Sometimes i get pinged in comments without the @name ping. Is this random, expected?

8:20 AM
@Johannes_B If you are the only one who has commented on a question, you will be automatically pinged if the OP posts a comment.

@TorbjørnT. Thanks, i didn't know that. And once again, a helpful answer from you to one of my questions here. :-)

8:38 AM
@Johannes_B The ping part is auto-stripped from comments if the thread is 'clear', so the OP might put @person only for it to vanish!

Morning @Joseph, i got pinged by your close at tex.stackexchange.com/questions/234378/…

@Johannes_B That must be a new one

9:20 AM
@clemens Thanks for providing answers.

1 hour later…
10:26 AM
hello, please
how to wirte this in the center with numerotation
\begin{cases}
-\Delta_{p}(u)=\lambda_1 |x|^{\theta}|u|^{q-2} u+f(x,u)-h ~~\text{in}~\Omega,\\
u\in W^{1,p}_0(\Omega).
\end{cases}

@Vrouvrou \begin{equation}\begin{cases}...\end{cases}\end{equation}

it is not in the center

11:02 AM
@Vrouvrou By default it will be, so you have modified that somehow, e.g. by adding fleqn as an option to the documentclass or amsmath.

i have amsmath
i must delete it ?

@Vrouvrou No, that's not what I said. Do you have fleqn in the options to either the documentclass or amsmath? I.e., do you have \documentclass[fleqn]{...}, or \usepackage[fleqn]{amsmath}?

\documentclass[12pt,oneside,fleqn]{book}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[french]{babel}
\usepackage{hyperref}
\hypersetup{colorlinks=true, linkcolor=blue, urlcolor=blue}
\usepackage{caption}
\usepackage{amsfonts,amsmath,amssymb,amsthm,mathrsfs}
\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\textwidth=16.5truecm \textheight=23truecm
\hoffset=-2cm \voffset=-1.8cm
\newtheorem{theorem}{Théorème}[chapter]
\newtheorem{corollary}{Corollaire}[chapter]
\newtheorem{definition}{Définition}[chapter]
this is what i have

@Vrouvrou see your first line fleqn means flush left equations

Ahh
how i can correct this please ?

11:08 AM
@Vrouvrou delete fleqn

@Vrouvrou Remove fleqn ..

good
thank you
i have the numerotation (0.01) how to do to obtain
(1)

@Vrouvrou remove \numberwithin{equation}{section}

right
thank you

@Vrouvrou And don't use templates like that, which has several errors (for instance, acting on \hoffset and \voffset)

11:12 AM
ok, and what is the right thing to do ? please

hi there
I do not want non-whole bib entries in my beamer slides so tried to follow tex.stackexchange.com/questions/28/…
it suggests putting \interlinepenalty=10000 into the .bbl file -- I did it but still there is a page break in some bib entries
what else could I do to make latex to typeset full bibliography items on a page?

11:32 AM
@Vrouvrou Remove the lines from \hoffset up to \textheight and change them into \usepackage[a4paper,textwidth=16.5cm,textheight=23cm]{geometry}
@Vrouvrou Note that there are other settings to the parameters that should be removed as well.

the rsult is not good

@Vrouvrou The package t1enc is obsolete, remove its call; you already have \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} that takes care of the same business.

the result using \usepackage[a4paper,textwidth=16.5cm,textheight=23cm]{geometry}
is not good
@egreg
it is not the same as before

@Vrouvrou You have \hoffset,\voffset, \textheight and \textwidth two places, did you remove both?

