@MonicaCellio It may be that once a post has been featured long enough to be silently excluded from the sidebar, it gets a permanent flag that silently keeps it off the sidebar forever.

^^^ This is not currently the top-scoring answer (though there's a clump at 3-4 and nothing higher), but it would be the smallest change among the proposals that change anything. I'd personally prefer that we tweak policy incrementally rather than making a big changer change this year and then deciding to partly roll back next year.
