I am considering buying "Oxford German Dictionary". Is that too hard for a beginner? Does it contain all the phonetic transcriptions for pronunciation of German words?

@WillHunting sorry - never looked into this one... but my strong believe is that there are no dictionaries being too hard for a beginner, but there are a lot of dictionaries being too incomplete ;)

Phonetic transcriptions are one side but you will have to listen to real sound samples to get it right.

@Takkat Den Gedanken, die Seite etwas zu öffnen, um mehr Publikum anzuziehen, würde ich auch unterstützen. Fragen wie die "bildungsfern"-Frage berühren die deutsche Sprache aber nur noch durch das - bekannte und verstandene - Quellwort. Dann sollten wir konsequenterweise aber auch gleich jede Zielsprache für die angefragte Übersetzung akzeptieren. Bei der großen Anzahl an Benutzern sollte durchaus eine Chance bestehen, dass irgendjemand hinreichende Kenntnisse zur Beantwortung mitbringt.

@Matthias deshalb meine ich auch borderline on-topic - aber ich kann mir denken, dass einzelne etwas schwierigere Übersetzungsfragen nach Englisch (wir sind eine US-Seite!) schon erlaubt sein sollten. Wir hatten das auch schon mal auf Meta.