\documentclass[12pt,oneside]{book}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[french]{babel}
\usepackage{hyperref}
\hypersetup{colorlinks=true, linkcolor=blue, urlcolor=blue}
\usepackage{caption}
\usepackage{amsfonts,amsmath,amssymb,amsthm,mathrsfs}
\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\newtheorem{theorem}{Théorème}[chapter]
\newtheorem{corollary}{Corollaire}[chapter]
\newtheorem{definition}{Définition}[chapter]
\newtheorem{lemma}{Lemme}[chapter]
\newtheorem{proposition}{Proposition}[chapter]
i remove it

11:41 AM
@Vrouvrou Here it is
\documentclass[12pt,oneside,fleqn]{book}

\usepackage[a4paper,textwidth=16.5cm,textheight=23cm,bindingoffset=1cm]{geometry}

\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage[french]{babel}

\usepackage{caption}
\usepackage{amsfonts,amsmath,amssymb,amsthm,mathrsfs}
\usepackage{fancyhdr}

\usepackage{hyperref}
\hypersetup{colorlinks=true, linkcolor=blue, urlcolor=blue}

\newtheorem{theorem}{Théorème}[chapter]
\newtheorem{corollary}{Corollaire}[chapter]
\newtheorem{definition}{Définition}[chapter]
@Vrouvrou Of course you'll want to remove the fleqn option as per the discussion above.

what is lipsum ?
please

@Vrouvrou It's just a package for producing nonsense text, so we can look at the formatting without having to fill in real text. It's just needed for looking at the example.

ok thank you
is there other remarks ?

@Vrouvrou The hyperref package should be last, with your setting (only a few packages need to be loaded later than hyperref). As you see, I did it so.

thank you
@egreg please if i want to call an equation not by a number but by a letter how can i do this
?

11:59 AM
@Vrouvrou \renewcommand\theequation{\alph{equation}}

just one equation not all

@Vrouvrou \tag{A}

good tnk you

Sported by a discussion. Is there a way to tell LaTeX generally that it is ok to hyphenate words with - in them? We have many in Danish, and usually we have to use Danish babel and mark each - using "- or "=.

yo'
@daleif short answer: No. long answer: Nothing stops you from making - active, with the exception of all the things that it breaks.

@yo' that was exactly my point in this particular discussion.

3:12 PM
@JosephWright see this? tex.stackexchange.com/a/234789
  \count@=127%
  \@whilenum\count@<255 \do{%

@DavidCarlisle I'm seeing a wrong %

@JosephWright ^^ I should get @egreg to mark the beamer sources for correct use of % at ends of lines
@egreg as I was typing....

@JosephWright What's the code line count at the moment?

@egreg vvv
$ grep "[0-9]%" *sty | wc -l
113

@DavidCarlisle Not counting all other wrong usages or omissions of %

3:16 PM
@egreg got to start somewhere;-)

This looks like a very strong TeX user
@DavidCarlisle Did you measure my reaction time? ;-)

yo'
@daleif for a short list of things you certainly break: TikZ, \cline and \cmidrule, probably any KV options relying on it, you'll have troubles with recognizing -- and --- properly, moreover since some fonts don't use the ligatures and you need to detect this somehow. Conclusion: Bad idea.

@daleif that's why the T1 encoding has two slots for a hyphen, in theory you can make the normal ascii hyphen a normal letter (and use it in patterns) and use the one in "7F as hyphenchar, but actually I think it turned out to be harder than planned to make this work well, and I don't see it used much

3:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle For instance, an interface for adding the setting to the fonts is missing, so one has to modify fd files instead.

@egreg well you could just patch \fontencoding to set the hyphchar for T1, but you then need to load patterns into the format that are expecting that, and no one likes making custom formats these days, and the ec fonts at least make the extra hyphen different (not sure about other T1 encoded fonts)

@yo' exactly
@DavidCarlisle It was also just meant as a question of what to answer when people ask. It appears strange for some users that hyphens in words have to be marked specially. I usually blame it on the English heritage and reply that it is build in and not recommended to attempt to change.

@daleif yes probably wise. I think the main problem with T1's extra hyphen is that if you allow a break at - it puts the extra hyphenchar after it as it considers it a letter, or if you specify patterns to stop hyphenation at - it never breaks at that point, so it doesn't really work as you want. luatex??

yo'
Does anybody know what is the role of - as a babel shorthand in Czech?

