6:54 PM
It's time to pick up some foils for my deck, of either the old or the new version (whichever happens to be cheaper)
Project make-time-warp-more-expensive-than-it-needs-to-be is full steam ahead. I traded for three full art cryptics and a kaladesh Chalice last week.

Really? Full art Cryptic Command?

Really. It's a pretty ridiculous card to print full art.

I know what it is. I'm surprised you want to play with it in a deck
I think it has the record as the most complex textless card ever printed

At regular I either whip out my phone and show people when they ask (if they seem standoffish) or just tell them what it does (if they seem friendly)
At comp I get fewer questions. Most are satisfied with my explanation. I've never had anyone ask for a judge.
Well, maybe once. I can't remember. But it doesn't cause me grief either way.

Honestly, I wouldn't trust my opponent to remember exactly what Cryptic Command does. I probably wouldn't trust myself to remember exactly what it does.

7:05 PM
I know all of this because I've been playing with one full art and three normal copies for a couple of years now.
tap bounce draw counter

The tap mode is the odd one out, right? It doesn't just tap one thing, IIRC it taps all (nonland?) permanents target player controls

Okay, you just illustrated your own point lol
Tap all creatures your opponents control (no target, and I had to look it up myself)
So making yourself hexproof would not cause an illegal target

Personally, if I ever saw a textless card (or a foreign card, for that matter) in a tournament, I would ask a judge for oracle text unless it's extraordinarily simple and I'm absolutely positive I know what it does, like Lightning Bolt

As you should

@Rainbolt It's actually counter, bounce, tap, draw

7:11 PM
Is the order of modes important?
Oh, of course. You follow the instructions in the order written. Good catch
So if I cast Golgari Grave Troll and then counter my own troll and draw, I can dredge right? But if it were draw then counter, I couldn't dredge, right?

That sounds right to me

@Rainbolt That is correct

Well you have me convinced that textless cryptic was a mistake, but I still want to play with it because it is pretty

7:24 PM
Actually, this is making me think that I should buy a new Blue Elemental Blast. In my one competitive deck, it's the only cheap card that I don't have in English

Seems straightforward enough. I don't really like foreign cards, but I would like to play with Japanese islands. I think they look cool: i.ebayimg.com/images/g/UMgAAOSwEetWAQWk/s-l300.jpg
And everyone knows what an island is, so there's no need for the label really
Or rather, no need to be able to read the label

My deck has a few French Tropical Islands, which are similarly so distinctive and simple that I don't think there's any confusion

7:42 PM
I had a few Japanese (I think) Goblin Guides in my deck when they were in Standard because those were the only copies my LGS had when I was looking for some

1 hour later…

For MM3, Wizards has had a few instances of humorously deciding who should preview which card.
They also had Brian Kibler preview Bonfire of the Damned, which he famously lost to at a World Cup
They also had Commander-themed sites preview Deadeye Navigator and Zur the Enchanter, both of which are very controversial in the format.

That's a neat way to generate some buzz

And the official judge blog revealed Grafdigger's Cage, and then explained the weird rules interactions it has
