8:50 PM
Hi @RoryAlsop @MeaningfulUsername @yo'
Anyone guitarist?

yo'
@berserk sorry, I'm only meta-present in this room :)

@berserk: I am.

@yo' lol np
@MeaningfulUsername cool! Flamenco?

Nope, mainly electric.

Oh.

8:53 PM
Though I dabble some with acoustic, and use a bit of hybrid picking on the electric.

No accoustic?
Oh cool.

A little bit, but flamenco is way out of my abilities.

Oh okay.

That stuff is hard for real :).

Haha, its not that hard. Just a little practice :D
Tho, I am just a noob, playing from 6 months.
I learnt a rumba flamenca strum, which is cool.
I find it hard to play steel strings, coz I love picking than strumming.
Even tho I learnt most things on steel strings.

8:55 PM
I thought flamenco was strictly nylon?

Yes, it is.
I mean I learnt basic guitar on steel strings.
Playing it on steel will kinda grind your fingers XD especially flamenco strums

Then you should have built up strength so nylon will be easier.
I think it's good ty play all types of guitars, electric, acoustic, nylon and steel.
I started out on nylon, and have recently started playing more of it.
Fingerpicking is great fun.
I've played electric guitar for so long so it's hard to notice improvements, with fingerpicking on a nylon, which I haven't done as much, you see progression almost by the hour.
Like when you start playing.

I wonder how playing electric guitar feels.
Do you have to press the frets hard? Or just kinda touch them? :P

I use the middle, ring and pinky for picking even with nylon though, since then I don't have to change for hybrid picking when using a pick.
I use my index finger for upstrokes, like you would with a pick.
@berserk Well, you can have different gauges, so it can be as difficult as a steel string, or like butter. I've come to like it somewhere in between, going from thicker to thinner strings.

I learnt this one, The music is so good ^^
@MeaningfulUsername Oh.
I got both steel and nylon guitars. Thinking of buying an electric too.
Or maybe drums :P

9:05 PM
Learning some drums is definitely useful for all musicians.

I just saw some drummers playing drums. So cool *_*
This is so awesome.

I thought playing with a pick was a big no-no in this style ;).

haha same
But this fella nailed it.
Actually some play spanish with pick.
Not me tho.
I can't even strum acoustic guitar with pick.

I dig both Al DiMeola and John McLaughlin. But when they played with Paco De Lucia, I think they sound very harsh compared to him. They both play nylons with picks.

Sorry, but I don't really know who they are. I am kinda noob :P

9:12 PM
Paco De Lucia was a flamenco guitarist, the other two are jazz/prog guitarists. They did a collaboration in a flamenco style which was quite popular.

Thanks for the info :)
Gonna explore Paco De Lucia songs.

Didn't know they played together after the classic stuff of the 80s. Can be a bit focused on speed, and it shows that fingerstyle is to prefer. Impressive none the less, and Paco was a monster player for sure.

Haha dat speed.
I still have to make my left hand pinky strong.
Also the ring finger of right hand.
Man, that speed.

Just using the pinky from the start is good. Many, including me, don't use it enough in the beginning and have to practice a lot to get it into things.
Yeah, dudes like to play!

I am doing some exercises to make it strong.
Like 4-fret exercise.

9:27 PM
That's good. Barring with the pinky is handy.
Scale exercises are also good, although not the most exciting thing to do.

But they make your playing better, personal experience.
I did some exercise, which improved my picking.

2 hours later…
11:28 PM
@MeaningfulUsername my kids love this one - I can just about muddle through it
@berserk evening - sorry - it's been a busy couple of days

@RoryAlsop: Dang, mad skills...

@MeaningfulUsername hadn't seen that video - lovely stuff

Me neither, found it now when I looked for something to show berserk.
Didn't know until now that De Lucia died last year either...