3:49 PM
@yo' Um normally I'd ask you...
@yo' oh so it does this, while trying to keep -- working. Does it work?

yo'
@DavidCarlisle I don't know, I haven't used [czech]{babel} for ages, and IIRC, when I used it, the first thing I did was \addto\extrasczech{\shorthandoff{-}} :D

4:05 PM
@DavidCarlisle T1 encoded fonts built with fontinst should be OK.
@yo' Making a mess with \cmidrule and \cline? ;-)
@yo' I think it is meant to do what @daleif would like.
@yo' Do texdoc babel-czech and go at page 8

@egreg wow I never thought of that, I just loaded czech.ldf into emacs and searched for {-}

@DavidCarlisle After all, code documentation is not strictly a manual.
3
@yo' Of course, anybody trying to do \vspace{-\baselineskip} with Czech active, will be very happy.

yo'
@egreg yeah

4:22 PM
@yo' Allowing hyphenation in compound words should be done manually, in my opinion, only if there's no better alternative; but maybe I'm biased because Italian and English have very few compound words.

yo'
4:38 PM
@egreg And you think Czech has many? I'd say that English has more of them since you often make them on-the-fly ;)

@yo' For instance one should type \mbox{on-the-fly}.

yo'
@egreg probably, yes. (Or using the proper ngerman shorthand.) I would actually allow breaking this if there were no way around it. Like I allowed just now a break in by G.~Surname<break>\cite{S}. because the paragraph contains just too many citations not to break before at least one.
Beautiful.

Q: I need to write the formulas in the shared link

Farzad64Please help me to write the formulas in this link thank you so much

5:34 PM
@DavidCarlisle Do I need to come up with a new solution or is your suggestion a general fix (haven't read detail yet)
@egreg @DavidCarlisle 'A lot': as I say quite often, I do know why Till Tantau decided not to work on beamer any more

@JosephWright no my solution wasn't a fix at all it just undid the change so the OPs old presentation worked, it's just while I was looking for where that change was I noticed the coding style was "interesting" in parts;-)

@DavidCarlisle I have a policy with beamer of only changing what I absolutely have to in terms of bug fixes or new features: much of the code should really be entirely rewritten

@JosephWright well the \count@127% I quote above is a definite bug as it then immediately does \ifnum\count@ which could do anything...

@DavidCarlisle But it doesn't :-)
@DavidCarlisle Seriously, I don't change any of this stuff unless there is a clear breakage

@JosephWright well it does \@whilenum which is same thing

5:45 PM
@DavidCarlisle My point is: can you point to a beamer bug in the output that is caused by this. If not I'm not changing it!

@JosephWright I probably could but since my diet for last couple of days has been tea and paracetamol, I don't think looking too hard at the beamer sources would improve things, so I'll pass;-)

@DavidCarlisle :-)
@DavidCarlisle beamer is a real pain to maintain, but I don't see any other volunteers

Q: How become a mathematical expression from latex code to maxima code?

anton valedeshow become a mathematical expression from latex code to maxima code? for example convert \frac{8x^3-4x-2}{2x} in latex to (8*x^3-4*x-2)(2*x) in maxima but automatically tnx

7:03 PM
@egreg, @DavidCarlisle On that beamer thing, I'm tempted to WONTFIX and document as at present
\documentclass{beamer}
\begin{document}

\begin{frame}[fragile]
  \begin{verbatim}
    \begin{frame}

    \end{frame}
  \end{verbatim}
\end{frame}

\end{document}
works while
\documentclass{beamer}
\begin{document}

  \begin{frame}[fragile]
  \begin{verbatim}
    #
  \end{verbatim}
  \end{frame}

\end{document}
doesn't
A 'fix' would seem to need detection of the indent of the \begin line, but that's not doable of course
@egreg, @DavidCarlisle Thoughts welcome
BTW, I will address the \count business

@JosephWright Indenting \begin{frame} is nonsense anyway. ;-)

@egreg Well yes
@egreg Really the fact that tabs used to work is more luck than judgement (if TeX90 had catcode tables Till would have picked up tab in the first place)
@egreg I'm working out what is the 'best' approach, really, hence asking for input

@JosephWright I simply can't understand why people indents everything inside \begin{document}. Or why editors do it automatically. My editor is set up to never indent.

