@chx I think it's fine, but don't believe that booking.com is going to net the answer.
There is an agent in Montenegro that does high end residential short-term lettings. Something like that would be more fruitful imho.

@Willeke I am going to attempt a Carricks Bend to join 7 strand 5mm to 5 strand 3mm. I don't even know if it will work, but I have reached the level where I can get a Carricks Bend without following the video.
Just fyi, I use it for equal sizes but have never tried unequal sizes
Wish me luck!

@GayotFow kinda obviously booking.com is not the answer but note "and its kind" -- there's not really an accomodation search engine which has a checkbox for "terrace on the beach"
@MarkMayo airbnb ... maybe.

2:59 AM
@chx The net is not the best place for that type of research, imho, it's more of a hands-on face to face project. And we're talking some serious coinage also.

chx
well that's why they are looking at these countries -- cheaper than say Italy
but i agree

3:15 AM
And for a holiday of 15 people... That would require one of them to make an advance reconnoiter and put eyeballs on it.

chx
3:26 AM
Absolutely agree: imagine the chaos if the place is not right and you need to switch!
I am mostly traveling alone so I have no problems, when I started travelling the world I walked from a really dreadful place in SF after the first night but today I would walk the moment I stepped into the room....
but that's very easy when you are alone

So if they cannot send someone on a 'rec' to put eyeballs on, then 15 people are facing a big time risk.
Do you read the magazine "Elite Traveller" in the true hard copy mode?

chx
3:44 AM
No...?

It's a good resource. And they had a special on Montenegro.

chx
I am definitely not an Elite Traveller
When I worked (relatively briefly) for a very large corporation and they were working with Carlson Wagonlit and so I was queried on my hotel preferences I answered "I prefer clean, quiet rooms with a bed, my own bathroom and a roof."
Sometimes this leads to really odd situations, I was in a small hotel in Dublin where they needed to fix the door because it wasn't closing and I was like "I must be the first to fly from the West Coast on business in this hotel" but I rather spend money (or if I can't catch a good sale, points) on a lie flat bed in the plane than a fancy hotel. I do not even understand what's the value in paying for a fancy hotel.
OTOH i bet a lot of people wouldn't understand my obsession with being able to sleep on the plane.

OK I reopened that Schengen visa fund question...
because I think I found a better duplicate!
But I can't close it myself anymore
Can someone else look at it?
And the potential duplicate is travel.stackexchange.com/questions/44577/…
There is a slight difference in that one poster is asking before even applying, the other one only did after getting rejected... but they have the same issue, how much money is needed when applying for a German short-stay visa from India.

8:28 AM
@Relaxed I think you can still flag it as a dupe so it goes to teh queue
The Balloon question amused me

mts
@Relaxed done
Do we have a canonical for Questions about using a visa shortly before it expires? I've seen two of this kind just this morning, e.g. travel.stackexchange.com/questions/68112/…

8:43 AM
isn't this a dupe?

Q: Which websites allow "search by country" for a flight?

AhmedWasI came to know about Whichbudget, it's a website that allow search for flights by country. I mean you just enter from like "Germany" and to like "Belgium" and you get best offers from all airports between the two countries. That is great. And I was able to arrange a good-price trip to Brussels. ...

@MarkMayo u think it is time for a guess competition "when will we hit 20k questions" ?

mts
@HeidelBerGensis what would be the dupe? Certainly not the broad search for flights canonical, this guy is looking for something similar to whichbudget or whichairline but working for turkey. I voted to leave open.

@mts ok..
i thought he is looking for the "broad part"..
and that other question is about that..

mts
also he does go through the trouble to explain why it's not a dupe which is very rare especially given he's a new user. We should give him a +1 ;)

9:05 AM
@mts true, i didnt see that update

@Relaxed Should we do a proof-of-funds question for Schengen visas too? Something like @GayotFow's UK visa QA.

mts
@HeidelBerGensis +1 on your A, however I'm afraid I found another Q that might be a dupe, I didn't flag as such though as I'm not sure and I should be doing other stuff right now.

9:42 AM
@CMaster No, the option is disabled
I already closed it and reopened it, can't vote again
Oh, you mean use a flag instead of a vote?

@Relaxed Yes

@CMaster That option is not available anymore, but maybe that's only because there is already a vote underway?

