@AlanMunn I also thought I voted to leave open. Possibly clicked the wrong button.

@R.Schumacher I guess so. Anyway the closing storm seems to have died down for a moment, and there was another vote to leave open too.

@AlanMunn Retry. Unable to edit previous answer. I did vote to close as I felt that there was no answer possible other than opinion based on context and personal preferences.

3:06 AM
@R.Schumacher I guess this is the part I don't understand. The question is asking about the existence of services which will clean up LaTeX documents. This is surely answerable in principle.

3:49 AM
@AlanMunn It is very possible I am over sensitive to that kind of question after 20+ years of students who are unwilling to open to the style guide or organizational requirements and just comply with the requirements. Also the word 'beautiful' then reinforced the nature of strictly opinion based answers. Probably I should have actually answered the question with suggesting review of appropriate style manuals, etal.

4:13 AM
@R.Schumacher then answer it! :)

yo'
5:12 AM
@AlanMunn well, the question is IMHO a typical shopping question. Basically the only possible answers are *yes there are people who offer LaTeX services" (not really helpful) or "look here and there for a list of such people" (clear advertisement, which is frowned upon).

@yo' Actually I don't think that counts as advertising, depending on what the list is. E.g. the link that Heiko pointed to is appropriate, and perhaps there are others. Individuals posting their services is obviously not.

yo'
@AlanMunn funnily, we seem to be thr only SE site with this view :) (not unusual, we are different, I'm just sayin')
I've had similar Qs closed elsewhere quite immediatelly...
Anyway, gotta go, bye!

3 hours later…
7:58 AM
@AlanMunn the tug list Heiko pointed too is not a free list , one has to pay to get in it.

8:48 AM
@UlrikeFischer Yes, but if you are talking about consultants then this is surely a given: we are talking chargeable services

ooh I can haz money for knowing TeX? I'm broke then. :)

@JosephWright I didn't mean that the service mentioned there must be payed, but that it costs to get into the list. tug.org/consultants/listing.html. Which means that a link to this list advertises only the consultants which are willing to pay for it.

@UlrikeFischer Yes, I understood that: I meant that one expects that commercial services have to pay to be listed in a directory (same with the phone book/yellow pages, etc.)

9:04 AM
Upgrading cambridge!

@PauloCereda to oxford?

@DavidCarlisle That's my Mac. :)

@PauloCereda update the mac to windows at the same time!

@DavidCarlisle ooh
@DavidCarlisle I actually have Windows 10 inside my Mac, as a virtual machine. :)

@PauloCereda what with all this system maintenance and stuff it's a wonder how you ever find time to work on your thesis....

9:09 AM
@DavidCarlisle uh-oh, I knew there's something missing...

@PauloCereda just go into that win10 vm. fire up word, and you'll soon have it written.

@DavidCarlisle I thought of buying an Office license for emergencies. I was very annoyed by the fact a Windows version of Office is cheaper than its Mac counterpart...

@JosephWright But the question is if it is okay to link to this list from tex.sx. It is imho no obvious to the user that this list is not a service of TUG but advertisement. It says "This is a list of the professional TeX consultants and vendors who have asked to be included here." and not "who pay a yearly fee to be included here ...".

@UlrikeFischer I don't think one could reasonably say no links to commercial services, provided it is clear that is what they are. Perhaps best to edit to say something like 'TUG maintain a directory of consultants who have paid to be included: ...'.

@PauloCereda we thought of buying one for M for school work but it turned out his school's licence allowed download for students for home use for free, so that was cheaper than expected:-)

9:17 AM
@DavidCarlisle ooh awesome! USP has those DreamSpark program licenses, but they only offer operating systems and development tools, not office applications. :)
@David: I got angry when Microsoft downgraded the OneDrive service. As I used this service from the beginning, I had a 15GB extra space bonus and that was supposed to be permanent. Also, because of sync'ing stuff to my iPad and Android, I had more space. At the end of the day, I had 40GB of space. Then Microsoft decided to remove everything and left me with 5GB.

@PauloCereda you can always install cygwin do cd /usr/bin; ln -s emacs.exe word then you get a fully functional Word at a fraction of the usual cost.

@DavidCarlisle :)
Now it's time to upgrade! See you guys later, hopefully with cambridge running F25!

9:44 AM
@JosephWright I'm not sure if it would be good if it were common practice to put links to payed services in comments or answers.

yo'
@UlrikeFischer that's what I question, too. @JosephWright And it's also a reason why I consider the question a shopping question.

