@Tensibai Are you in.

6 hours later…
5:45 AM
The site came out real quick.

5:59 AM
I have never seen a SE site come out this fast.

2 hours later…
8:00 AM
You didn't sleep much @HenryWHHackv2.0 roughly 5 hours
:)

The problem with starting this fast is that the on-topic questions are not clearly discussed
@zx8754 I am not sure. I don't think it is too broad, but maybe it could be narrowed to differences in X depth of annotation, % of genes/genome annotated

hi.
what is your opinion about technical questions?
i.e. how to convert these ids to those ones? how to run this bioinformatic software for multiple entries? etc

That would be pretty much specific
to convert ids from A to B is one of the main troubles in Bioinformatics
If we can't answer that type of questions, I don't know what are we doing here
About running bioinformatic software, it could also fit stackOverflow (if there is a bug/problem), unless it requires domain knowledge of the tool or problem I wouldn't post it here
@IakovDavydov But I am not a mod of the site, we decide how and want we want on the site

8:30 AM
imho, unlike "which software is better", questions like "how to retrive/convert ids" are not opinion based and can have a good solution.
but I'm not sure how it is compatible with "not asking novice questions".
also, these questions can attract newcomers. but I don't know if that's such a good idea :)

8:43 AM
Well at the moment we should avoid asking them, but once the public beta is reached or later on when graduated we could actively ask those type of questions
Now, we can only post people who committed, so there is no point in making questions for newcomers

@IakovDavydov id conversion post would be on topic, and most probably will quickly become faq tagged.
@IakovDavydov at the beginning most of the questions (which are on topic) will be basic, and I think it is norm. Basic questions with quality answers will become a good dupe targets for future similar posts. Eventually question quality will go up.

11:14 AM
@IakovDavydov I think novice questions are going to be the norm here (and I think that's ok), especially if our arguments against other platforms like Biostars are the lack of quality answers. I don't think there are many problems with novice questions if we serve as a good place for excellent answers to those (well worded) questions.
I wonder what proportion of those who committed will actually register

@Llopis I see that you are adding comments like "did you read the manual, did you visit bioconductor".
1. First of all, in both cases I give the question & the answer.
2. I think these kind of question do not have an easy googlable detailed answer.
3. If you look at stackoverflow, most popular questions are quite simple to solve, nevertheless they are a source of traffic and have excellent answers you cannot find anywhere else.
4. Other people (see above) seem to agree that it is good to have those type of questions which will end up in faq.

@IakovDavydov This is quite common for stack exchange websites. Good questions (from my experience of Stack Overflow) give more background information on what may have been tried so far (and a good description of precisely what the problem is). I guess the bioinformatics SE's goal is not necessarily to become an FAQ site for the sake of it, but to address questions that have not been satisfactorily answered elsewhere.

:37456913
1. I realized a bit late
2. It might be, but that doesn't qualify for being here
3. Yes but they were asked time after the creation of the site
4. I have the same tools as the other people of the site to influence if they end up in the FAQ or not.
5. Before editing it I ask the owner of the post. I am creating a "toxic" environment precisely because otherwise the quality of the site will be low and it will not reach the graduation.
6. Sorry if I offended you, I'll try to be more nice and careful

Let's be nice. Please do not take downvote/comment etc, as a personal attack, try to take the information only then act.

12:20 PM
Learned from devops.se, don't anticipate problems, wait for them and handle them when they are a problem.
And don't bother about is it on topic elsewhere, the only question is "is it a good fit for this site ?" without any other consideration.
And for too broad, etc. try to keep in mind why it is a problem on SO, that doesn't mean it will be a problem here also, leave some time for answer to pile up before judging too broad, it may not get that much answers (more than 7 answers should trigger inspection IMHO, less it's perfectly ok)

12:55 PM
I have returned
@Tensibai Well
@Tensibai Are you in?

@HenryWHHackv2.0 Just out of a phone conference

Ok
Is this site doomed?

Q: Where is the review button?

Henry WH Hack v2.0When I signed up for the site and look up in the part were the review button was suppose to be it wasn't there as indicated by this screen shot here. This seems kind of weird considering the fact that I signed up for a few private beta site before and there is all ways a review button as soon ...

@Tensibai I had to ask didn't I.^

Nothing to review?

@Tensibai Yes but I said:
"I signed up for a few private beta site before and there is all ways a review button as soon as I sign in."
Ok let's just more on with our lives now.

lol, was just a guess :)
