Is there a way to prevent links from being clickable (e.g. links like example.com)?
...of course the backticks are not an option

2:00 AM
@Sven on SE or somwhere else?

@bungeshea I edited this question and thought the link shouldn't be clickable...

I would just use backticks or four-space indentation

But then it would be displayed like a code snippet ;)

2:44 AM
@Sven you can remove the highlighting with <!-- language: lang-none -->

A: What is syntax highlighting and how does it work?

ben is uǝq backwardsWhat is syntax highlighting? Syntax highlighting allows code in posts to be highlighted based on the language it's written in, to make it easier to read. How does it work? Stack Exchange does not have its own syntax highlighting engine. It uses Google Code Prettify. Therefore, any bugs and fea...

yea, but I tried to display the link as text instead of removing the highlighting from code snippets ;)

Thank you so much!

Talked with an SEO Expert someday, he exclaimed:
"I failed to enable GZip Compression to any WordPress site"

I personally failed with the Web resources available... :(

Is that the reality or a myth?

6:17 AM
@BradDalton Just a tip, if you do edits on questions, please keep the tags in mind. I'm referring to this edit. Remove tags from questions that has no relevance to the question. Tags like wordpress.org, wordpress.com

@Sven you can also replace the colon in the protocol with : or any one of the slashes with /

A: How do I write a URL with internal formatting without having it auto-link?

Martijn PietersNest the formatting. http://stackoverflow.com is a bold non-clickable link, formatted as: **`http://stackoverflow.com`** To make it italics as well, simply add underscores or more asterixes: http://stackoverflow.com You cannot use MarkDown for inter-word formatting though. You'll have to swit...

@bungeshea Of course! Such a neat idea! Thank you for helping :)

@MayeenulIslam myth? what is?

10:43 AM
So, you made it. You could do the GZip Compression into your WP site? How?

I failed like him

lol, gzip compression is real! :D

11:07 AM
enabled GZip as per your suggestion with my risk.
http://nishachor.com

Is everything Ok? I can't check. :( Google PageSpeed shows broken site once, and good view on another load. Confused
GPSpd But still suggesting enable compression

@Rarst Thanks a lot
Again you proved you are my teacher. :)
Thanks for listening us

@MayeenulIslam I think the warnings in Page Speed relate to css and js files from other sites. the .htaccess rules only apply to your own site

@bungeshea Right you are
Thanks for pointing that out

Question: When you have a whole WP site stack including build system, vm setup, deployment automation, docs and so on in one repo. The sites dependencies are managed with composer. Then you have a custom theme that is only ever used on this one site. Would you still make the theme a separate repo added as a composer dependency or just put it in the main site stack repo? Clear what I am asking?

works either way really

I think for simplicity I'll just keep anything in the main repo. In case I change my mind nothing keeps me from kicking it out and adding a separate repo to composer. Or did I forget something? Handling multiple repos in one project in PhpStorm isn't really intuitive...

12:58 PM
@kraftner I gave up and used the command line instead
much more powerful, same git interface everywhere I go, faster responses, and in the longrun easier
PHPStorm would hiccup with stupid stuff like freezing on the add changes screen, or everything on the dialog worked except the commit button =s
or stuff like right clicking on my repo to commit but PHPStorm hasnt been explicitly told and tries to add it to the root folders git repo instead, I'd have thought having a .git folder there would make it obvious its a different git repo

anyone know what plugin does this shortcode [wppg_photo_details]
google search brings up tons of sites with it showing no output

VPS recommendations?
I know people talk about uberspace.de

managed or unmanaged

I dont mind managing it myself and setting up stuff
my concerns are price, specs good enough for a super zippy tomjn.com, possibly a second site not much more, and not having it go down or having stupid outages, if it goes down it'll be because i made a stupid mistake

digital ocean , linode, servint are my 3 go to unmanaged

I was looking at digital ocean
the $10 1GB ram 30gb ssd looked nifty
atm I have about 20-30 sites dumped on a dreamhost shared acc

I use d.o. for 4 sites have not had any issues been 1.5 years
has a vagrant capable api as well but havent used it

1:32 PM
what's the droplet thing?
ah found the faq mention of it

+1 uberspace.de (I created an account last week, had a question in the evening, got a response the same night(!) from two people while all uberspace people were on a train to a team meeting. and all of that while I haven't paid nothing yet as I'm still in the trial phase) But probably only good if you speak german.

I want to use this havent had time to mess with it github.com/smdahlen/vagrant-digitalocean
vagrant push to d.o

Q: Permitting Wordpress to accept dates outside of 1902-2038

TAHI'm using Wordpress 3.9.2, MySQL 5.1.73, & PHP 5.3.27 to put together a history-based site. As is well-documented elsewhere (including many questions on StackExchange & WP forums over the years), due to the limitations of PHP, one cannot have posts with dates outside of the minimum and maximum v...

5:13 PM
@G.M. well, you never know. I had a similar idea, but his work looks quite good.
I wonder who gave the only answer an upvote. It is nonsense.

@toscho not me

I neutralized one upvote. :D

To me I would go for a custom meta box to replace core one and use a post meta to store historical dates

post date is used in too many different places, and they are not well documented. rewriting the core is the only sane way.

It depends where you want to use the dates. To be honest publish date is the date when post is published, and I doubt one posts 500 years in past. Historical dates are for me a meta info.

5:21 PM
@G.M. not it

what if I want to republish Marcus Aurelius’ work?

“composer.phar create-project erased my hard drive” https://github.com/composer/composer/issues/1683 Hahahahaahhahahahaa!

$wp_query->query_vars['post_type'] is empty when I am in a date archive for the type post. Fuck you WordPress.

why do I care about genuinely cross-platform PHP code they ask.. :D

@toscho You republish it today. And If you want to schedule the republish in a week? Do you set past date or future one? Setting proper meta data is the way for me. What's the problem? Query? Not, because meta query exists. Display date? Sure not. Requires extra work, but any specific use of WordPress require it.

5:27 PM
automatic date archives, other plugins working date ranges

no, you put it into WordPress today. it was published when it was published

Taking track of the date when you put it into WordPress is not important? I think so. Automatic date archives will not work, custom date archives will.

the take away is that WP didn't give a shit to implement published dates feature with perspective, we have what we have

@G.M. The day I put it into the database is irrelevant. The day the content was written is more important.

Sorry, not agree. People use WordPress to do any kind of things. If I use WordPress for an app with a lot of users, to know who and when do what may be very important. Content date is important too, but the fact it is saved in another place does not compromise anything: if you are using WP to do something WordPress was not designed for you have to expect to write custom code to handle a lot of things.

5:36 PM
The WordPress way. Again.

The way WordPress is used. People use WP to anything: event manager, invoice app, Ecommerce... It's a sane decision? Not to me. But if people are happy with it... let them cry.

Finally a solution to my old question:
1
A: Add a reject reason when the Community user rejects an edit

Shog9Kevin whipped this up a couple of days ago. You can view an example here: These rejections do not count toward edit bans or warnings.

@Rarst @post_status is trolling :D
Bring on the animated SVGs in the plugin install screen http://make.wordpress.org/core/2014/08/21/introducing-plugin-icons-in-the-plugin-installer/
@post_status yeah, not happening. :) I'm monitoring everything and we'll implement blocks if necessary.

@Sven You can animate .png's and it will show in firefox :)
