A: What is the most commonly used way to apologize in Japanese?

Nicola BerniniThe most common ways are Sumimasen and Gomennasai. The first one is more formal while the second one can be used with people who are closer in terms of relationship

Is the answer here correct? I thought the rules for ごめんなさい were somewhat different.

Well put.
My simplified idea about the use of ごめん(なさい) is that you needed to apologise because you actually had done something wrong.
Whereas すみません is primarily just social glue, not a 'real' apology. (Though it can be used as such)

Q: What do the language word types means here?

AlanI was looking for a site that could help me with the language tests and found this one: http://www.jlptstudy.net/N5/?vocab-list One thing I am confused by is the type column of this grid. Can anyone tell me what they think int, u-v and the other values mean?
