@AE What do you mean ? One of OP's puzzle previously used some accent based substitiution, which was solved by f", it would be terrible if it had any connection with that idea.

Anyone pursued the Morse code idea ? It might be red herring, but it has some vague connection with the first hint.

Fourth hint posted--and let me just say, off-topic, that the word "tadpoles" gets weirder every time I type it.

The newest hint implies that what matters is not the location of the italics, but whether a word has them or not (two states - has someone tried encoding that as ones and zeroes yet?)
Also note that in ASCII, bytes that encode letters never start with a 1 digit.

The more hints are added, the more I get confused...

I probably got it.

Convert each word: If not italicized, to word length, if italicized, then irrespective of number of italics, either to 1, if the lenght is odd, or 2, if lenght is even. Then pair each italicized to the right side word, and read in A1Z26 (i.e Bold toad --> 24 -- > W).

This also explains why @IAmInPLS got DIE as the only meaningful word, as it contained no italics, so normal lenght -> A1Z26 rules followed.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough time, this idea just may be a ridiculous red herring, so feel free to edit my answer.

That's definitely it! Perfectly explains all the hints about accompanying. Nice job figuring it out!

Thanks to a kind guy who had time named @Verence to deciphering it as:

Actually Wu33o decrypted it and edited my answer, Verence commented.
