A: Does Orthodox Judaism Recognize Reform Conversions?

Double AAThe issue here is essentially one of lowest common denominator. A conversion will only be accepted by Group X if they think that Group Y, who oversaw the conversion, did so appropriately and successfully, following all the relevant laws as understood by Group X. Otherwise, Group X will continue t...

A: Conversion to Orthodox Judaism

msh210Depends what you mean by "true". For millennia, Judaism believed roughly in the same things as what we now call Orthodox Judaism, and abided by roughly the same rules. So in that sense, yes, Orthodox Judaism is the only true way to convert: other conversions are not to Judaism. However, if you ...

My employer's landlord — there are a number of small companies in the building — tries to be user-friendly in various ways. It has a room with a ping-pong table, books, a video game console, and one wall entirely of blackboard paint. On that wall, the landlord puts various fun or interesting things. [continued]
[continued] They've had word searches, riddles, and various non-riddle questions. A week or two ago, they asked something along the lines of "My vision of a perfect world is…". As the second answerer, I wrote "Isaiah 11". The question was gone the next time I looked.

@msh210 I cannot honestly stomach the reform perspective. It is like a deflated balloon. I worship with them sometimes in hopes to offer some perspective that may restore faith in some passage of Scripture or challenge a scoffing perspective. I love them dearly, and God always seems to meet me wherever I go; but i often come away sad and deeply concerned for them. There remains some core of deep conviction and I endeavor to fan that flame when I'm with them.
@msh210 I would not, I think I could not actually convert through the conservative movement. But I wonder if the education available might be a place to start and I do worship with them.

@Sarah conservation is worthless for you. If you love truth, you need the source of Judaism, not any hybrid cultural product of Occident

Q: Merge [averah] with [sin]

MithrandirSomeone created averah (2 questions), but there's an existing tag, sin, with 165 question. Can someone synonymize averah with sin?

@DoubleAA Posts like this are where I think that Karaite tag would be helpful. I suspect it would be used very rarely, but very effective when used, just because Karaites don't generally come here and so those kinds of questions could linger unanswered for a long time with out some way to herald in the Karaites. A few contacts to a few Karaites asking them to subscribe to the tag and it solve that matter well. The true experts on their practice can answer their questions.

Q: Order of Karaite prayers

Tim GoodallI was privileged to find a Karaite Prayer Book on the web and it is the one edited by Nehemia Gordon in consulation with R’ Moshe Dabah based on the Avraham Firkovich Edition Originally Published Vilna 1870. It contains some of the most beautiful prayers I have ever seen but my question is what ...

I doubt Karaites would even subscribe to a general non-orthodox tag and if they did, such a tag is apt to be used more often and likely mostly not for karaite quesitons, so the Karaite is more apt to just unsubscribe eventually and not be there when the karaite questions do come in.

Q: Are the [bava-kama], [baba-metziah], and [baba-batra] tags for the Gemara or the Mishna?

MithrandirNone of these tags has a tag wiki excerpt that explains which one, and I'd... like to write one? :P But seriously, are they for the Mishna or the Gemara?