10:12 AM
@yo' A 'shopping' question normally would mean asking for a specific recommendation, here we are being asked if there is data available on possible commercial approaches: doesn't feel the same to me

yo'
@JosephWright I don't think it's the same either, but still I feel the shoppingness there... As I say, I've had similar questions closed before elsewhere
@PauloCereda @egreg There's me singing in an ad hoc choir here (weekend workshop, Sunday of Christ the King concert):

@UlrikeFischer, @yo' One for meta I think

yo'
@JosephWright I feel the same, but I can't do that now if you asked me: teachin in 35 minutes and wanna get lunch :-)

10:47 AM
@yo' yay, I saw you! <3

11:33 AM
@yo' That looks very much like a catholic church!

11:59 AM
@AlanMunn -- not that i know of. i'm not "at home" right now (escaped to quebec city for thanksgiving) but will try to check when i can find a more usable platform than an ipad.

ooh turkeys

@UlrikeFischer -- only the published list in tugboat requires payment. the on-line list is free ... but it isn't vetted (i will check that when i have a chance).

Ducks are scared of turkeys, they make a lot of noise!

@PauloCereda Not when they're roasted.

@egreg oh no

12:13 PM
@PauloCereda Thanksgiving tradition!

@barbarabeeton The pricing list cleary says that the web costs too: tug.org/consultants/listing.html

yo'
12:48 PM
@egreg it is! Also, we don't call the Sunday Christ the King but rather Eternity.

@yo' Not a big difference, I'd say.

yo'
@egreg right...

@yo' In the Catholic church it's one of the 17 “solemnities”. There are other local ones, for example in Padova also St. Anthony's day is a solemnity.

yo'
@egreg yeah, it is considered quite important here too, but for the people, not as much as the Sunday after...

1:08 PM
@yo' For instance, the liturgical color was white, rather than green like in the other Sundays of the period per annum. On solemnities, the color is either white or red (only on Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Pentecost). It is purple in Advent and Lent, white in the Easter time (from Easter to Pentecost) and green otherwise. But it can be pink on the third Sunday in Advent and the fourth Sunday in Lent.

yo'
@egreg yeah, all those your colours :-D

@egreg And s/green/red/g if we have the Ambrosian rite. :)
@yo' weeeeeeee

yo'
I've got a friend -- Catholic priest (Salesian actually) who happens to be an army priest, and he wears a camouflage print stole :-)

@yo' Really? That's awesome. :) A friend of mine is a Comboni and during his passages through Amazon, he had a stole made from jute!

yo'
@PauloCereda :-) There's apparently some lady in the Czech Catholic church who sews all the stoles, and he said he had to get the cloth from the army as she didn't have it :-)

1:16 PM
@yo' ooh :)

1 hour later…
2:18 PM
@barbarabeeton and friends:
Happy Thanksgiving!
Wrong link. Now fixed. :)

1 hour later…
3:31 PM
Hey!
@yo' Hey there, I see you tried on Puzzling, hope you didn't give up on it!

yo'
3:47 PM
@Alenanno no, shall I?

@yo' Well I said I hope not :D

yo'
I mean, I don't feel to bad because someone is a ... how to say and stay nice ... :)
My other Q is I think really interesting (given the one you're referring to is the Number Parrot one...)

@yo' I got downvoted in some of mine and some good questions are downvoted too. I mean it's not like TeX SE :D
@yo' I used Latex in my questions, did you see that? :D

yo'
I know, I'm used to it from other sites...
Sorry I might be slow in replies, there's a big kebab in front of me :D

lol no worries, enjoy!
@yo' Aaaaand I just got a downvote lol I'm expecting them now.

4:40 PM
@UlrikeFischer -- okay, thanks. i'll check when i get to a more reasonable platform.
@percusse -- at the moment i'm using an ipad, which isn't conducive to accurate typing. (or easy reading, for that matter.)

user227867
5:06 PM
@barbarabeeton I am horrified that a TeX expert actually uses iPads?

user227867
@PauloCereda and @JosephWright Quack! Quack!

@JasperLoy Hi!

user227867
@PauloCereda I just watched a movie about tourists having their organs stolen in Brazil, so scary!

@JasperLoy Sadly, this practice still happens.

user227867
@PauloCereda I am very sad that Oxford has a big Portuguese dictionary but refuse to reprint their big Italian one.

user227867
5:11 PM
Also, I finally made the switch back to Windows, yay!

@JasperLoy Portuguese is a daughter of Latin.

user227867
No more Linux for me this life! Linux is not as good as I wanted it to be!

user227867
@PauloCereda Yup. So is Italian, and Italian is actually one of the closest to Latin.

