Hey guys hi!

A: Wordpress meta box values display to custom fields

kaiserNormally WP hides meta keys that start with an underscore/_ from the Custom Fields (default/core) MetaBox. Now imagine that you do not want to give the user of your plugin the possibility to alter Post Meta Data through the ugly and user unfriendly Custom Fields meta box. And therefore you buil...

@userabuser Please read that. Went back to it and figured it out after reading Trepmals blog and Justin Tadlocks GitHub issue again.

3:00 AM
@kaiser so your objective is to ensure that a private meta key becomes visible after plugin is deactivated yes?

imho is should be that way, yes

imho f**k the user
3

:D

...but on a serious note, I get where you are coming from now.
Is your problem solved from the other day of course?

The main thing to me was that I couldn't understand why there was this sidestep and what "registering a meta value" helps me (or the fucking user)

3:01 AM
hehe

userabuser... of course, has to fuck the user

cool.. but we understand that now or at least why the stupid "sidestep" occurs

yes. the only piece that's missing for me now is where the "auth_{$meta_type}_meta_{$meta_key}" is running.

@kaiser would I have it any other way? rhetorical

I just see it applied at the end of register_meta()
@userabuser thanks for staring that. I would have done it myself

3:03 AM
Self promotion

already did a cross file search in core, but the 6(!) var holding filter... no idea where that bastard hides
I added the following to the test plugin:
add_filter( 'auth_post_meta_wpsetest', function()
{
	var_dump( func_get_args() );
	return func_get_args()[0];
}, 10, 6 );

im looking at register_meta again

Result:
array (size=1)
  0 => boolean false
In the Custom Fields MetaBox above the fields. No idea what's going on there

wp-includes/capabilities.php:1206

you didnt specify the accepted args on add_filter

3:08 AM
@TomJNowell normally no need for that when you call func_get_args() - when it's a callback
@userabuser how did you find it? search trough all kinds of meta type combinations?
Don't tell me you did a Regex search :)

@kaiser real scientific expert stuff... grep: auth_post
not even grep with regex
just simple string
i called on my years of experience to work that out

hehe
so you on linux or mac?

Windows
like a boss
I have linux on partition...

I need to vagrant ssh for Linux...

boss says he will buy me a mac... i dont know because i spent my life criticizing people on mac

3:11 AM
Anyway, I didn't know that Windows has grep polepalm
@userabuser as long as you can run Linux on it

@kaiser I can and will...

and as long as it got a decent keyboard
@TomJNowell you have a mac, right?

I do

keyboard good on that macbook?

keyboards work well

3:13 AM
@kaiser monumental polepalm... phpStorm: plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7125?pr=phpStorm or you can grep in Sublimetext or, use a simple util like AstroGrep: astrogrep.sourceforge.net

Apple style keyboards use a Sony design

@userabuser Suggest me something more Astro, please.

hehe...

that worked so well, Sony decided to reinvent keyboard keys in their next model, just to be different

Well I use AstroGrep as well as phpStorm console but normally resort to AstroGrep from taskbar, its tiny, super fast and allows regex...

3:14 AM
Ah. Lenovo/IBM does that do. I run out of options these days.

the only frustration is that Apple keyboards differ from country to country and with windows keyboards
US apple keyboards have a different return key, UK apple has the @ symbol on the 2, but Windows UK has it closer to the colon etc etc
otherwise they're pleasant

I have two of the mini apply keyboards, they're nice, a bit small though - good eyecandy, decent to the touch. I don't use them though...
Logitech make an apple-ish style board too
@TomJNowell what config is better you say... UK or US?

I've only ever used the keyboard on the macbook, never bought the separate keyboards
and the only difference I've noted is the return key
UK return keys are tall and thin
US are wide and 1 row high

@userabuser Sounds a bit like my running shoes: I got two of them, good eyecandy, decent to the touch. I don't use them tough.

it mostly annoys US colleagues
otherwise I'm happy with UK and don't deviate from it much

3:18 AM
haha
@TomJNowell Queens English all the way!

if you see an american typing sentences and finishing them with \
they're typing on a UK keyboard and trying to press return

hehe
just look for all the Z Z Z Z Z

all i'll say is if you're getting a Mac, get a macbook pro

that's what i got my eye on... the pro... a mate uses them at his work, so if im going to get one through company it has to be a pro i guess why bother otherwise?

Y has a samsung series 9. Brilliant performance for the bucks, nice looking, seriously lightweight but the keyboard... key press height is too low and you get zero feedback. And for some design reason all the keys are the same size and have the same spacing. I simply can't type on that thing.

