@HeikoOberdiek OK situation seems to be that there is no README in what we submitted all the directories have 00readme.txt except tools which (for some reason) has readme.txt. My understanding was that the CTAN interface wanted a README so that the files were copied or linked by the ctan maintainers. We could of course make a copy in the zip files submitted but the ctan download instructions don't seem to say that's needed?

@DavidCarlisle Talk to your team and to the CTAN managers. I do not mind, how it is called, if there is a clear naming convention. Three different names in different combinations does not look like a robust way to go. It would be nice, if you can clarify this. Let me know, which name I should use in latex-tds.

@HeikoOberdiek yes it could be more consistent but as far as I can see it's been that way since forever (I'd talk to them but I guess they are not up mostly, I'll try) I don't see any need to change now. Only thing that's different this time is that the files have in some case been moved rather than copied to make README on the ctan archive, after submission. I think latex-tds should use the file names as submitted

@DavidCarlisle The names in the subversion repository?

@HeikoOberdiek yes we just zipped then up and submitted, which is 00readme.txt except tools which is readme.txt README works in the ctan interface but not so well in the installed filesystem if windows (and we had complaints last century) so we used .txt I don't think we noticed before that ctan copied back to README until this time when the files were moved rather than copied

@DavidCarlisle Sigh, I will try to sort out the mess in latex-tds.

12:14 AM
@WendiKidd I just spent an hour getting a new tikz running on my machine so I could try to provide the OP with an edit to his question. @DavidCarlisle, do you want to delete your answer, maybe?

@HeikoOberdiek sorry about that, I must admit I didn't realize that texlive was using your re-packaging until this week, I thought they pulled straight from ctan. If we had a spec of what they wanted, we could probably make it at same time as submission. Anyway I'll mail ctan@ and ask what they want with README (and to put 00readme.txt back in cyrillic)
@AndyClifton Hmm I might, although I don't think it needs deleting particularly, need to sort out ^^ first

@DavidCarlisle Someone hast to sort the files into the right directories and generate decent documentation files with bookmarks and links ...

@HeikoOberdiek yes sure but I thought (in general) they had rules that pulled stuff from ctan and packed as necessary, it's presumably not normal (or fair on you, really) for a package to be individually re-packaged and re-submitted for texlive use by someone else is it? (perhaps it is:-)

@DavidCarlisle It started with source2e.pdf. It is a huge file for navigating without links and bookmarks. Now soon LaTeX2e will go back to hibernation ... ;-), thus updates are not too frequent. The LaTeX3 documentation has decent files with bookmarks (AFAIK thanks to Joseph).

@DavidCarlisle probably a better use of your time. Anyway, I really should go mow that lawn. Goodnight, all.

12:35 AM
@HeikoOberdiek mail sent (you should have a copy)
@HeikoOberdiek yes source2e was the biggest tex document Id seen when I first made it:-) The original constraint was that core stuff should only use itself not any contrib packages (as originally there were none:-) obviously that;s less of a concern now as distributions ensure that a much bigger set than core is commonly available but it's still not a bad thing to aim for I think otherwise bootstrapping a new distribution without assuming you have an existing distribution available is harder.

No more buses today, so I had to improvise. :(

@PauloCereda walk?

@David: São Paulo to home? It might take a while. Maybe by the end of June. :)

@PauloCereda but think how fit you'd be when you got there.

I had to catch a bus that goes on a not so nearby location, get off the bus half way then get a ride home. I hope to arrive home at 3AM. :)
@David: don't say that to my mom, I am already underweight. :)

12:48 AM
@PauloCereda oops well hope your trip goes well from now on:-0

I have a netbook without a TeX distro. What am I sppose to do? Write C code? Bah. :)
@David: things are under control. :) I'm strong, I can even open pickle jars. :P

@PauloCereda install emacs of course

@David: I have it installed, the icon is near the Vim one, of course. :)

1:03 AM
@PauloCereda ooh well that's a start at least, you're obviously picking up some good habits in São Paulo
@PauloCereda so you can make the journey seem shorter with M-x doctor

Does anyone know where can I get the TrueType Helvetc Neue with Helvetica Neue UltraLight, Helvetica Neue Condensed Bold, and Helvetica Neue Light?
Nevermind. I found it.

Whelp, there goes the rest of my potential for productivity.
On the brighter side of things, I won't have to close 40+ TeX.SX tabs every time I want to, well, clear out tabs from Safari. (Might be a little OCD.)

@LaRiFaRi Yup, your solution was correct. I've sent a new version with hopefully slightly better documentation to CTAN. Best I can do for now! (Would like to revamp a few of Peter's old packages with LaTeX3 idioms… need a rainy day.)

Wait a minute. Eggplant = aubergine?!

@PauloCereda aubergine in English:-)

@DavidCarlisle It's what a post is telling me. :)

@DavidCarlisle Which mirror?
@WillRobertson A bit more 'LaTeX time' available at the moment?

@JosephWright any of these except the one I was using (in cz :-) hmc.edu tug.org/texlive/mirmon

11:21 AM
@DavidCarlisle I use the cz one

@JosephWright yes I was too so I had to use --repository to pull from the US just now

@DavidCarlisle For latex-tds I found a way. CTAN is not yet fixed. I hope, you are well rested?