@egreg I know not everyone likes indenting :-)

@JosephWright Even if you count the number of spaces before \begin{frame}, there's no guarantee it will be the same at \end{frame}. Maybe the user has a TAB in one place and spaces in the other.

7:10 PM
@egreg I do indent, but not inside document as it's really a rather special case
@egreg Also true: was simply thinking what might be possible approaches
@egreg Will go with documenting situation

7:23 PM
@egreg Checked source for docs: it already says the line has to be on its own

7:57 PM
@JosephWright seems reasonable to me
@JosephWright \RequirePackage[2014/01/01]{latexrelease}\documentclass{beamer} ? :-)

Hi all.
Could anybody have a look at the problem, I get this error: LaTeX Error: Command \CYRT unavailable in encoding EU1.
However, I use UTF8 encoding, so I am a bit confused.

@mikeonly are you using inputenc with xetex?

@DavidCarlisle Inputenc and LaTeX.

Stuck in a bus heading back home.

@mikeonly never use inputenc with xelatex or lualatex

8:07 PM
XeLaTeX, frankly speaking.
Why?

@mikeonly because it doesn't work:-)

@DavidCarlisle Is everything ok with babel then? Or should I use polyglossia instead?

@mikeonly inputenc assumes that it gets the characters 1 byte at a time, and merges groups of 2 or three to internal commands to access 8bit fonts, none of what it does is useful with xetex which assumes utf8 anyway
@mikeonly as far as I know either babel or polyglossia should work, some languages have better support in one or the other

:20722212, oh, I see. Thanks. It still returns an error as I remove inputenc.

@mikeonly remove any aux or toc files which will be corrupt
@PauloCereda would you rather be ejected from a bus?

8:12 PM
@DavidCarlisle Well, I don't have them, or at least they are hidden. I use Texpad which makes all the compilation instead of me.

yo'
@mikeonly here come all the problems.

@yo' Should I compile everything myself?

@mikeonly they must be somewhere, just delete them, or rename the top level file so the aux get the new name

yo'
@mikeonly well, hiding auxiliary files is the first mistake those "smart" editors do.
@PauloCereda oh :(

@DavidCarlisle So there was some kind of cache mistake?

8:17 PM
@mikeonly the whole point of aux files is that they are written on one run to be read on the next, so cross references get resolved, but if you have an error that causes corrupt ones to be written then it is read back at the start of the next run and you get the error every time

@DavidCarlisle thanks
@PauloCereda Has somebody eventually written an idealogical book on LaTeX?

I cantvrwriteindsonashakingvbussrifhtrightnow
3

@DavidCarlisle So I tried to build the file myself and one of packages I use requires XeTeX to function. How should I specify that?

@mikeonly use xelatex not latex

8:28 PM
@DavidCarlisle How?
@DavidCarlisle Sorry, I have been pampered for too long by a "top" editor.

@mikeonly if the file is called foo.tex type xelatex foo to the commandline (but any tex editor should have a menu option for that)

@PauloCereda the pdf version on what reader?

@Frank: PDF with Adobe Reader in a Galaxy Tab 10.1 :)

is that big enough? I would have thought something like the epub/kindle version would actually be better on such screens
of course the pdf looks nice but ...

@PauloCereda Is it running OK?

8:35 PM
@egreg so far so good. :)

@PauloCereda Check for police stations.

