hrrm. Talkative badge looks easy enough

@iKlsR Outspoken was a pain, but talkative is easy enough.

@iKlsR wut

XD
accio

@iKlsR you just got talkative lol

12:14 AM
XD wee

Yay, badge rigging! My favorite! lol

:D

Hmm... I wonder.
Could you get Reversal if you both asked and answered the question?

possibly
the badges descriptions are so vague

12:15 AM
@LoganM Do you know what this says? ユニット構成発表

No mention of not allowing self-answers.

sweet

@LoganM Yeah, but it's also wrong. You can get Reversal multiple times.

@Eric Unit organization announcement (or something similar)

Hmm. Crap.
That's what I got too, but I have no idea what they mean by "unit" there, lol.

12:17 AM
ユニット - unit
構成 - kousei - organization/composition
発表 - happyou - announcement/publication
@Eric Are we still talking about Love Live? Probably the idol unit.

@LoganM Ah, that's probably it.
Yes, we are.

When multiple idols are part of a group, it's called an idol unit. I don't know why, but it's standard terminology.

... That's weird. I thought it was just "idol group". lol

what is the purpose of meta rep and badges.. T_T

@iKlsR Meta rep is only individual on SO.

12:23 AM
@Eric Typically a group is larger than a unit. A unit will perform together frequently, while the group as a whole might have too many members to perform together all at once. For instance, AKB48 is an idol group with 87 members, but they have a large number of units (6 right now), all of them with fewer than 10 members.

87 is a lot of people

@Danalog It's the largest pop music group in the world IIRC.

Hrm, it's only been a day since I opened my bounty, but I doubt I'm gonna get a better answer to my question. I wonder if I should leave it open for more attention, or just award it.
87 sounds like a corporation and not a pop music group!

@Danalog that looks like an ok answer to me
and yeah doubt it

It's better than I was expecting
TBH

12:28 AM
@Danalog Even if you like the answer, there's no reason to award the bounty too quickly. It draws a lot of attention to the question and brings lots of upvotes for both you and the answerer.

@LoganM what do you mean by plagiarizes without attribution?

@LoganM Yeah, I'm sure you're right, but I'm just impatient =)

@iKlsR Your tag wiki entry is copied from some external source. I don't know the origin of the text, but it's practically identical to the MAL description. Tag wiki descriptions can't be copied from external sources in most cases, because the requirements for attribution are typically very difficult to satisfy, so they need to be original writing.

ah, fair enough, I usually reword and simplify them

It's fine to look at external sources, but it needs to be all in your own words. Also, generally, it's good practice to link to the relevant Wikipedia entry in the tag wiki, though that isn't really required. If you do those then I'll have no problem approving it.

12:33 AM
ah np then
this thing is getting ridiculous.. haha.. gnu's make, ruby's rake, coffeescript's cake .. now haskell has hake.. wtf XD
microsoft nmake, mingw32-make

Also, we've got lots of plagiarized tag wikis at the moment, and only recently have we gotten stricter about it. If you find other instances of this, feel free to submit an edit replacing the plagiarized content.

sure, I'm always foraging through them
why did i use that word..

@iKlsR I have no idea.

heh
Physics finals on the morrow
adieu

Good luck.
@Mysticial You're alive!

12:45 AM
hi

@kuwaly Hai!

1:14 AM
@Eric No he's a zombie
BTW @Eric what's your opinion on Bitcoin.SE? They probably have the best stats in area51, but haven't graduated.
600
Bitcoinbitcoin.stackexchange.com

Beta Q&A site for Bitcoin crypto-currency enthusiasts.

Currently in public beta.

They don't have enough 10ks.
AFAIK, a site needs to have enough 10ks to moderate with minimal moderator intervention.
*I might be wrong though...

@Mysticial They have 3, which is more than some graduated sites had at the time. Sharepoint and Drupal both only had 1, and Bicycles didn't have any.

interesting
then it's probably a case with delta rep being too low
I think that's what's holding back code review as well.

