What does one use for showing related posts nowadays? I once used YARPP but I remember there was some owner change that I remember as shady.

no, all local. also it's pretty easy to hack up free to get premium features (I made my own template easily)

I would buy premium if I needed to, just not that much going on with it at my own site :)

I'm on multsite so I'd need the premium in any case

no, I mean that if you actually know how to write code then you can do some of the stuff with free (that someone who doesn't know how to write code would need premium for)
