Doctors? No, no, no, no, no... I had a patient tell me he was going to knock my fucking lights out (he was psychotic). Another patient told me they shoved a dildo up their ass and now they can't get it out. No, I'm not trolling. My point is that doctors and therapists are private spaces and require graphic language at times. This is not such a place. — anongoodnurse34 mins ago
Would you happen to know if the team has started working towards IP banning our troll? Local mods can nuke individual user accounts, but Shog should be able to block all accounts from a given location.
If there's a concern about inadvertently blocking good faith users, it looks like there shouldn't be:
I read this, on the official answer to What can I do when getting “We are no longer accepting questions/answers from this account”?
My account is in good standing. Why am I still blocked?
The ban also takes in account the IP address. If you browse from a
shared computer, or from a loca...
Depends on the subject matter... But probably to some degree, I guess? I haven't done a study of the amount of time between public beta and graduation... and it's a bit skewed, probably.
Yeah... And it's largely due to how quickly it can get multiple answers. That's what really sets off the HNQ... speed of answers and votes on them.
No. My husband thinks I spend too much time here... I don't think he really accepts/understands that this is most of my social interaction with people.
I don't really have any friends. My coworkers aren't really the sorts to spend time outside of work together... and since I work until 7, there's never time to do anything in the evening.
@Catija By going out and working up the courage to introduce yourself. Honestly I suck at it too, but it's usually easier in an atmosphere where people are looking to engage. Sometimes it's nice to just people watch though.
@Catija Going to places that attract misfits can help with that. Gay bars are great fun. Bars more than clubs. Totally different vibe from the usual watering holes, there's a little more community going on.
@Catija Any place can work though. If you suit up and show up on a regular basis, people start to recognize you, and are more likely to chit chat.
I don't see how that's the same thing I'm doing now at all. I don't drink, really, so bars aren't fun for me. I don't feel comfortable going places alone, particularly new places.
In my case, being a touch aspie and all, going to concerts was a nice fit. The music is too loud for long in depth social stuff. And punk rock shows are dirt cheap ;)
@Catija If you wanna stay home and hermit, that's a perfectly valid choice. Just sounded like you were longing for some irl friends... Didn't mean to sound judgey or anything, just don't give up on doin stuff that you may, or may not, wanna do.
I've given up because I've spent my whole life looking for friends and never making any. Maybe I have a crappy view of what friends are but whenever I try to invite people to do stuff, they always flake on me and no one ever invites me to do anything... so I don't have friends.
Let Q be the label for A or ( A implies B ) A or not A. B or not B. If A: If B: A Q. If not B: A Q. Q. If not A: If B: A or not A If A: A Q Q. If not B: A or not A If A: A Q Q. Q. Q.
I've gone back and forth on the whole social thing throughout my life. When I was a young kid, I didn't really social at all. When I was a teenager I had a pretty sizable tribe. When I was in my twenties I went back and forth. These days I have like 2 real friends and a small handful of associates, but I'm slowly coming out of a year or two of solitude.
Update after additional thought:
I'm thinking that in most cases it's not as much about the specific language used as it is about the intent of the language. It's like the difference between pornography and art, both might include nudity, but they do it for different reasons and the reasons (or ...
@apaul I think you're learning? You're coming a long way considering that a month ago or so you were proposing banning specific words. I didn't look but you might consider linking to Robert's (?) answer to that question you asked a while ago.
@Catija lol that wasn't so much about banning words as much as it was a "these words are a strong indicator of problematic posts, and they're often used to be rude"
Still... also I think I've mentioned before (and I know you've crossed it out) but sometimes euphemistic terms can be more accepted than clinical ones.