1:30 AM
It is true that all the recently launched sites (within the past year) have had at least 5 10k's, and most had more than that. So it could be that there was a policy change about a year ago to keep sites in beta longer and get more 10k users.
BTW @Mysticial is there any acceptable way to target specific users on other SE sites? I've found around 20 with anime avatars, none of whom have accounts here but who are regular contributors on other sites. But unless I see them in chat (unlikely) there doesn't seem to be any way to contact them without being classified as spam.

@LoganM nope
Comments are off-topic.
And super-ping is not to be used for such purposes.

Yup, that's what I figured. ;.;
I was more wondering if the SE internal ads could be targeted towards specific users somehow, but that seems unlikely since most sites wouldn't have any good way to identify who to target.

2:10 AM
@LoganM I think they're getting lazy with graduations.
And closings (of betas) as well. Bitcoin has been maintaining those stats for a while now.

@Eric I'm not sure if it's laziness or something else. We know that they're planning to replace Area51, which would presumably affect all beta sites as well in some way. It could be that they're waiting for that to be finished before they do anything. Or it could just be laziness.

@LoganM It could be either or both, yeah. I'm tempted to say it's a bit of both.
But they did say it wouldn't negatively impact anyone. So they shouldn't be afraid to grad sites.
I'm astounded that Bitcoin.SE has 12k V/D. Do that many people really use it?

@Eric bitcoin is pretty big in the darknet

@Krazer Craaazy. I was told to get into it around 10 years ago, and I still won't touch it with a 39.5ft pole.

@Eric I have no idea, but it's been in the news a lot recently and Bitcoin SE is one of the few sites focused on it with a lot of experts.

2:19 AM
Yeah, I guess that's one thing they have going for them. And one we have working against us.

@Krazer Yeah that's true too. Most darknet sites use bitcoin.
@Eric Isn't it only 5 years old?

@LoganM You're right. I thought it was during my Flash development days, but it must have been IRC (which was 2006-2009). My mistake.

Bitcoin has proven a great investment so far, though I can't help but think it'll run into legal trouble before it becomes widespread. I wouldn't be buying right now either as the price seems inflated by recent news coverage and will probably drop if the news stops.

@Eric lol flash

@Krazer Don't hate on Flash! I was 12 years old and had a game with working skills, chat, and item trading. Flash is what made me a programmer. :P

2:26 AM
@Eric lol@AS2

@Krazer AS2 is <3. AS3 is bullshit. lol

lol I started programming with punch cards. My dad still had his old punch card computer from college which he taught me with. It was horrible.

@LoganM Oh, wow...

@Eric It really makes you appreciate even low-level languages like Fortran.

I learned to appreciate low-level after learning assembly.

2:29 AM
@Eric rollover and rollout were fun in AS2 if you went fast enough :)

@Krazer Yeah, you had to hack that to work properly. xD

If I had to write a program on one of those things today I'd sooner just quit my job. I even sometimes have trouble if my editor doesn't color-code the program.
Luckily I rarely have to actually write anything. Most of the programs I need were already written by someone else who has spent their career optimizing that one program. All I have to do is run it.

Syntax highlighting spoils us.

BTW @Eric you have <48 hours for either of the bounty questions if you intend to answer them.

@LoganM I have my answer written for the Love Live! one. I wish I could have found more information on the hair/costume ones, though.

2:39 AM
@Eric Even if the answer isn't complete, I'm willing to award the bounty if it's correct. Mostly because I want a badge.

I know. :P But it makes me sad that he wants screenshots of the polls. I don't think those are even available anymore.

I might put a second bounty on it with a lot more rep to get a complete answer, but that seems rather difficult.
@Eric Certainly they're available. Nothing ever disappears on the internet completely.

@LoganM Well, I even checked WayBack machine. No luck. (Only one impression from April 5th, and it hasn't changed since then.)
But you're right, it has to be announced somewhere or something. I just can't find it.
My Japanese search engine skills are lacking.

The way to go with these sorts of questions IMO is 2ch. They surely have a thread with the voting. However, getting archived 2ch posts is incredibly difficult even if you know what you're looking for.

Yeah, I hit up 2ch a bit, but I didn't get far. I wasn't surprised; I wouldn't make it far on the English equivalent, either.