10:18 AM
We're now at a constant 200+ unanswered, with 100+ extremely difficult questions :(

10:47 AM
@HeidelBerGensis yeah, can you run it? I'm very likely AWOL for 2.5 weeks in June and won't be able to monitor much
@JonathanReez wait until June, I reckon we might halve it ;) Ususally every 3 bounties I add, 1-2 get answered, on old questions
speaking of which, here's another bounty:

Q: How are combined dimensions calculated for checked baggage on Ryanair?

dbaschThe Ryanair website makes little sense regarding combined dimensions for checked baggage. For health and safety reasons Ryanair does not accept for carriage any individual item exceeding 32 kilos or with combined dimensions of more than 81cms (height), 119cms (width) and 119cms (depth). ...

3 hours later…
I'd say OT. The question is about phone security more than travelling.
@CMaster I'm asking the guys at Security here: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/151/the-dmz

2:43 PM
I'm pretty sure it is OT for Security, seen questions like that there before
And I think the answer may be "use a VPN"
but that part I'm a lot less sure about
hmm
Anyone know what visa you'd need for say, playing a concert in the US?

@CMaster ESTA should cover it.

@joeblow err, saw your comment, then answer went "foom"
@joeblow this is a good summary of what counts as acceptable "business" travel to the US travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/…
@JoErNanO It's not mentioned in that flyer I just linked, and it's (possibly) paid work
lookes like its an "O" or "P" type visa

2:58 PM
IMHO it'll depend on who pays for the performer. And from where.

3:40 PM
if OT is off-topic, then on-topic is OT as well?

it's not like it is going to show * Some Text Missing *

A: Author visiting the USA for vacation under the Visa Waiver Program - Can they write?

Heidel Ber GensisTo travel under VWP, travel purpose must be permitted on a visitor (B) visa, as mentioned as the first point in the Visa Waiver Program page. This means, your ESTA is basically a simplified B1/B2 visa, same rules apply, the difference is the process only. Now, checking the rules for both B1 and...

I hope it's a correct answer.. I do not know why everyone seems confused, ESTA is basically a B visa..

@HeidelBerGensis it's about what I'd guess at

4:54 PM
the US confuses things by claiming that VWP is not a visa
and adding ESTA into the mix
Canada now copied the whole silly ESTA concept as well
hopefully Schenge/UK won't follow

5:39 PM
There are some differences between VWP and a B visa. It's possible to apply to extend your stay with a B visa and not on the VWP. I think there are also some differences related to your legal rights if they want to boot you out

6:04 PM
@CMaster @RoryAlsop on DMZ said the question should be OK for security. Want to flag it for migration?

Done, although you could have done it just as well

@JoErNanO I always thought that counted as paid work - it's what we have always been told when discussing a potential US tour
@CMaster should be a good one - there are various security aspects.

@RoryAlsop Certainly a quick google found a few sites advising bands to get the O or P visas
although with a few noting that it's possible to do a small-venues tour on the VWP
but if you get caught, expect to not perform in the US for 10 years

ahhhh - hadn't seen that distinction. Admittedly we would be small venue tours :-)
@CMaster oh - you mean it is not allowed but you could possibly get away with it
yeah - not going to risk that

yeah

6:11 PM
CBP is also likely to start asking questions if you all show up together with instruments looking like a band

Yes, well the suggestion if you wanted to do that
was to buy/rent instruments on landing
saves on expensive luggage fees too

@CMaster mate of mine sort of did that - arrived in Buenos Aires with his band to find the instruments had not arrived. So the rented/borrowed everything :-/

Always a fun experience

7:13 PM
A MUST watch video: Why Flying is So Expensive

8:08 PM
@RoryAlsop Who is we?

9:58 PM
Re VWP and B visas, isn't there something about adjustment of status? If you marry I know you can adjust from B but can you adjust from VWP?
oh wow soundimmigration.com/… you can.

1 hour later…
11:01 PM
@RoryAlsop Rock on!
@chx Are you allowed to marry on vwp?

11:13 PM
Have you see this proposal over at the WorkPlace.SE

Q: Should we make country tags visually distinct?

LilienthalCountry tags have a bit of a history on this site but the general consensus seems to be that they serve a useful purpose. Unfortunately, even when they are added to a question, they often end up ignored because many people don't check the tags before answering or commenting. I thought that exper...

Seems like a good idea for a number of sites.
