6:29 AM
I'd hate to say it, but this bottled water tastes damn good
@Hulk hey there, question for you, is this proper use of konjunktiv II? Wenn du die Stadt gewusst hättest, würdest du sie hassen

6:47 AM
@Astrum gewusst gekannt (subjunctive usage is correct)

a wild takkat appears
thanks
I've got another question too
"how long do you need to pass security = wie lange braucht man, um die Sicherheit/Sicherung zu vorbeifahren"?

...um durch die Sicherheitskontrollen zu kommen.

huh, I was pretty far off the mark

vorbeifahren would mean to drive around/avoid

heh

6:53 AM
you could just say "Kontrollen" if it is clear from context what kind of checks you are talkiung about

Kontrolle alwasys messes me up
I always think it means "control"
my water is all gone, dammit

Well yes - it does have that meaning as well, but it's not the only one in German

kontrollieren

Kontrollieren can mean both to control and to check

another question has come up...
so if we're talking about present case "ich habe seit zwei Jahren hier gewohnt" is fine, right? how about future? "Ich werde seit zwei Jahren hier gewohnt habe"?

6:59 AM
...haben.

weird
ok thanks
what about "will be"?
I will be living here for three months

Ich werde hier drei Jahre lang wohnen.
Just simple future, as German does not have a continuous form.

I see
sounds so weird to me without "for"

Well, we are using "lang" to indicate that we are talking about an interval of time

so you would have to say "fünf Stunden pro Tag lang"?

7:04 AM
It is optional
But it would be placed after the time
So fünf Stunden lang pro Tag

that makes sense

But I'd rather omit it here, because everything is clear from context anyway

hmmmm
why did my friend correct it to "seit zwei JahrEN?
I thought it would be Jahre

seit is a Präposition that requires the Dativ Duden entry
So it would be correct to say "Ich habe zwei Jahre (lang) hier gewoht".
But "Ich wohne hier seit zwei Jahren."

but not correct for "seit" I gotcha

8:06 AM
@Takkat what computer parts site do you use?

2 hours later…
9:38 AM
@Astrum for Germany/Austria/EU geizhals.de gives a nice overview on parts and shops.

10:00 AM
thanks
