This is a general discussion room, but please feel free to create more subject-specific rooms (a single room with every possible discussion isn't very helpful)

Welcome to the SE DEVOPS website/chatroom! :)
Who will enter!

Yo!
Congrats on being the first mod in the room.

haha :)

I heard our awesome SE communities got DOS/DDOS last night.
By God knows who and why?

5:10 PM
yeah, curious but not the first time it happened
nick's twitter is full of goodies

Man, this is so typical...
I've had a problem for two days, I keep waiting for the devops stackexchange page to open. It finally opens, so I rush to replicate the problem so I can ask a well crafted question, and the error I was gettting the past two days decides to not show itself.
The questions are pouring in quickly

This is exciting! :)

Yup never been part of a SE beta before, hello all

Q: The Real Essential Questions of Every Beta

AsheeshRThe blog post Seven Essential Meta Questions of Every Beta gets linked to prominently from every beta's meta. However, this blog post is somewhat inaccurate and misdirects new users. In almost every beta, the site design question, for example, gets asked and undergoes a fair bit of discussion eve...

I hereby propose we rename this SE site: jenkins.stackexchange.com.

5:24 PM
lol

All in favor?

lol

I have lots of azure questions, but sadly they all boil down to , "why isn't it working?"

Already lost count of how many of the questions asked are answerable by a simple Jenkins plugin search. :/ but, no, I'm not going to be a jaded asshole. not this time. this community is going to bring out the best in me!

Really, people want to "set the tone" of the new website with "jenkins" tagged questions... ffs. face palm

5:28 PM
This is what meta questions are for, we get to point nad shame the bad questions.

I think someone is copying questions from other SE sites, questions that were tagged jenkins.

hmmm. so weird, I feel the lack of emote reactions to the chat messages here. so used to Slack I guess. sometime you just want to give a thumbs up to someone's chat message...

I don't know if this still works,,

@Sathya 😤
(but thanks, just disappointed)

5:56 PM
@Evgeny wow, your question are so broad sometimes ...
(no offense intended, just that I don't see where to start to write an answer :p)

Yea @Evgeny you belong on zen.stackexchange.com
I mean, @Evgeny, I appreciate your effort to raise the level of discussion, but such broad questions are just bound to be closed on SE sites. That's just how this place works.

6:12 PM
Yeah, guess this will be yet another place for "which tool to use to do X", with answers ranging from "Jenkins" to "Just use Jenkins".

Site formation question, not sure if this is a good one, what are your thoughts?
When bootstrapping an N-Tier, how important is it to run the caching tier on a separate tier from the webtier?

An example:

I want to setup a multi-tier app, and I am going to use memcached/redis/something else to do caching outside of my application, using an in-memory approach.

Should I enforce at an early stage to put the caching tier on its own set of boxes or is it appropriate to run it on the same server as my webtier?

What are the risks if I don't enforce this segregation early?

@HenryWHHackv2.0 Maybe "they" were afraid of the DevOps beta launch today? :)

Maybe the trolls was taking it to the next level.
Super Trolling!

8:16 PM
I'm back.
In fact I was always here!. :)

Suuure. You weren't down. There was no outage. Everything was fine.

8:46 PM
So that upload thing is not working.

I think the room should be called ChatOps :)

Wait one minute.
