for looking for deleted posts.
If you have the title, but can't find the post because it's deleted...

I'm gonna add a few sites for which I'd like that functionality.

feel free :) The goal is to make it as post as much as possible.
At least without having to go off-network.

2:55 AM
The ones I'll be adding are mostly meta sites (that's where the best dorama is) so it won't affect the total rate that much.

ah

3:06 AM
Okay, how do these feeds actually work? How do I create a custom one?

You just enter the feed url.

I tried adding mathoverflow.net/feeds but it doesn't format it like the other ones

You need to wait a bit.
It auto-formats after a while.

okay I'll wait and add some more in the meantime

Wait, you're doing ticker feeds.
You want the other one.

3:09 AM
Yeah I realized that

lol, your changing feed messages are already buried.
lol, the room got bumped.

Sorry

We need to bump it anyways.
Once every two weeks at least.

Bumping it is going to be a bit risky.

then why do you need to bump it?

3:12 AM
Might be better just to have a mod unfreeze it every 2 weeks.
@hwlau Otherwise it'll freeze.

can mod lock the room?

@LoganM I doubt any passerby is gonna notice how "active" that room is.

Actually, technically, it doesn't yet have 10 messages by 2 people, by that count. Hence I think we need to bump it every week or else it'll be deleted.

They'll probably just see it as someone playing around with feeds. (which is true)

We could fix that now though.

3:13 AM
But they won't know that it puts almost 10k messages a day.
@LoganM It needs to be more than one person?

Is the feed message count differen from user count?

@Mysticial Yes, needs 10 messages by at least 2 people to avoid being deleted.

@hwlau nope. Doesn't count towards anything.

@Mysticial Then why do they want to put the feed as a part of chat?
They should make it a part of specialized notification system

A feed is just a bot.

3:16 AM
oops, ic, it makes thing eaiser

lol, A51

There is feed for A51?

I was watching the screen with my message, and suddenly without even blinking it was nowhere to be seen at all. I started cracking up for that.

How can I get that?

@hwlau Yeah I added it

3:18 AM
link please
@LoganM I see the same thing

@ton.yeung Could you set up Hoi-hoi-san to bump the feeds room once a day.

it just look like something is broken

A bunch of the feeds I just added posted simultaneously.

That'll be 14 messages each freeze interval.
So only one of us needs to bump it to keep it alive.
@ton.yeung :(
I don't know JS. :(

@Mysticial what?

3:20 AM
k
ah... :(

@Mysticial Should it all work out at once to reduce the attention?

@hwlau I don't think anyone will care.
You're allowed to fool around with chat rooms as long as it isn't disruptive to other rooms.

ic

Shog ok'ed our gif-room.

That's true to some degree. I'm not sure posting 10k messages per day counts.

3:23 AM
@LoganM That's actually not at all obvious.
Since the count doesn't show up unless you search.

It is not obvious, but you two are suspicious :/

There are examples of rooms getting closed when they didn't have a relevant discussion. See e.g. meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/139228/…
OTOH experimentation with chat is allowed to some degree also.

really? then I should give it a try
will they leave some trace after the room is closed?

Yeah, we can see deleted rooms.

Frozen rooms are visible to all users, and deleted rooms to 10k+ network-wide rep users
Chat SE is actually one of the worst places to try to hide stuff in deleted content, because over half of all regular users here can see deleted rooms.
Though the chance anyone actually ever looks is pretty low.

3:32 AM
ok what'd I miss?

Are you sure there is half of them have 10k+ using chat room?
I still don't have

I actually checked this one time, and it was about half.
I'll check again though

@Krazer They are feeding a room.

I see you're discussing gallery room.

@LoganM over half. why there is only high rep user using the chat room

3:34 AM
@hwlau Just that high rep users are more likely to come here regularly.
Lower rep users still show up, but they aren't as regular.

ya, low rep users usually don't even know there is chatroom.
@Mysticial So can you still see the deleted gif-room somewhere

what we can do is give ppl owner status to help maintain it, but also some ppl write status if the nee ever arises

There's a deleted gif room?

@LoganM not in our community

Yeah I'm pretty sure I know all the deleted rooms we've had.

3:52 AM
lol I just saw this question through the feeds room.
