8:33 AM
@stormy I must confess, I literally fell asleep while I waited, sorry! But I guess the fact that it was way past midnight might be a valid excuse... Let's try another time!

9 hours later…
5:26 PM
@Stephie You WERE in dream land!! How cute! Are you a night owl or a morning person? Are you here?

@stormy Am here ;-)

How does one write 'hello' in German?

I'm a night owl by nature and a morning person by circumstances. Or, in other words, chronically tired... And it's "Hallo".

Really? I didn't know I was a night owl until I 'retired'! I sleep best between 6am and 9am...go figure. Hey!! HALLO! That simple, huh!? Grins...

That simple :-). German and English are related, after all.

5:31 PM
I am waiting to hear what you wanted to talk to me about...something about heathers? In Germany?
What other languages do you know?
Are you busy??? (duh)...

I'm getting the minors their dinner and so I'm a bit "multitasking".

Grinning widely...la, la, LAAAA! I thought so!! How many are you cooking for right now?

I speak German and English and a bit of French and very little Spanish and a few words of Italian. Latin doesn't count, does it?
I am not cooking. In G. often the midday meal is cooked and the evening meal cold - sandwiches, typically. But it's just the two kids tonight.

I can come back sweetie, I mean I feel like I am intruding...wow...I only speak one language...sigh! I did take LATIN and that was incredibly helpful in everything! Oh gees, this is noon? Or tonight? What is your favorite language (Can't say German)...

And it's a bit of a celebration - instead of plain old open sandwiches ist's "Hefezopf" today, which is similar to Challah.

5:38 PM
Sigh, I used to think I was so worldly. What is Challah?

Favourite? Probably English because it's easiest for me.

We DO have our own room, ya know?

French and I are a love-hate thing...
Nah, let's just stay here. This room can handle our traffic as well;-)

English!! HA HA HA...I think we sound so UGLY. Grin!! I love Italian...hey let's just stay right here!!

Challah? I just picked it because I thought most people in the US knew it?

5:41 PM
Or at least Americans with no accent...WELP...not this gal! What is it?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challah - because you asked.
@stormy ???

OH PAHLEESE! I'll check it out...right now? So you can eat? Grins

Ok, have to run, will be back later - sorry.

Yummm...go ahead!! I shall check back!

Oh, it seems there is an English (haha) term: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hefekranz

2 hours later…
7:52 PM
@stormy - I'm back...

Sue
8:17 PM
@Stephie @stormy Are you here? I saw that you've been chatting and thought I might catch you! I'm going to read the transcript and see what you've been up to!
@Stephie I'm so sorry about your buckthorn:(. I know challah because I was raised in a Jewish home (I'm a Christian now) and it was a staple, especially on Friday night for Sabbath dinner! My mom used to let us help her braid it.
@stormy So glad both of you like Latin! We had to take it in high school and loved it!
Stormy, wait till you see my pictures of my shrub-jungle!

@Sue I am here - good to meet you finally!

Sue
@Stephie Yay! Good to meet you too!
What time is it?

@Sue 10:25 pm. I am tired, but who cares ^_^

Sue
@Stephie I care! It looks like you've had a busy day!
I'm glad you guys kept your chat in here-it's fun to read.

Got up really soon today b/c it was hubbys turn for the weekly office breakfast.

Sue
8:28 PM
Does that mean you had to make breakfast for his office? Very sweet of you!

I dumped the dough in the fridge last night and finished it today. But he got cinnamon pinwheels.
Yes, because while he can cook, he can't bake...
But I prepared the eggs last night (hard boiled, cold) and most other stuff was bought.

Sue
Yum! Lucky man! You're great at cooking and gardening.
My hubby's a good cook too. Now that the kids have grown, it's all very basic though.

I'm a mom... No, it's probably a heritage thing. Being able to cook and bake is a "must"

Sue
He works nights Mon-Thurs, so I just eat leftovers or make veggies.

