@IsaacMoses based off the way he asks the question it sounds like hes trying to muster support to argue with this Rabbi, it seems the motivation is not purely educational. Are there any policies regarding this type of motivation?

Q: If a man is married to a Gentile, is he forbidden from receiving an Aliyah?

AaronRecently a man went into a Sephardic synagogue with his Conservative Convert fiance to pray and eat. Upon learning of the woman's status, the Rabbi informed the man that once the marriage is consummated, he would be forbidden from receiving 'Aliyoth and there may be further halakhic repurcussions...

@Mefaresh If the question was in the form "This rabbi is totally wrong, for the following reasons, right?" that'd probably get closed as a rant. However, here, the actual question is a legitimate informational one, and the stated motivation is clear and clearly justifies the question. We're generally not in the business of disallowing questions whose motivation we don't like, and I think a stated motivation would have to be more objectionable than this one before I'd consider it worthy of ...
... policy-based action.
... and that's my shooting-from-the-hip opinion

Q: Is it considered "tircha detzibbur" if the rav makes a long drasha?

DanFThere is one rav who has a tendency to drash too long during Shalosh Se'udot and causes Motza'ei Shabbat ma'ariv to start frequently 20 - 30 minutes after Shabbat is over. A number of the congregants have stores in the neighborhood that they have to open after Shabbat. A few people have politely...

I understand. I just wouldn't want the site to become the haven for marshalling sources against the rav you don't like
Where can I find a text version of the biur hagra? Specifically ביאור הגר"א סימן כ"ה ס"ק ל"ז

2:31 PM
@Mefaresh There's a fine line between doing that and trying to understand what a rav has said. And, depending on the communal context, there are times when doing just that is probably warranted. Best for us to deal with factual questions as such and leave what people do with the information up to them.

@Mefaresh You could probably find a copy of the M"B in Hebrewbooks.org where the text is copyable

Biur hagra not mishna berurah

@Mefaresh Isn't that printed in the standard M"B?
@Mefaresh ... or is that found in the full S"A volumes? If so, then same suggestion to try HB.org

No. Shaar hatzion. Biur halacha. And beer hetev
I song see on their site an option for text of SA
*dont

2:55 PM
@Mefaresh Here's BH"G 25. I don't see se'if katan notation. The text is copyable but imperfect (scanned by computer, not typed in by someone who can read).

@IsaacMoses thank you so much for your help!

@Mefaresh You're welcome. I hope that gets you what you want. Most of the stuff on HB is of similar quality - scanned in, so the text is copyable and searchable but not necessarily perfect.
@DoubleAA baruch shekivanti

@Mefaresh use their beta site beta.hebrewbooks.org/tursa

@DoubleAA That is so pretty

@IsaacMoses@DoubleAA why isn't my Eruv chatzeros a dupe? I don't want to waste a flag
Ill leave it up it up if its different

@user6591 Personally I'd rather call it rice crackers. The OP called it Matza. "so many achronim" let's not got ahead of ourselves. Kedem sell 'pomegranete grape juice' which can't be used for 4 kosot and has a disclaimer. This is no worse. There are gluten free matzas from potato starch which have a disclaimer. This is no worse. Look: amazon.com/Yehuda-Matzo-Squares-Gluten-10-5000-ounces/dp/…Double AA ♦ 1 hour ago
WHY make potato starch into fake matza???

I just realized i should have posted a PTIJ "who should i vote for?" (It's elections day here.) Now it's too late, and no one will be interested next year (unless the government collapses that quickly). 😞

@Scimonster OT: RFפ. "Whom should everyone vote for?" on the other hand, could probably be asked as non-PTIJ, and could get authoritative answers from various posekim.

@IsaacMoses Glutards want matza-pizza too

@DoubleAA Why not make a soft dough out of potato starch and make pizza out of that?

