@ton.yeung White Album and White Album 2 are quite different.
Baldr Sky isn't likely to ever get an anime. The studio just isn't interested in it.
@ton.yeung Same series, different characters, very different atmosphere, and AFAIR the stories are unrelated.
@ton.yeung Yes. They're also separated by 11 years in terms of production dates.
@ton.yeung They're going to.
White Album 1 was animated right before 2 was produced, probably to create hype. But they're pretty unrelated.
Also, usually VN sequels aren't direct sequels with the same characters because most VNs try to conclude the full story (barring things like fandisks). The exceptions are things like Baldr Sky where they deliberately didn't finish the story in one installment and F/SN where the conclusion of the story doesn't bar future stories involving the same characters.
But an 11 year separation between the first and second installments is basically unheard-of.
@ton.yeung A well-written romance story usually won't admit a direct sequel. For other genres it depends on the story.
@ton.yeung I guess you could if you really wanted to, but I don't think it would be very good.
@ton.yeung I don't really care about the genre itself, but most VNs are at least nominally billed as romance genre.
You're supposed to do that anyway. In a lot of these games you have to finish all the other routes to even unlock the true end.
@ton.yeung Just don't start with a really long one. It's quite a bit easier to play a 30 hour game than a 200 hour one.
G-senjou no Maou or Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo might be good ones to start with. Looking at the other things on my desktop right now, Hoshizora no Memoria and Katawa Shoujo are both ones that a lot of people liked and are available in English.
None of those are extremely long.
I suggest getting a bunch of fairly high-rated or highly played ones on VNDB without looking into them too much (otherwise you risk spoilers), and just trying them out for a while. You should probably also give each of them at least a few hours worth of playtime before determining whether you like them. Playing to the opening video is usually sufficient to tell if you're going to enjoy the game.
@ton.yeung Usually VNs have OPs the same as anime, though they're a bit longer.
I actually often use them to determine whether I'm going to be interested in the game at all.
here's the OP from g-sen, for example. It gives you a pretty good idea of what kind of atmosphere it will have.
Sometimes they have early-game spoilers. If that's going to bother you then don't. They don't usually have a lot of late-game spoilers (other than artwork) and you'll see them in normal gameplay anyway so you'd get spoiled then also.
In any case most VN OPs are on youtube, though you might have to search the title in Japanese. They're used more as promotional material than actual content so they don't usually get taken down.
