@Patrx2 I kind of want your option on this. Is the major pentatonic scale major in nature?

@Dom I'd say so. If you look at the heptatonic major mode, you've really got two distinguishing features: the major mediant and the location of the mi-fa intervals. Now, in a diatonic modal system, the mi-fa positions are unique. For instance, given mi-fa positions of 3-4 and 7-8, and a diatonic note collection, you can only generate the major mode. However...
The mediant does give a way of classifying diatonic modes in general. If you look at the Mixolydian and Lydian modes, the mi-fa positions are different (3-4 & 6-7, and 4-5 & 7-8 respectively), but the mediants are the same as the major's. Thus the mediant provides a way of classifying major-like heptatonic modes and minor-like ones. Now, the diatonic pentatonic modes (at least the anhemitonic ones) lack the mi-fa intervals, but you can distinguish mediants.
So there is absolutely no reason why you can't make a similar distinction of major-like and minor-like, and the nomenclature of anhemitonic pentatonic modes reflects that.
In fact, the major pentatonic is a subset of any of the major-like heptatonic modes, because the gaps in the scale are located right in the scale degrees that would distinguish between them, i.e., 4 and 7.

hi folks, I'm learning an easy version of Mission Impossible Theme. There are 1-2 bars that sound wrong to me. Is it OK to get confirmation via a Q on the site?
If so, what is the best way to show the sheet music? A photo? Or is there a music editor? I'm a veteran on other Stack sites but relatively inexperienced here.

@MichaelEaster It's very iffy. I'd suspect that the second "it's not about..." on our on-topic page (music.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic) would apply. I'd suggest maybe a Google search on "Mission Impossible theme sheet music" might help. The first thing I found was onlinesheetmusic.com/lalo-schifrin-a3497.aspx, which gives you a number of versions to compare against (easy and regular arrangements).

OK, I appreciate it... though there are questions about the notation in sheet music (e.g. rest values, and so on)
but i won't risk it ... i'll try and compare but I'm a newbie and I don't think I'll be able to determine the correctness of the specific sheet music that I own.
oh well... lesson learned about buying quality stuff!

@MichaelEaster Questions about notation, i.e., "What does this notation mean?" are within our remit, although in many cases you may find an equivalent question already on the site.