@IsaacMoses Because our great-grandfathers didn't do that!!! Poreitz Geder!! You need to eat two kezaysim of matza-pizza to be yotzei the mitzva (the chazon ish required 3 each night)

5:22 PM
@DoubleAA Everyone knows pizza was invented by the Jews and stolen from Columbus by the Italians. I don't know what you're talking about.

@IsaacMoses No proof. Italians don't hold of kitniyot.

@DoubleAA More to the point, they probably didn't hold of our kezaysim.

@IsaacMoses I don't need a rabbi to tell me how to vote. I would actually include as much in the question: "Note that i am not telling you how to vote. For that, CYLOR if you're Chareidi; check your conscience otherwise. ;)"

@Scimonster If it's a matter of conscience, why ask on MY?

@IsaacMoses It's PTIJ. Basically looking for "sources" that say which party to vote for.

5:33 PM
It could be that my most recent question is an expression of unfortunate half-conscientiousness. Process: 1) Based on a superficial understanding, come up with a curious notion. 2) Begin posting the curious notion as a question on MY. 3) Like a good little Yodeyan, try to back up all assertions in the curious notion with sources. 4) Look up sources, discover that it's a bit complicated. 5) Include some of the complication in the question. ...
... 6) Discover that understanding the complication a bit more completely would answer the question.
Maybe I should have posted the question from the POV of my original state of greater ignorance.

A: Is the Mitzvah of Tzedakah fulfilled in a fraud?

MefareshThe Ben Ish Chai in Shu"t Rav Poalim (Sec. 4. Orach Chaim - Siman 2) says in the context of where a person unknowingly wore invalid teffilin for many years. The Ben Ish Chai writes that the person still gets the merit for the mitzvah. He quotes the Chid"a (Sefer Devash Ma'areches 4 - Sec. 4) who...

@Mefaresh Why did you delete your answer to the question abt. putting tefillin away? Answers which only present one opinion are perfectly valid, especially when other opinions are already represented.

7:25 PM
@yEz your right

yEz
7:55 PM
@Mefaresh no strong feelings. I don't know how direct the tzu shtell from tefillin is.

@yEz please elaborate. All it means is that when you find out you didn't do the mitzvah you still got schwartz. See that ben ish chair inside
*chai
Hes saying a yesod

yEz
@Mefaresh You can never have enough schwartz, after all.
:)

Lol AUTO CORRECT!!!! ARRR
I don't even notice half the time

yEz
@Mefaresh By tzedaka, it is possible that the mitzvah is not the act of giving, but the resulting situation of the other person getting benefit. There are some who explain the lack of beracha for bein adam l'chaveiro mitzvos this way - the mitzvah isn't the act. As opposed to tefillin (and mitzvos like it) where the performance of the act is the main component.

@yEz I will concede that Rav Tzvi Pesach Frank is doche this Ben Ish Chai. See Har Tzvi Orach chaim 35

I hear but that's not universal uptyche in brocho on tzedaka. Sridei Eish has diff pshat siman 61
@IsaacMoses hilarious
@yEz I hear but that's not universal uptyche in brocho on tzedaka. Sridei Eish has diff pshat siman 61

@Mefaresh couldn't help it. The fit was too good.

How my auto correct goes from schar to schwartz I have no idea
@yEz b'kitzur I don't hear your taina
@IsaacMoses what do you think

@Mefaresh Sorry. I'm not holding.

yEz
@Mefaresh I wasn't intending to make it dependent on the beracha. That was just an example. It's a common understanding of mitzvos bein adam l'chaveiro.

8:20 PM
@yEz I hear i need to think about it more.

yEz
@IsaacMoses That's the last thing we need - a Druish princess!

Q: Litmus test of "not a dupe"

yEzThis seems incredibly obvious to me, but I've been challenged on this before on the site, so I just want to make a post and then I can reference it in the future. If question B is accused of being a duplicate of question A, and there is at least one answer that is a valid answer to question A th...
