@Ben COM use GUIDs for interface identification.

GUIDs is not a demand, it's just another tool.

They may demand GUIDs though.

@RollingFeles yes. I believe they use them exclusively for this purpose - when loading them into the program you need the appropriate GUID. But again, this isn't restricted to COM.

So it's down to whether or not they specifically only support COM or not
