@WheatWizard Hmm CraneFlak takes 9 seconds, and that's under WSL :P I think CraneFlak is actually faster than BrainHack

12:26 AM
@ASCII-only That seems to be the case
It has less features though

12:41 AM
@WheatWizard The brain-flak compiler produces one that runs in 2.88s :P

Which one?

4 hours later…
4:37 AM
@WheatWizard Conor's
@Dennis Can you pull Charcoal? Thanks

5:03 AM
@ASCII-only how long does compilation take?

@Phoenix For what

The quine in the BF compiler

@Phoenix Too long :P like 10 seconds
It takes way to long to compile with -O3, I stopped it after like 30 mins

5:27 AM
@ASCII-only Done.

6 hours later…
11:19 AM
@Dennis Can you please pull Brachylog?

3 hours later…

@Dennis does TIO's java use the jre or the jdk? I'm looking to use a library that is bundled in the jdk but not the jre
It looks like you have the JDK downloaded but the java executable is in the JRE directory (the jre comes with the jdk)

@Poke isn't the JDK required to compile anything?

yes
but after it's compiled it needs to run
and it looks like tio is using the java executable that is in the jre folder
rather than the jdk's bin folder

So the compiler can find the library, but the runtime can't?

well the compiler can't either technically
but i can pass compiler flags on tio
so i can manually add it to the classpath
so yes, the runtime cannot
i guess i can add an Argument to alter the classpath for the runtime too
hmm, that doesn't seem to be working
same thing happens if i separate the arguments
probably me doing something wrong

3:19 PM
@Dennis Can you pull Braingolf please?

@Dennis could you pull Triangular please?
And if you have time, maybe add Cubically?

@Mayube Done.
@MDXF Done. .oO(One day, I'll actually just pull it and forget to compile.)

3:46 PM
@Poke After two levels of symbolic links /usr/bin/java points to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.131-1.b12.fc25.x86_64/jre/bin/java.
I assume you want /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.131-1.b12.fc25.x86_64/bin/java instead, yes?

@Dennis As a third party, I can say that that is what reflects my own setups.

1 hour later…
5:08 PM
@Dennis yeah i think that should work

5:20 PM
@Poke Would that have any adverse effects, i.e., could old permalinks break because they relied on JRE?

that is a good question
honestly i'm not sure
i would think not
I'd be okay leaving it as the JRE if I could get adding a jar to the runtime classpath to work. (See my TIO link above)
that should be the equivalent to what i'm doing on my computer
although i guess that's probably program arguments
that... makes more sense, haha

5:36 PM
So what we need is a way to pass command-line options to java? That can be arranged.

yeah that's probably a less risky change on your end

IDK enough C# to know if it's also a problem there.
But it might be, it has a special runtime too, which might take args.
dotnet (core) only really has -v for verbose, however mono can take runtime options for optimizations, which GC to use, etc.

6:28 PM
@Poke It doesn't error now, but it also doesn't do anything. Is that expected?
Not live yet.

that is expected based on what i have there.
you can print it out after the previously-offending line
System.out.println(javapOut.toString());
i guess you don't need to explicitly call toString
lulz

Excellent. I'll rebuild then.

good stuff
nice quick turnaround
thanks

Btw, I'd use /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk/lib/tools.jar instead, so it won't break when Java 8 receives a minor update.

will do
earlier i had chosen that based on System.getProperty("java.home")
iirc

6:53 PM
@Dennis Can you please pull Brachylog?

Sorry @Dennis would you mind pulling (and compiling :P) Triangular again?

7:10 PM
@Fatalize Done.
@MDXF Done and done.

Thanks :D

7:29 PM
Thanks
