Q: Who wrote Hogwarts: a History?

dean1957Is there any information in the seven books as to who wrote the book? I know Bathilda Bagshot wrote the History of Magic, did she also write Hogwarts: A History also? I know what is in the Harry Potter Wiki, but that is not considered canon to a lot of people.

Ok I've come to term with these we don't know answers. After a very long and heated discussion which led to a very controversial question being reposted.

Q: Why don't wizards rob muggle banks to become rich?

Christie RomanowskiFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie showed that any wizard with little skill could rob a muggle bank. Newt Scamander used kid-level spells to infiltrate a muggle bank vault successfully. He used Stupefy and Alohomora to stun a security guy and unlock a highly secure vault, respectively....

This has just come through, so if questions about whether things are possible or not are not POB because we don't know all the canon, are question where they're asking why characters didn't do certain things they've never been shown to do POB or is that also left-open because "we can't know all the canon"?

Q: Is Eddings a fan of the Hitchhiker Series?

NarusanIn the Entchanters’ End Game, the last book of the Belgariad series, the following exchange between Belgarath the sorcerer and Silk takes place, when they discuss how the Sword has been hidden: “It’s still there,” Silk noted, sounding a bit disappointed. “I can still see the sword.” “That’s...

Q: Why does the Valyrian Steel Oathkeeper use Dunk's Coat of Arms?

TheLethalCarrotThe Valyrian Steel Oathkeeper is pretty accurate and even uses red Damascus steel to make it look more effective. However, for some reason it appears to use a depiction of Dunk's coat of arms, a green shooting star above an elm tree proper on sunset: As far as I know Oathkeeper was made for...

Q: How does Love Potion know for whom the victim should fall?

Christie RomanowskiPolyjuice Potion recognizes the victim (whose identity is compromised) by using his/her hair or something. In case of Love Potion, victims actually eat or drink the Love Potion, but how does Love Potion know who the attacker (for whom the victim fall) is? When Love Potion is brewed, it certainl...

Q: Are Pokémons as intelligent as humans?

Christie RomanowskiAlthough Pokémons are depicted as real world animals with huge diversity, I get confused sometimes when I see their intelligence level. Pokémons understand and obey their masters' commands precisely all the time (with exception of few like Victreebel). It doesn't look like a pet following its m...

Q: About reincarnation "forever and a day" blue cover

Brianna VollrathOk so I'm looking for a romance novel I read probably 15 years ago - all I remember was reincarnation was a theme - I think the male lead was having dreams or had lost memories about the female lead - I think the cover was blue and was in cursive and hard to read - forever and a day was what I re...

Q: Was Michael Burnham adopted by Sarek and Amanda, or was she merely his ward?

GodrycThere is some discussion on the difference between the terms "ward" and "adopted". Was Michael adopted - which would make her Spock's legitimate sibling - or was she Sarek's ward, making him more of a guardian rather than a father figure?

If people want to VTD this question that'll end the whole meta debate about the answer on it.
The question isn't worth keeping around IMO.

Q: Identify an online time travel story about sacrifices and time travel, posted by two people named 'Oz' and 'Lyss'

Locutus of BorgI'm trying to identify a story I read, which was being written and published on a site where the author gets pain the more visits they get. The story was written by two people going by 'Oz' and 'Lyss', shipped as 'Lyzzy' and posted with that name too IIRC. I read the beginning - as that's what w...

@Mithrandir What about all the legitimate answers?
I disagree with that opinion. Also the meta debate has extended past the Q&A at this point

Q: What anagram of Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was being referred to by this alleged JKR?

Mithrandir@JackBNimble managed to pull up an answer to What were J. K. Rowling's “theories” about book seven? that, while I'm skeptical, seems at least slightly plausible. This alleged JKR posted this line at some point: ([Name Edited]) Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore now THAT is a HUGE anagra...

Q: Why didn't Psi Corps repeat their experimental efforts to create another Jason Ironheart who is arguably as powerful as a Vorlon?

user486818The Psi Corps successfully created a being as powerful as a Vorlon in Jason Ironheart. While the research staff who successfully did it was killed, it should not be too difficult to re-create what was successfully created before. If it has been done before, it should not be difficult to do it aga...

@Edlothiad I'm pretty sure that they won't lose reputation if they're older than 3 months.
And the whole point of delete votes is to delete questions that won't be automatically deleted by the roomba because of votes/answers.

Q: A space story about a desert planet and a cup of water

jo1stormI read this story over 15 years ago. It is probably a lot older. I read it in Serbian magazine but I think that the language of the original is in English. It's a short story, less than two A4 formats long. The story as I remember it is as follows. A young man/boy (crash)lands on a desert plan...

How many does it take 3+ votes%10?

It can take up to 5 votes IIRC.
Depending on how many votes it has, but I don't remember the formula.

Q: Can you create more Polyjuice Potion using hair/clippings from your own transformed self?

Zip Zap JIf you were to take Polyjuice, then clip hair from yourself (essentially the hair of the person you transformed into), could you create more Polyjuice to transform into that person using that hair?

According to the tools page it'll take one more delete vote from a 10ker.

@Mithrandir Which one?

Thank you for the delete vote :D

Q: Why were these flags on an answer that gave the original source (non-comic) of a quote on a question that wanted the comic source declined?

MithrandirI (and a few other people) flagged this answer as Not An Answer. Q: how does superman have x-ray vision

MaslinWe all know that in order for us to see, light has to be reflected off of the object we're looking at, then passed to our eyes. X-rays, which is the same light just on a higher spectrum, also works the same way. That said, if superman were to have x-ray vision it would require an external source ...

@amflare I agree, the other question doesn't answer this one clearly enough for a duplicate closure.
Unfortunately I'd need another 111 answers for a hammer so no reverse hammer.
(ridiculous that I have way past the required score for a gold but need so many more answers)

HP is a weird tag. I almost have enough score for silver but am still several questions short of bronze.

It's the HNQ's fault ;)
Although really, it's kinda that way for all tag badges on SFF.

Q: How and why does this character die?

NarusanThis is the scene in the Belgariad Saga where Durnik dies: [Zedar talking to Polgara]: Save yourself that agony. In the end, you’ll go to him anyway. You’ll go willingly - even eagerly.” There was a sudden scraping in the room beyond the iron door, and a quick rush of feet. “Durnik!” Aunt...

Q: What chapters does the fourth volume of Jason Shiga's Demon cover?

FuzzyBootsI was recently introduced to Jason Shiga's Demon, a webcomic that he has since released in paper form, apparently in four volumes. Q: Why couldn't Moody beat Crouch's Imperius?

alexgbelovIn the Goblet of Fire, we see that it is possible to train yourself to resist the Imperius curse. How is it that Harry, a 14 year old boy, was able to resist Barty Crouch Jr after about an hour, but Moody, the paranoid, experienced, always prepared Auror was trapped for a whole year?

Q: Is it known if the Scimitar can charge and/or fire its thalaron weapon while cloaked?

EllesedilThe Remus Warbird Scimitar had what is commonly referred to as a "perfect" cloaking device which is one that allows the vessel to fire weapons while cloaked. It also had an additional unique armament in the thalaron radiation weapon, which required a not-insignificant amount of time and ship reco...