2:44 AM
@Eric Presuming you were looking at current 2ch posts, it's useless. The relevant threads all died long ago.

@LoganM No, I was looking through a log archive of a bunch of them.

You could ask 2ch if they know the answer (or /a/ for that matter) but I think your chances are less than 50/50 of getting a complete answer.

A: What are all the aspects of the Love Live TV series that were voted on by fans?

EricThe polls seem to decide quite a bit of the series, sans plot. Unfortunately, not all of them were broadcast well (at least, that I could find). As you mentioned, characters' hairstyles, costumes, and appearance were voted upon. I was unable to find these specific polls and their results. In part...

Hopefully that's somewhat satisfactory.
Now, the Kimi ni Todoke one... hahaha, right. :P

@Eric I'll wait until the grace period at least to accept it in case someone else wants to give an answer, but it looks pretty good to me.

@Eric where did you hit on 2ch?

2:53 AM
@Eric If you want a starting point for that one, mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=3058

@Krazer To be honest, I don't know. As I said, it was a log archive (offsite) which linked to text versions of some posts. Something like logs2read.net or something.
@LoganM I might give it a shot. We'll see.

Also, you can probably glean some information from comparing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimi_ni_Todoke#Manga and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kimi_ni_Todoke_episodes

The harder part is Also, are there any story arcs which were omitted from the anime up to that point?

@Eric Yes, I know. I wouldn't have bountied it if the answer was already compiled elsewhere.
lol the bounty email I get still tells me to improve the question even if the question isn't mine.

It even says "your question", not "the question".
I was so mad on SO, I tried to get the Altruist badge once, but I missed the award time by 22 minutes, so the guy didn't get it.
I almost started another one to give to him, but I'm selfish.

3:06 AM
@LoganM :D web outlook

@Krazer Gmail is better!
;)

The easiest (and most selfish) way to get it is to bounty a question you've already answered (and at least one other person has) with "This has an exemplary answer worthy of additional whatever" and leave it up there for the whole time. You'll probably get lots of upvotes; enough to make up most of the rep. Then during grace period just award it to someone else.

@Eric gmail is the king of free-email

@LoganM lol
I might do that.

@Krazer My department uses outlook, and I don't care enough to switch to something else.
@Eric The only thing to remember is that if you've answered the question, the minimum bounty you can place is 100. So either do the bounty first, then answer, or else make it count. (It might work if you delete your answer temporarily, start the bounty, and then undelete it, but I haven't tried that.)

3:11 AM
Hey what if we asked "@LoveLive_staff" on twitter what aspects were voted on?

@Krazer Do they have an English twitter account?

@Krazer I didn't think of that. I was looking through their tweet history but it takes too long since I'm not fluent in Japanese.
@LoganM Nope. :|

@Eric It's still possible, but I'm too lazy if I can't do it in English. Writing tweets in Japanese is not a skill I currently possess.

えっ、えっ?

@Krazer なに?

3:15 AM

@LoganM Ugh, I can only read like half of that. xD

@Eric She's deliberately speaking with stereotypical gaijin Japanese. "Nippon ha tabemono oishii desu. Osushi, Tenpura, Samurai, Geisha" with all katakana except a few kanji.

lol
Kanji throw me off quite a bit. I hate when there's one sentence of all hiragana except some noun in kanji and I can't read it.

katakana is used to indicate the foreignness the speech

Yeah.
I've put off learning it for that reason.

3:20 AM
@Eric not enough open memory slots?

@Krazer I've got plenty of memory! It's just that transferring between RAM and the hard disk is a very expensive operation, so it does not usually happen very efficiently. There is a lot of data loss in between.

@Krazer I'm not sure if it's being used to indicate foreignness or lack of proficiency in this case, but it's clear from the context that she's speaking in a stereotypical gaijin manner. However, she's perfectly fluent in Japanese. From the way the dialogue is spoken it's obvious that it's a joke, and the writing matches that pretty well.
...I totally forgot why I posted that image in the first place. lol

lol

@LoganM yeah just alike a robot would say "コンニチワ," the katakana is use because it's foreign sounding

@Krazer That is a good point. I think you're correct.

3:32 AM
@Krazer What's this from?