@Frank: I have the epub format on my iPad and to be honest I am somehow more inclined to the PDF version. But epub looks great.

yo'
If only he realized how wrong he is?!
i am writing a thesis and i need write it like this, Thank you! — Luis Felipe Villavicencio Lpez 3 mins ago

@PauloCereda the pdf gives you TeX quality and my handcrafted pagebreaks :-)

@DavidCarlisle Ok, thanks. I managed to do it with Sublime Text.
There still some errors left: /usr/local/texlive/2014/texmf-dist/tex/generic/babel-ukraineb/ukraineb.ldf:136: Package babel Warning: No input encoding specified for Ukrainian language on input line 136.
Isn't it that XeLaTeX determine encoding itself?

yo'
8:42 PM
@mikeonly that's a good question!

@mikeonly oops that means the babel Ukrainian option probably isn't expecting xelatex, you might need to make a small example and ask a question on site

@DavidCarlisle I'll try polyglossia then

@PauloCereda the best bit of the book

yo'
@PauloCereda that's you on the photo? and your sky?

8:45 PM
@David: <3

@yo' his secret's out, he's not really a duck

@yo' yours truly. :) It was quite complicated to hold everything in my hands while in a shaking bus.

@PauloCereda selfi ith a mirror?

@PauloCereda I know the feeling. The best is the big bump just as I'm releasing the trackpad when making a screenshot with Windows' Snipping Tool. :-D

@yo' this is a selfie. :)
Oh I meant @FrankMittelbach. :)
I am in the bus coming back home from São Paulo.

8:52 PM
@PauloCereda but what did you use to get both and unimportant part of TLC and yourself on the screen ... a second smartphone?

@FrankMittelbach: Moto Razr i. :)
And I also have my laptop for a very hipster selfie. :)

and a bunch of guitars ... your ecconomy must be great

@FrankMittelbach: nein :)
I travel a lot, so I was in need of a good smartphone. :)

@PauloCereda nein was? I thought you have several?

@FrankMittelbach: our economy is the problem. :) I have a couple of guitars indeed. :)

9:02 PM
Hi
I have the following error message in my latex file.
! You can't use `macro parameter character #' in horizontal mode.
before 10 minutes everything was fine. suddenly when I wanted to compile my latex file the above error appeared

@barznjy you can't use # except for its use as #1,... #2 etc in command definitions

yo'
@PauloCereda oh :)
just tell me what's this fashion of wearing beards

@yo' something to do with human biology: they grow

yo'
@DavidCarlisle ever heard of razors?

@DavidCarlisle I don't have # symbol in my file.

9:10 PM
@yo' once I was old enough to have to shave every day I decided it was a pointless waste of time and stopped:-)
@barznjy tex disagrees:-)

Wow, everything works!

yo'
@mikeonly I lol'd

@yo' I forgot to shave. :)

yo'
@DavidCarlisle well, could be some forgotten } in tabular or mistakes like that
@PauloCereda excuses excuses excuses

@mikeonly it happens sometimes that my suggestions work:-)

9:16 PM
@DavidCarlisle polyglossia and random lines from the Internet, thanks though!

yo'
A quickie: Is \ifx sensitive to \long?

@yo' yes

yo'
@DavidCarlisle ok thanks

I have some more questions if you don't mind.

yo'
@mikeonly well, unless they are (a) trivial or (b) really interesting, it's better to ask on the site than to misuse the chat.

9:22 PM
Oh, hm.
One is concerning tabularx package.

@mikeonly bound to be user error, can't possibly be a bug

Everything works good, though I want to change a column type inside a table.
Consider the table:
A & B & C \\
1 & 2 & 3 \\
11 & 2 & 3 \\
111 & 2 & 3 \\
I want first column in 2–4 row to be aligned right, while others cells have left alignment.
May be a silly assumption, but can I have several tabular's near each other with different cell types?

>{\raggedleft}X*{2}{>{\raggedright\arraybackaslash}X}

@DavidCarlisle I need some time to perceive that.

yo'
@mikeonly have you opened the manual of tabularx? It's on page 2 !!!