Ah, alone time! I love it... But it's currently a rare treat for me.

Sue
8:34 PM
@Stephie A German thing? I think it's similar to the Italian food culture-right?
I've learned to like my alone time, though I have a great hubby! How old are your young ones?

@Sue A bit. But I'm from SW Germany and baking is crazy here, especially round Christmas. The "minors" are six and nine.

Sue
SE has given me a great way to spend my alone time-in fact I've been here almost a year! Your kids must keep you very busy-lots to do at that age.

They keep me on my toes, but it's a great age.

Sue
@Stephie Definitely! Old enough to be interesting, young enough to see the world as a great place!
You still have a lot of time before they become teenagers! It's a tough time for kids here-there too I assume!

@Sue And curious! Still summer break here but they are getting restless. Daughter will start school in two weeks.
Puberty is cruel - imagine your brain partly restructuring itself. No matter in which language. Hope I'll remember this in a few years from now ^_^.

Sue
8:46 PM
@Stephie That's funny-I almost said curious! School starts this week around here. You most definitely will remember how cruel puberty can be, and your kids will be blessed by that.

@Sue School starts at different times in German states - and we are traditionally one of the last. Still have to get/make daughter her "Schultüte", glad I have a bit more time.
Can't start school without this here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schultüte

Sue
@Stephie I love the sound of that! What is it?
Ah, let me check that link...

(But the wiki pictures are ugly...)

Sue
@Stephie Wow-that is soooo cool! What an awesome way to ease them in. I wish we had that!
@Stephie I see what you mean, but the kids are cute! Are yours blonde like that?

She gave three reasons why starting school is "awesome": a) her Schultüte, b) pocket money and c) not being bored in the afternoon, b/c she can do homework.

Sue
8:54 PM
@Stephie Cute!! My boy loved homework too, made my life very easy!
How do you have so much time to devote to SE?
I suppose your kids are old enough to occupy themselves somewhat. Do you work, other than being a mother, which is the hardest job?
Too bad SE doesn't pay you. Your contributions are so valuable!

@Sue I don't have time, but it seems I can't resist. And yes, they finally find things to do. Not that I always approve, but still...
I'm currently working on my masters degree, but it still needs some work. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Sue
@Stephie Ha, ha about not always approving what your kids are doing..... What's your Master's in? I'm very impressed. It's quite hard to study, while raising kids, cooking a lot, and of course being a wife! Speaking of busy... I'm happy to let you go.

@Sue, so how old are your kids now?

Sue
@Stephie I was married before-a bad decision made at 19 but no regrets because I got my son out of it! He's almost 39-yikes!
15 years ago I married four teenage daughters! They're now 28, 29, 31, 32. Yes-my husband was a busy boy in his first marriage!

:23842205, I think it's not the bad decisions but what we make out of them what counts in the end.

Sue
9:13 PM
@Stephie You're sweet, and I agree. It hasn't been easy, because I never meant to put a child through divorce, but all of us are where we should be. And he's happily married, which is what I hoped for.

@Sue Glad to hear that! It has been nice to chat a bit, but I have to leave now. It's getting late here. Take care and until next time!

Sue
My daughters are great young ladies, though I must say there's a lot more drama than with my boy!
@Stephie Ok my friend! Have a wonderful night and happy baking!
@stormy I hope you're having a wonderful day! :)))
Hi to @J.Musser and @NiallC. too! Hope you guys are well.
I just realized @NiallC. and @stormy live in the same state! You should get together! I thought stormy lived in England, but I think that's Bamboo! I'm stuck here in unpredictable New England.

Sue
9:39 PM
Wanna hear something cool! I just got my second Popular Question badge on SA! They were my 1st & 3rd SE questions ever! I came here through a Google search after being prescribed ginger for a digestion problem, and the rest is history! Interesting, though, the questions don't have many answers or votes, so either those viewers aren't being helped, or they're not voting :)) Speaking of which-I'm getting closer to Electorate here. Off I go.......
