@blackbird I don't think he is going anywhere yet, but if you suggest some place is safe, he'll want to go somewhere else.

Why is this question on the front page now? It says it was modified by the Community user, but I can't see how it was modified? travel.stackexchange.com/q/73496/41775

It just says bumped doesn't it ? Bump is not a modification really

@JohanGronberg No, it says "Modified by Community"

Ok, must have missread I guess
cause the "Community user" does sometimes bump inactive questions if I remember correctly from meta. Which causes them to go to the front page.

@JohanGronberg Wow, really? Have never seen that.

meta.stackexchange.com/questions/48578/… . 5th bullet point in the answer

6:16 PM
It is a really random thing and often not wanted for questions that should be forgotten, but it also brings up gems that lay forgotten.

Wow, that's cool.
Is this why this question was bumped?
@JohanGronberg Actually, yeah, it says it was bumped by the community user travel.stackexchange.com/posts/73496/revisions

Very likely and as I do not see any reason, I would think Comunity has bumbed randomly.
It is a Q I would rather see forgotten, but that is my personal feeling.

@Willeke Why?

Israel, west bank, controversial.
As I said, it is personal feeling and I would not act upon.

I feel like it will just be burried again. It is a very very specific Q it feels improbable someone will give a good answer this time

6:26 PM
@Willeke Yes, it's very controversial. I'm very happy that I live in a peaceful place and not such a conflict area.

Not all Israel questions are controversial as such, but it is often very easy to make them that by one wrong answer or comment.

It did prompt me to flag the one answer as not an answer

Hi, still away from home?

@Berwyn Because it's short and has a negative score?

I did notice that.
It does not answer the question.

6:28 PM
Because it answers a different question?
Oh sorry. wrong question
I was thinking of another bumped by community one and didn't follow the link

I think you are at the right Q, the one where the Q is about the bridge and the answer about the Israeli passport.

ok

er, never mind. that is the one

Yeah, but how would the system know if it's right or not?

The answer is about an expired passport
what has that got to do with anything?

6:30 PM
I mean, unless SE has brought in Agent Smith or something
I mean, only humans can determine whether an answer is correct or not

@Fiksdal The system didn't know anything. I flagged it as not an answer

Ah, ok
What I meant was, you said "It did prompt me to flag the one answer as not an answer"

Right. The community user bumped it for some random reason

The random bumb is really random, as far as I understand. It might have 'max activity' limits, but quality is not involved.

which made me notice it

6:32 PM
So when I said "Because it's short and has a negative score" I meant that this is why you were prompted to flag it
The Community user will bump non-negatively scored questions that have at least one answer scoring 0 and none scoring more than that.
Questions are picked randomly from the top-viewed inactive questions.
The number of unanswered questions bumped per hour depends on the site: 4 per hour on Stack Overflow, 1 per hour on Meta, and 2 per hour on Super User and Server Fault. The default for a new site is 1 per hour.

Might be we get fewer as we have very few unanswered and negative points answered Q.
I do not remember seeing as many as one per day, but I do not open all Q.
I flagged Raj's answer to the Schengen visa/expired passport Q, I feel it is not enough of an answer to stand.
Q is one vote from being closed.

Q: When the Community user bumps questions, could it say "bumped" rather than "modified"?

FiksdalI just noticed this I opened the question to see what the modification was. But I saw that neither the question nor the answer had been modified recently. I was about to post on meta to find out what had happened, but I checked the revision history instead. There, I noticed that it said "Bumpe...

@Fiksdal +1 on that meta post, I had thought about that a while ago as well. (But did nothing about it.)

@Willeke Yeah, one of the problem with Raj's answer is that the question itself is way confusing.

7:13 PM
As far as I always heard, your Schengen Visa can not be valid longer than your passport. But I do not know what happens when you renew/replace your passport before the end of the Schengen visa and I am not good in legal language.
On top of that I am tired and will not do a good job hunting for information.

@Willeke the policy was that the valid visa must be in a valid passport, but the court decided some time ago that the code does not require this. Accordingly, the valid visa can be in an expired or cancelled passport. I believe that you are correct that the visa cannot be issued with validity extending beyond that of the passport.

@phoog, thanks. Would you be able to write a proper answer to the question? I do not trust the current one and have written as much in a comment.

Which question is that?

Q: Can I travel to Germany with my old passport that has a valid Schengen visa

EOMI'm an Indian National and have a valid Schengen visa issued from Switzerland - valid up to 23/08/2016. Recently I got a new passport as my old passport ran out of pages. I did not answer because the dates posted in the question are actually in the past
So either the dates are wrong or the OP is confused about something else.

7:22 PM
True but Raj did answer it, with a poor quality A as well.

OP has not returned to the site since asking the question.
@Willeke the answer is poor quality but basically correct.
I would look for the citation, but I am worried for example that the OP believes that the month 8 is October.

Or goes by some other calendar which has different month numbers to the one we use.

7:35 PM
@Willeke that's also possible. I've found the citation and I will post an answer.

Thanks

7:52 PM
@Willeke done. Comments welcome.

A: Can I travel to Germany with my old passport that has a valid Schengen visa

phoogFirst, to address a problem in your question, you posted it on 26 August, 2016, and you say you are asking about a valid Schengen visa, but you say that the visa's expiration date is 23 August 2016. That, of course, means that the visa is no longer valid, so your question is based on a false pre...

+1, no comments needed.

LOL, the "No comment needed" on "reccomend deletion" has never been more appropriate :) travel.stackexchange.com/a/77568/41775

8:39 PM
@Fiksdal, are you happy with the answer of the duplicate/original question about the bumb? I find it not that clear and unsatisfying.

@Willeke Not sure what you're talking about, could you give a link?

A: Please do not "lie" that the Community user "modified" the question

Shog9 However, It did not really modify the question, It rather just visited it. It didn't do that either. Community is not a real person; it can't "visit" anything. It chose it semi-randomly from a list, and set the LastActivityDate on it to the current time in order to make it appear on the act...

@Willeke No, surely I'm not happy with that.

thanks, that is what I feel myself.

And I can't check the votes, because I have less than 1000 rep there, but I'm guessing that the answer from the Shog9 has plenty of downvotes.
I passionately downvoted his answer :)
Anyway, basically they are saying that they're not going to implement it. That's why the question has been tagged with "status-declined". So it's basically a lost cause.

8:43 PM
Not enough votes there either (for me.)
If they do not want to make more markers (as he implies) they should change the 'modified' into something that covers more. But that would make sense.
On Bicycles SE they do not even have 'answered' those go under 'modified' as well, very confusing at first.
Spam waiting for enough flags.

@Willeke What do you mean "not enough votes there"?

Should have been 'rep', I am tired.
And fumbly fingered, I noticed.

Yeah. LOL, I wanna get 1000 rep everywhere just to see the votes. Currently working on Worldbuilding, Ask Ubuntu, Meta and ELL.
That spam answer gets downvoted fast :)
@Willeke I just checked Bicycles SE, they do have answered, modified, asked, etc. there now :)

Maybe my memory is fumbly as well.
See you around next time.

Maybe it used to be like that, but they have fixed it now.
You leaving?

8:57 PM
Yes, bedtime.

Alright, good night :)