@Eric Attack on Titan

@Krazer Woo! My suspicions were right.

Yikes, too many animated gifs for my phone.

MUAHAHAHA

Thrills and Spills strikes again!

Thrills and Spills is the greatest of all the chatrooms.

I'll check it out... when I'm not on a phone!

@Krazer I keep waiting for her to get closer! BUT SHE NEVER DOES! ;_;

3:45 AM
@LoganM I love how this answer was written by someone with less than 100 network-wide rep. Then Gilles (134k rep on Unix.SE) comes on by.

What is she holding?

@Krazer LOL

Starfish? Oookkkkkk

@LoganM I wouldn't go that far...
@LoganM You Are Die!

3:49 AM
And I are sleep!
'Night, guys.

@Eric 売買

@Eric Actually, none of the followers of that proposal have more than 500 rep network-wide. I have more rep on Math than all of them combined have network-wide, and my Math rep isn't really anything special.

@Krazer Best girl in the show IMO

Did they just reboot Infinite Stratos?!

3:58 AM
@Krazer Yup. It's a total reboot apparently.
I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm not complaining so long as they have more Char.

did okiura quit or something?

@Krazer That seems to be what people are claiming on 4chan and Sankaku. They're changing the character designer too. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but it must have been pretty drastic for them to be rebooting the series instead of producing a second season.

@LoganM I thought the anime was getting a second season but the LN is getting the reboot
also I hope the new Kyoani anime is FMP
a 4 cour Rewrite anime is acceptable too

@Krazer The Sankaku article is claiming that the anime will also be a reboot. It could be incorrect (which would not be at all surprising).

@LoganM that's not what this article says: news.mynavi.jp/news/2013/04/21/037

4:10 AM
@Krazer Rewrite would be tricky to make into an anime. All of the arcs are important to the overall plot, and there's no easy way to put them together into one story.

@LoganM I know it's too much to hope for D:

Not to mention, the Rewrite OPs were animated by White Fox, and Kyoani didn't take Little Busters despite the fact that it was basically just as successful as Clannad. That makes me suspicious that there was some falling out between Kyoani and Key.
Or it could just be that K-On made so much money that Kyoani's entire business model shifted towards moe. We've recently seen some less moe stuff from them, but for a while it seemed like they were just trying to go for moeblob shows.
I think I'm going to head out now. I probably should have done so hours ago, but whatever.

@LoganM Didn't the president of Visual Arts mention that KyonAni was too busy to do it?
@LoganM 売買

@Krazer Yeah, he did.

well continue this another time
go do that thing you do

Big data is getting closed too.
No big surprise there.

That's what your spy is telling you?

@Mysticial Yup. It's pretty recent news, posted just under 1 hour ago.

On its meta right?

@Mysticial Yeah

interesting

10:20 PM
@Mysticial In case you missed it, Arduino is going to be merged into EE on Wednesday, save a handful of posts going elsewhere.

Arduino didn't make it either?

@Mysticial Nope. Let me grab a screencap of that one.

thx
Your spy is amazing

@Mysticial 3 spies actually

I saw.
Since 3 of them showed up in the search.

10:27 PM
This one is big:
Had to printscreen it because it's private beta so my normal methods for taking pics of websites doesn't work.

holy crap

There's 5 other meta posts related to the site closing as well, though they're focused on the migration aspect so I don't think they're very interesting.
(actually 6; I miscounted)
Anyway tl;dr: Their volume was consistent with a very low volume site. SE is sometimes okay with approving low-volume sites, but those sites whose topics are already covered elsewhere are held to a higher standard. They didn't demonstrate a need for the site to continue existing since most of the topics are covered by EE and the volume wasn't large enough to justify splitting.

wow... those guys on the meta.ar.se post are pissed.

Big data, on the other hand, had far too low volume even for a site that they expected to be low-volume. 28 questions in 6 days of private beta is below their minimum threshold for even continuing the beta for another week.
@Mysticial Some of them are, yeah. OTOH, Theoretical Physics beta closing was more controversial IIRC. There were something like 10 answers, each with at least a half-dozen comments. But you'd have to go grab the data dumps to find it.