9:28 PM
@mikeonly the > notation comes from the array package (loaded by tabularx) so texdoc array
@yo' does tabularx have a manual? how thoughtful of its author!

yo'
@DavidCarlisle your manual to tabularx contains exactly the example you give above :)
@DavidCarlisle To the surprise of many end users, all packages come with a manual that answers most of their issues.

@mikeonly yes but you will have a local copy installed with your latex system

@DavidCarlisle How can I find them locally?

@mikeonly I'd expect a tex editor to have a help menu or on the commandline type texdoc tabularx

9:34 PM
@DavidCarlisle Interesting, thanks.
Are you referring to a section 4.2?

@mikeonly yes I guess that's what @yo' meant

@DavidCarlisle Hm, well. I have read it a lot of times, maybe it's because I am not good enough in English, but I could possibly get that it addresses my problem!

@mikeonly yes it must help to be English when all the documentation is written that way, sorry about that

@DavidCarlisle I read lots of literature and articles in English, though LaTeX manuals are the most challenging.
Even with you example given, @DavidCarlisle, I cannot get how to change my table in such a way. :C
Sorry.

@mikeonly If you replace the {XXX} in your initial file with what I suggested it should just work, but this is why it's better to ask questions as a question on site where you can format a real code example, and lots more people are available to answer

9:47 PM
@DavidCarlisle It takes much longer to compose a question than receive it.

Another Yearling badge!

@egreg you're getting older

yo'
@egreg and it seems that I missed Tumbleweed (one of the rarest ones on TeX.SX) by 4 hours :-(
@egreg also, I don't understand how YOU manage to get 200 rep a year.

@yo' who reads manuals these days (or ever) if you can ask?
@mikeonly that's but it takes also egreg, David, etc much more time to repeately answering the same questions on chat if people can't find them there
@mikeonly so it is a give and take

10:02 PM
@FrankMittelbach I just don't know what is worth asking on site! :(

@mikeonly Everything is worth asking, the community takes action by suggesting dupes etc. Fire away ;-)

@mikeonly anything that is a problem for you and can't be found by looking at the site questions/answers (search usualy works not too badly) and preferably somethign with a nice "minimal working example" showing your problem

@yo' Ehm, it's 91094 per year. :P

and preferably a sensible question title, ie not "I have a problem with LaTeX" :-)

@FrankMittelbach Like my problem is ostensibly accounted for in tabularx manual, though I still don't how to solve it. Is it me or LaTeX is challenging?

10:06 PM
@mikeonly I wouldn't know the answer to the first one :-) on the second, LaTeX can be sometimes a bit challenging

@mikeonly Depends, running a nuclear power plant needs some knowledge first, same with LaTeX. Disclaimer: Results may differ.

and to face it not all documentation is good (surely David's a an exception)
one of the reasons we wrote the LaTeX Companion, to bring some order into the documentation by reducing it in some sense and providing it in different ways (not alway successful, necessarily but that was the intend)

yo'
@mikeonly Asking questions that "are answered in the manual" is maybe not something that gives you a golden badge, but it's certainly not a bad behaviour.

@FrankMittelbach My point is that even though some manuals are be better than others, they still lack a comprehensive data on building blocks of packages, solely examples and ‘you can use this and this’ which is obviously great, but it doesn't handle possible questions.

@mikeonly I would certainly be interested in getting your opinion on that in more detail. Do you know TLC2?

yo'
10:12 PM
Just an example I answered recently: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/234881/… Without the proper MWE and a clear question, it would be very difficult to answer. With them, it took me something like 3 minutes to get the solution and 3 minutes to write the answer. That's why answering proper questions -- even basic ones -- is simpler on the site than in the chat.

@FrankMittelbach I am afraid I don't.

@FrankMittelbach Oh, the book. I know it not as an abbreviation.
@FrankMittelbach Of course, yes.
@FrankMittelbach I cannot afford it, unfortunately.

10:32 PM
@mikeonly $25?

@FrankMittelbach Average salary in Ukraine is $125 per month.
Furthermore, I am a student.

@mikeonly ok that's a problem ... world economy is not quite balanced

@FrankMittelbach Yep.