3:20 AM
the 13" pro has a smaller footprint than the air but more power ( it's thicker but sit it on an air and the air sticks out around the edges )

SSD?

standard

SeriousStandards-Disk

the only Apple machine you can buy with a hard drive these days are the iMacs
and those are hybrids

Hybrid sucks

3:21 AM
not if your OS fits into the SSD cache!

My Lenovo is Hybrid. I'm sure it's not only the fault of Win7
Win7 doesn't have 25Gb, but the SSD has.

anyway it's 3:22am here
I need sleep
last thing
if you get the 15"
which seems huge

np. Have a well sleep.

but if you do, one of the intel cpus has a 128MB EDRAM L4 cache that doubles up as dedicated GPU memory, it's worth having
also iminent broadwell cpus
hmm not so iminent =/

haha..
i will get 15"... 13" is way to small for me
my notebood is a 17" (MSI) even that sucks for size
thanks for the tip
@kaiser you have one of those hybrid drives are you saying?

3:27 AM
eurgh how can you use a 17"..

No. It got two drives. One 500GB HD and a 25GB SSD

it came with a manual
2

@TomJNowell bigger is better, some say.
@userabuser hehe

@TomJNowell put it this way, when I use it... I either use it as a desktop replacement OR to watch movies on it... thats about it haha.
In office here I have my preferred setup, 3x 24" monitors and two rigs, that's all I need

but conferences, coffee shops, contributor days, etc etc

3:29 AM
I guess its something I need to get used to, working on a 15"... I feel less productive.
@TomJNowell yeah for that you are absolutely right perhaps... a 15" is enough.

I sidestep that completely with spaces

Is that native to OSX?
or an additional util

technically my workspace is 6400px wide
spaces is standard OS X
swipe 3 fingers left or right to move to an adjacent desktop or fullscreen app

yeah but you can't see it all at once as such... mine is just shy of 6k and I can see it all

or ctrl+arrow key

3:31 AM
oh well that sounds pretty nice

and swipe 3 up to see them all and any open windows

work flow is super important as you know...
so are you on 15" or 13"?

yeah I have terminal and PHPstorm etc arranged to match workflow
13"

@kaiser are you running the OS of the normal HD?

I've a 27" 1080p display but I never bothered hooking it up after I last moved

3:33 AM
@TomJNowell wow impressive... 13" is like extreme for me
oh my!!!!
that would have been the first thing I hooked up

and nope, Macbook Pros have integrated PCI-E SSD, have done for years now

before the fridge even

retina panels change how you work with display real estate too
you don't think of screen resolutions quite the same

hm I know nothing about that to be honest
is that so?

well a pixel is a logical pixel not a hardware pixel now

3:35 AM
@userabuser yes, off of the normal HD. I will switch that when I install Linux. But there should be some default handling of OS caching by Lenovo. Never figured out if that is actually working.

you can make it 1:1 non-retina but it looks silly

@TomJNowell i could imagine
@kaiser wouldn't trust Lenevo to look after a rock.... let alone caching the OS. Definitely OS on SSD is best thing you can do...
Anyone subscribed to PHP Architect?

Yeah, well. The SSD came broken. Took Lenovo one month to figure that out - after I had a half year of crash-randomly fun. They sent their tech guy 3 times. The only piece original now is the display.

wow

that's what I said when they told me that the first thing they do is that they exchange the motherboard without any further checking
ah and they had to send it from China to Germany to send it over to Lenovo Austria who then sent it to a 3rd party repair service who then came and wasted three hours to change things - he was a Sony tech guy
that was the first time I met this guy. In total we spent ~9 hours together.

3:40 AM
you're practically best friends now

and their "in three days; at your place"-service means that they call you back in three days. then it will take as long as it takes

ha really? haha
what a scam

yes. seriously.
and no replacement laptop in the meantime

just the middle finger

putting it where the sun doesn't shine

3:41 AM
assholes

I will ban you if you use such rude words again. Joking. Faved it.
Guess we should put 18+ in the room description.

donkeyholes
better?

muchos

haha

Ok, about the auth_callback: It seems to not do anything else. And it doesn't work on any user stuff.

3:43 AM
Off topic, have you seen: Stromberg - Der Film ?

And it's only used to setup map_meta_cap... ok?
@userabuser The German office comedy crew?

yeah

No.

the movie
k

I don't like German comedy - in general.
Toschos hamster stories are an exception. And Otto Walkes.

