Question to all those of you who manage complete WP sites with composer: How do you handle updates? Especially when it comes to security updates? Just manual? Auto-Update patch versions e.g. with a cron on the server? Some external tool? Some mechanism that at least informs you that manual updates are needed?

Can anybody think of a possible use case for nonces for anonymous visitors?
Just stumbled upon this question:

Q: How to use nonces for frontend AJAX voting if the page gets cached?

FirshI'm building a custom voting solution for my site that would allow public AJAX voting on multiple posts per page. Votes can be added/changed/revoked. Values are stored in custom post meta. I understand that I might need to use nonces but I have a few problems. The page will get cached by W3 Total...

I would always nonce when there's an interaction involved

but in this case, nonces are the least of their worries
people storing counters in post meta makes me want to slap them

Better do what instead?

Yeah, I just wondered about the nonces ;)

@Sven There is no use. That's completely pointless.

@toscho Okay, but what about the linked code snippet?
If there is already a nonce for logged in users one has to skip wp_verify_nonce() for anon users...? Or simply verify both?

just don't use a nonce when everybody is allowed

It appears everything controversial on stack exchange is slowly turning into something I have colleagues for
Trying to remain impartial here is like spinning plates
