Q: Define size for `get_post_gallery_images`, they seem to have been resized to 150x150

UzumakiDevI'm using get_post_gallery_images and it's spitting images out as 150x150. It doesn't look like it takes a size parameter, so I assumed it would just spit out the largest image or preferably one of my defined sizes. 150x150 is too small though, is there somewhere I can declare what size gallery i...

@chipbennett Do you really ask us to work on a Bunny Sunday???

12:47 AM
@toscho of course not! Far be it from me to overwork poor little bunnies!

@ChipBennett some short notes: It was me reopening the question. I did not clean it up and/or leave a comment as I (a) just came back from vacation (b) instantly caught a gastric flu and (c) it's Easter days over here. Will clean that up when I get better.

@kaiser the moderating itself isn't a bad thing. There's a useful question and solution buried in there that needs to be brought out.

@kaiser reopening the question gave you the flu?

lol

@kaiser gastric flu? Flu of the bowels?

12:52 AM
@ChipBennett I just compared the question and your duplicate and thought that there's enough difference. the duplicate comment was auto deleted. but as I said: I'll care about it when I get better.

I dont imagine that smells pleasant

or @toscho cares about it :)
@TomJNowell that was what the dictionary told me
puking and all that things
anyway, I'm back to bed.

@kaiser nah, I closed the question, because it was a mess
has anyone seen a free, interactive form builder I can steal?
(and do not say ACF)

I know better than to suggest ninja forms
but sadly its all I can think of, Im not even sure if it's free =s

This is probably going to be extremely broad, but what tips do people have of speeding up wordpress while you're logged in?

obviously just install full page cache... OH WAIT. you are screwed.

Opcache

admin or front?

mmmm opcache

admin

5:06 PM
opcache is like what you start with, not optimization
also don't remind me, I don't have opcache right now

opcache ey? never heard of it

admin is super duper sluggish
opcache, object cache, see if anything is being stupid. after that pretty much only can throw hardware at it

actual PHP version btw (for WP this actually needs to be said)

does this opcache have anything to to do with w3 total cache? or is it not a part of that plugin.

5:08 PM
I dropped all caching plugins on wpkrauts.com after enabling opcache, because there is just no need for further optimization anymore
@UzumakiDev opcache is built-in in php

oh wow
sounds good
I'll take a look
thanks

php.ini settings on wpkrauts.com:
[opcache]
opcache.enable=1
opcache.enable_cli=1
opcache.memory_consumption=64
opcache.interned_strings_buffer=8
opcache.max_accelerated_files=4000
opcache.max_wasted_percentage=5
opcache.use_cwd=1

@toscho what's your page generation time roughly?

6–700ms

damn

5:14 PM
700 is tad too high to go without cache

this is everything, including stylesheets and scripts

I asked page generation, no total

not tested

how long it takes PHP to put page together
install Laps? :)

Currently attempting to optimize a client's site atm... on a GoDaddy IIS server :( . 1.9s server response time, at the moment ;(
God-awful theme loads 33 scripts, 27 stylesheets
It's horrific.

5:16 PM
if it was wonderful you won't be getting paid for it
4

hmmm... fair.

@toscho looks like to be ~200ms looking from outside

0.12084 seconds
fast enough for me

nice :) is it on VPS? I am on shared, since moneys...

shared

5:25 PM
uber-what-it-was?

still no english?

nope. learn German :P

I wonder how they isolate opcode between accounts

php runs in Fast-CGI mode there, I guess this solves that problem too

5:28 PM
suEXEC

so you get workers spawned under your account? never fully groked all that mess with different ways to load php
I remember something about opcode not being shared between workers, but above my server chops to understand

honestly, I have no idea how it works. It just … works, that’s all I have to know

for you. but if it "just worked" for servers opcode wouldn't be exceedingly rare on shared...

it is rare, because most hosters see it as an opportunity to make more money
but on uberspace you pay what you want, so this argument doesn't count

its a money thing I think, it requires a lot more ram and also support

5:31 PM
also sometimes when hosting "just works" it's full of security holes and being run by incompetent idiots :) so a little peace of mind about internals is healthy

I trust these guys. they are real nerds.

good for you then. now if only they learned english... :)
I am not asking for russian here, I am reasonable like that.

that's not the problem, they do speak English fine. But the docs are in German, and you really want to read them

5:50 PM

judge yourself

if i had known @toscho is behind marketpress.com i would've paid more attention to it earlier
@toscho a free conversion optimization tip: please make your "read more" link significantly more visible on the product slider

@lkraav there's a whole team of people behind MarketPress. Frank Bueltge and other reknown people as well.

right right.

so don't blame @toscho alone if something goes wrong :D

GitHub drama, episode 2...

9:00 PM
is there anything more coming?

i noticed him talking about rewriting the multilingual plugin, and that stuck with me. let's just say wpml has enough issues for me that i want to keep on looking.

you know @toschos code. looking at it will only make it stare back.

9:23 PM
@lkraav I am not responsible for that. I know there are issues, we are just not enough people at the moment to fix them all.

you referring to the website or the plugin?

the web site

9:40 PM
aaah. i know why @toscho is so much better than me. he's 6 years older. that gives me time to catch up.

@lkraav You're 5994 years old?

lol. so toscho's launch date on the web site is just to make him appear more human?

@lkraav That's an overflow error I believe...

I have chosen my birth year after my WPSE account number.

alles klar

9:48 PM
I've just spent the last minute refreshing @toscho website so I could see the minute counter go up... I should probably try to aim for at least one of productive, interesting or necessary with my time...

surprisingly many people do that

ha, WordPress multsite lets you mark a site as 'mature'...

10:07 PM
so opcache is enabled now, I broke everything upgrading from php 5.3 to 5.5 but fixed it now. I'm not sure what's happened but my site is blazing now, it's not using anywhere near as much cpu as it was before. I uninstalled Varnish because it was assigned to the same port as apache was when I upgraded. Something has happened anyway and now my site is super fast....
was that completely down to opcache?
or was it just some setting I might have had before that the php upgrade wrote over and fixed and it was all a big coincidence?

php 5.5 is faster than previous versions by default already.

I'm not even going to bother with varnish now then
this is amazeballs
my cpu was hitting 70% sometimes just navigating while i was logged in now it's barely hitting 18%

I don’t understand why anyone is still on 5.4 or worse. not acceptable.

Hosts. Loads and loads of shitacular hosts.

I did not know there was such a big difference.

10:11 PM
well, then move to a better host

Someday sniffle

I'm still amazed

wordpress is actually one of the main reason shared hosts do not upgrade

The WordPress backend on uberspace.de is faster than my local environment. I really want to know why.

10:13 PM
hmmm Im thinking of moving one of my sites there
my main qualm is deciding how much I should pay
its a nice freedom but its a burden in of itself

I pay 5 € for small sites, more for larger ones

is uberspace cloud hosting like aws etc?

no

ah, I kind of like the server maintenance experience of aws and digital ocean or whatever.
I literally got all of my linux experience from using ec2
best thing I ever did

is it nginx or apache?

10:20 PM
your choice

10:53 PM
now there's something you rarely see

@TomJNowell sorry, I was wrong, it looks like you cannot use nginx