@JasperLoy There might be good Italian dictionaries, @egreg can recommend one. :)

user227867
@PauloCereda Don't bother @egreg I already asked him

user227867
@PauloCereda Currently copies are selling for hundreds or thousands of dollars!

user227867
Sorry, I am not willing to pay that much for something which should be less than a hundred originally.

user227867
@PauloCereda Yes, and I would not bother reading it in the 21st century =P

@JasperLoy boo :)

user227867
5:19 PM
@PauloCereda How is your Fedora 25? It was delayed, I learnt.

@JasperLoy Very impressive release, stable. :)

user227867
Hi @samcarter I thought you were a boy at first. =P

All my three Fedora systems are now updated to F25.

@JasperLoy -- i'm away from home on holiday. i surely don't use an ipad for tex; I don't even use tex on my laptop, only on my desktop at the office, where the system is "managed". (the main part of my job is assisting authors who have questions preparing their manuscripts for publication by the ams. requires adherence to a specific, constrained environment.)

user227867
@PauloCereda I think the standards of Debian and Ubuntu have dropped, so Fedora might be better than them now.

5:21 PM
@JasperLoy I really don't follow Debian or Ubuntu, so Fedora is always in my heart. :)

user227867
@PauloCereda Let me just say that the latest release of Debian cannot start up properly on my laptop and the latest of Ubuntu cannot shut down properly at all. That is very bad.

user227867
@barbarabeeton I see. I hope you have lots of fun! I am on holiday every day actually. =P

6:13 PM
@JasperLoy I am sorry to disappoint your expectation :) However I have the impression, that without a priori knowledge your assumption is quite reasonable in the TeX-using world.

I am a duck.

user image
2
@PauloCereda My husband sent me this from his hotel chamber.

@UlrikeFischer awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
@UlrikeFischer Ducks are good at holding towels. :)

Hello!!
I want to make the diagram of subgroups for the dihedral group D6.
I have to use the following, or not?
\begin{tikzcd}
...
\end{tikzcd}

But commands do I have to use for the arrows?

@PauloCereda and good in welcoming lonely husbands ...

6:21 PM
@UlrikeFischer Is the duck a freebie? :)

@PauloCereda I don't think. It looks as if it lives there.

@UlrikeFischer Oh. :(

@PauloCereda Well you wouldn't want that we kidnap a duck from its home.

@UlrikeFischer oh the duck must remain there. :)

6:53 PM
@PauloCereda Amazing, how little i understand :-(
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0ygTyEMxDA
@PauloCereda Good thing is, i heard the first few words and thought: Wait, this isn't spanish. Sounds more like brazilian. Gotta learn some bits of that language.

1 hour later…
7:57 PM
@JasperLoy It depends. Portuguese is a much more conservative language. Even more than Spanish. We use verb tenses that are considered "old-fashioned", to say the least, in other Romance languages.

@Johannes_B sounded like German to me

@DavidCarlisle All languages sound the same anyways. :-)

@DavidCarlisle I see Frank feels siunitx is likely to attract bug reports!

@JosephWright wise man that he is

@DavidCarlisle :)
@DavidCarlisle I see even the bug system is tested :)

8:03 PM
@Joseph Tell that to the third person clitic pronouns. :)

8:19 PM
@MaryStar it's not commutative why would you use tikzcd, just a bare tikz nodes probably all you need, or some graph library assuming you mean like:

yo'
@PauloCereda do you mean that your thesis writing is a holiday?

8:49 PM
@yo' it is?

yo'
@PauloCereda well, if it is, I start to understand why locate thesis gives no results on your machine :-)

@yo' ooh

1 hour later…
10:06 PM
@yo' @PauloCereda has a way out of that: He's writing his thesis on a Mac, and locate on the Mac only searches the system dirs. :)

yo'
@AlanMunn someone shall teach Apple what an OS is :)
@PauloCereda @JosephWright Oh, two Brazillian birds and to birds called @Joseph :)

@AlanMunn I don't exactly know what you mean; in Portuguese we have próclise, ênclise, and mesóclise (if the clitic pronoun comes before, after, or in the middle of a verb...)

yo'
Hi @Joseph, how are you?

@AlanMunn No.

I'd better change my name someday... But actually my bird is the only Brazilian one; I doubt that yellow ducks are endemic here.

yo'
10:15 PM
@Joseph They are everywhere!

@yo', I mean, real, living, quacking ducks.

yo'
@Joseph these do not count :-)

@Joseph they look real to me, although they seem to have lost their cricket bats.

But @PauloCereda has done a wonderful job with the LaTeX3 and the arara logo.

yo'
@Joseph indeed! You don't need Nietzsche to observe some affection for birds here ...

10:27 PM

yo'
@StefanKottwitz this is perfect!