3:45 AM
haha
well I was looking for something good to watch other night in European context, that is all I could find unless you have some good Austrian movie?

Let me look something up on YouTube.

@kaiser i dont really understand this... it seems to do exactly what is described

Me neither. Looks like a half done API part that people lost interest in. Like mostly every API in core.

THat is a suitable explanation for the concept of WP as a whole...

Subtitles are in French... sorry - and I haven't seen the movie myself
Friend said it's a good and fun watch

3:49 AM
looks good... what is it about?
i can prob get english subs

I don't know :D

lol
sold!

In general: Stay away from Ulrich Seidl movies (not the documentaries) and from Michael Haneke (not only movies).

the title got me anyway
no good?

No
Ah, now I got it... read the description
Little Background: There was a German brewing company who rented an office in a village in Upper Austria. And that village is named Fucking
And the wanted to brew a beer (in Germany) and name it Fucking Hell (hell = light color)
That made that village kinda famous.

3:52 AM
haha killer
I got get this

And Bad is not bad as in English. It's the prefix we have for villages that are used as place for curing. With bathes. So Bad = Bath

curing? as in curing meat?
learning about your language here :D

When you get older (iirc it's 60y for men and 55 for women), the state health insurance sends you to Cure every two years for 3-4 weeks.

wtf
????

You have to live in Bad Sauerbrunn, Bad XY, etc. and eat diet food, make sport, have sessions for swimming, etc. Welcome to post-socialist Austria

3:54 AM
is this a joke man haha what the hell

You are expected to loose weight, have to meet a doctor, etc. Completely serious. :)

wow
that is a film all in itself

hehe - it is

like a typical twisted dark european comedy drama
that has Hundstage feel all over it

there are special words like cure shadow. that's someone who was send alone to the cure place and meets someone else who is alone there and then they etc.
Ah and the movie is about all those people who live in Bad Fucking and who all have their dirty secrets.

3:56 AM
play chess?

At the same level of trickyness, but no.

checkmate!
Austria is awesome.

Btw, if Georg Friedrich is one of the actors, then it's usually a very dark movie that will get you.
Even if it's funny in parts.

I like the dark... so this should be good fit for me.
You have to go European to get that quality of movie

We all watch American and British Movies :)
You will like that one

4:01 AM
haha @ 1:00 mark
good thank you mate another one to watch

And you will LOVE that one: (parts in English. Well, what we call English)

so far your recommendations have been good... i think you recommended me in China they Eat Dogs ya?

yessss - one of the best movies ever :)

love that movie man... I am big Kim Bodina fan
@kaiser this looks good already too... you're on fire

Na, just going through the Wikipedia list from top to bottom and looking up what I know and like

4:03 AM
@kaiser haha... is this like a Fear and Loathing?

pretty much. but in Slovakia/Bratislava and the main actor plays a sausage box guy
you should look up the places on Google Maps before watching the movie
Bratislava is ~1h away from Vienna and for Austrians it's cheap alkohol, messed up drugs and whores.

i will...
red light district?

Not really.
It's more like an illegal red light district.

ha
what is the Horst & Toni movie called exactly is it that or DIE UNABSICHTLICHE ENTFÜHRUNG DER FRAU ELFRIEDE?

Like in Vienna you have dedicated places where those girls can work legally with medic checks and everything. But they are that far out that they get back into the city to find clients and ignore the risk of paying or getting into jail and finally out of country
@userabuser yes, but you are missing "OTT" at the end

4:07 AM
oh! I thought that was OST for a second... official sound track haha

Translated it's "the unintentional kidnapping of Miss Elfriede Ott"

thanks (writing this down)
dont think that will be in my local city

ah not fictional character then

No, but the story for sure ;)
Ah, maybe you can get your hands on "Bockerer". It has 4 parts and is pretty much a realistic drama/comedy that gives a lot of insights into the 2nd worldwar
It's about the Nationalsocialsts. Part here:

4:12 AM
good?

Very good
That's maybe the most important Austrian movie

I can get but no sub titltes damn... need to hunt for that

And possibly the best actor aside from Klaus Maria Brandauer

that one might be in the city when I go next week actually
if its a big movie for your country maybe a chance

I'm pretty sure this is the one that you find subtitles most easily.
Just watch the trailer. The language isn't that important. It's about handling the flag :)
Ok, I just watched it without sound. It's not that funny if you don't understand anything :P
Well, I'm off for tonight

4:15 AM
cya mate and thanks
