ORDER BY post_title DESC, post_title ASC

you get what you ask for :D

hahaha... you feel the pain of query.php
WP_Query cyclomatic complexity insanity

I have no interest what so ever in LARP. But I do enjoy their stack exchange questions appearing on the sidebar:

Q: How do I make it absolutely clear that I'm shooting you in the face?

EmrakulI play live action roleplaying games (LARPs), where myself and the players around me adopt actual physical characters. I've had a problem in the past where I hold a gun and want to shoot someone, but don't have their attention. Probably trying to shoot them in the back or something. If I shoot ...

@Rarst I wonder if this breaks orderby when filtering for custom tables? shouldn't..

@all - I've got a database of translations, and I want to support plurals. Should each plural form be a separate row, with a plural_form column indicating which form it is. Or should I add 5 columns to support up to 6 plural forms (maximum as far as I'm aware, e.g. Arabic)
The former seems proper, however, the latter is just more convenient (I don't need to group records when I pull them from the database), and I can't imagine languages starting to increase the number of plural forms. And if they did I could just add more columns...

how would you name the additional columns?

@toscho Columns would be just indexed 0-5 (msgstr_0,...) etc.

the first option is easier to extend, and it doesn’t look awkward when there is no singular :)

@toscho no singular?

people
Leute in German, just one common example

10:35 PM
mmm... that's a good point.

another interesting case: sometimes the plural is exactly the same as the singular. option 1 would save the entire row, option 2 would require duplication, right?
on the other hand … most of the translation strings are probably more than one word, so that would justify different entries

11:00 PM
@toscho ... I guess. I don't know how .mo files work when the singular is translated, but plural is not. Does it revert to the singular?

no, it uses the untranslated string

11:11 PM
So, option 1 would require duplicating as well then - a row singular and plural, although the string is the same.

depends on your implementation

@toscho Option 2 would only require one row. But option 1 would always require 2, otherwise how would you distinguish between plural & singular translation being identical from no plural translation provided?

by using the singular as default
oh, wait, misread that
I was assuming that the translations are complete before they are transferred to the live system