@mikeonly student of what?

@yo' Now it's clear why you are so low rep: it takes very long answering questions! :P

10:40 PM
@Frank: one of my plans when in Darmstadt was to lure you and David to sign my copy of TLC. :)

@PauloCereda the ebook? ;-)

yo'
@FrankMittelbach LOL
btw, isn't this annoying? :-/

@egreg: I need to keep my status and write duck-related answers. :)

yo'

@yo' why? I happy take a pen and sign on his Galaxy? All the musicians I asked to sign also sign on their CDs

10:42 PM
@Frank: I was originally thinking of the physical book, but it would be interesting to have a signed ebook. :)

yo'
@FrankMittelbach (I hope there's no misunderstanding, annoying is the super-river of ands)
@FrankMittelbach you can engrave the signature in the display :D

@FrankMittelbach: permanent dry marker. :)

@yo' Murphy's law

@PauloCereda that was my thought

yo'
@egreg well, this is the submit version. The one on arXiv will be quite different (different papersize). So I think I'll leave it be for now.

10:44 PM
@yo' not sure I'm following ... yes I see the annoying river (I actually I think the word "and" in front is much worse) but what has this to do with me?

@yo' But, maybe, if you fix the typo in “This allows use” …

yo'
@egreg ah well it's one letter, but it could make a difference
@FrankMittelbach well, your message "why? I happy take a pen ..." was marked as an answer to that message.

@FrankMittelbach: or my hand duck puppet. :) I thought we could give him a name in the TUG conference.

@yo' The line is quite loose

@yo' oops was meant for Paulo probably on the line before ... but he caught it anyway

10:51 PM
@FrankMittelbach I study applied physics in Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

@mikeonly send me an email if you find the time

yo'
@egreg but still, no chance.

@FrankMittelbach Where can I find your email?

@FrankMittelbach I am also interested in making LaTeX available for low budget guys without access to TLC and similar. Interested in an open chat here on site?
@mikeonly Try the doc of multicol and several other packages ;-)

@mikeonly now that's my midnight puzzle for you
@Johannes_B you are not supposed to give that away

10:55 PM
@FrankMittelbach Oh, i spoiled it. Sorry :-)

@Johannes_B Guess I'm the wrong person for that (and not tonight anyway) --- there is a big difference between different ecconomics where prices have totally different meanings and do not translate - example $125 for monthly income - and there are the huge groups of people who just want each and everything for free without bothering to participate in creating value or providing something in exchange .. it is fairly difficult to feed the second type when trying to support the first

yo'
@egreg I managed to squeeze it all, so now I've got a river of ands at the ends of the lines :)

@yo' run it twice through google translate over different languages and you should be fine

yo'
@FrankMittelbach I don't have to, I've got @David.

@FrankMittelbach Quite honest, after an evening in the students club, i am a litlle bit fuzzy myself. And i didn't finish your article on the LPPL in Tugboat yet. Let me come back to that ;-)

11:02 PM
@yo' you mean he scrambles it for you? I suggested it to remove the rivers
something like English -> Japanese -> German -> English

yo'
@FrankMittelbach he is our hero!

good for him :-)

yo'
@FrankMittelbach yeah, my friend gave an interview in English during a conference in Nepal. In a newspaper, the interview was in the local language and in Scramglish.

I guess I pack it in ... don't know how many tries I had tot get vertical spacing and balancing improved in multicol the last days ... finally resorted to stuff like this:\skip0=0pt
\edef\the@zero@skip{\the\skip0}
\def\remove@discardable@items{%
\unpenalty
\edef\@tempa{\the\lastskip}%
\ifx\@tempa\the@zero@skip
\else \unskip
\expandafter \remove@discardable@items \fi}
what a beautiful piece of crap ... but it seems to actually do the trick
@Johannes_B actually I wanted to write "not to feed" .. really to close the lid

11:25 PM
@FrankMittelbach Can I write you on Google+? :)