@HeikoOberdiek :) Just because Frank's getting old doesn't mean that some of us can't still work late

@DavidCarlisle :-)

@HeikoOberdiek at some point we should work out a better protocol. In particular one thing we probably want to do is decouple tools a bit (as has already been done with babel) so it can have its own update cycle, we moved a bit that way giving some of the packages like longtable their own .ins. but if I ever get round to updating longtable, if it doesn't get to texlive unless you repackage everything that doesn't really help. No rush as changes are not imminent
@HeikoOberdiek probably we should have a discussion on latex-l about what for is best for you and whether we should do more first (eg use your luatex/hyperref/ setup to make the documents. I don't know, just thinking alout about which bits of this update went less smoothly than hoped

@DavidCarlisle As I started latex-tds, LaTeX was already very frozen. The LaTeX team members are supposed to work on LaTeX3, aren't they? Of course it would be nice, if the LaTeX team can provide decent documentation and .tds.zip files. If I can see this on CTAN for some module some day, then latex-tds has reached its goal and I can disable the module.
@DavidCarlisle Regarding the delay: Karl is not so patient. If I can update latex-tds timely, then he prefers it (AFAIK less work for him), otherwise he installs it from CTAN.
@DavidCarlisle If you really plan to make (parts of) latex-tds obsolete, there is a public repository for latex-tds: github.com/oberdiek/latex-tds

@HeikoOberdiek I am working on LaTeX3 :-)

@HeikoOberdiek yes I was reading your doc this morning. In some abstract sense it's wrong that you have to repackage everything and we should to do it, but practically speaking you've got a system working well and if we just jump in we'll probably break it:-) But does mean that the system is very fragile in that any changes we make we need to flag with you (and I simply wasn't aware of that need earlier, sorry).

@HeikoOberdiek You try getting @DavidCarlisle to finish xor ;-)

@DavidCarlisle Yes, this is the disadvantage, that I do not catch all changes. And I would not have approached the project, if it LaTeX2e have been a "living" project with many changes in short time. Now I have setup the subversion version of LaTeX. Also the last LaTeX release was three years ago (2011/06/27), thus the next is probably due in four years, more or less.
@JosephWright You should rename the project. xor contains or that always leaves a choice. ;-)

@HeikoOberdiek for the format, probably that long, but tools maybe earlier (I may want to update longtable this year:-) Going through the bug database for this time it was clear it needed an update but that I couldn't do it in time so I deferred them all...

@HeikoOberdiek muhaha

@PauloCereda (as the parsing/Lua expert) I'm adding some highlighting to TeXworks for Lua code. So far, I've got:
# Comments
red          Y    --.*

# Strings
green        N    (?:\"(?:[^\"\\]|\\[\s\S])*(?:\"|$)|\'(?:[^\'\\]|\\[\s\S])*(?:\'|$))
green        N    \[(=*)\[[\s\S]*(?:\]\1\]|$)

# Keywords
blue		     N    (?:and|break|do|else|elseif|end|false|for|function|if|in|local|nil|not|or|repeat|return|then|true|until|while)\b

# Numbers
darkblue		N	[+-]?(?:0x[\da-f]+|(?:(?:\.\d+|\d+(?:\.\d*)?)(?:e[+\-]?\d+)?))
based on code.google.com/p/google-code-prettify/source/browse/trunk/src/… but with restrictions: (1) no lazy capture and (2) highlighting works line-by-line
Any comments?

1:55 PM
@JosephWright ooh I'll take a look.
I was cutting my hair. :)
While my system finds duplicate files on a 1TB harddrive. Quite fun.

@JosephWright regarding #2, I think we might need multiline regex, but I'm not sure. And #1, we probably need to get rid of some greedy parts, probably the ones with the positive Kleene closure.

@PauloCereda Like I say, the way things are set up in TeXworks I've no hope of highlighting e.g a multi-line comment (the regex engine does work, but not in the context of highlighting)

2:14 PM
@JosephWright Ah.

@PauloCereda use vim? :-)

@DavidCarlisle :-)

@DavidCarlisle Now that you mentioned it, yes. :)

A: Mavericks upgrade screwed up my pdflatex (command not found)

Ben ComanThe document I am working on has a compile system that runs pdflatex and I hit the same problem. I just downloaded and installed MacTex on Mavericks, which added /usr/texbin to my PATH, which contains 23 links to pdftex, however pdflatex is not one of them. The following fixed it for me: cd /us...

wut

@PauloCereda Fixed the markup, don't know why the install would be wrong

@JosephWright I don't get why linking pdftex to pdflatex.

2:43 PM
@PauloCereda no linking pdflatex to pdftex

@DavidCarlisle Ouch you are right, target/source.
Actually, source/target. :P

@PauloCereda you can't really expect a vim user to understand unix

@DavidCarlisle says teh guy who uses Cygwin. :)
@David: I heard they are rewriting vim inside emacs. Apparently emacs will finally get a decent editor. :)

@PauloCereda and makes symbolic links that Joseph's bat files don't understand, so they think I haven't got latex installed :(

@DavidCarlisle :(

@PauloCereda M-x shell command sed is the only editor you need really (actually that's pretty much vi isn't it?

Q: Block matrix equation with dimensioning

Ganesh DiwanI need to write following matrix equation in LaTex. The dotted lines shown need to be present in the structure but need not have colors (could as well be black). I have used it here only to show the alignment needed. I also need to have the dimensions specified for various blocks as shown. What's...

@DavidCarlisle LOL

Any kitten-slayer on board?

@percusse Oh no!

Q: Drawing 3D crystal lattice with tikz/pstricks

IohannI need to draw 3D lattice of DO3 type (Ni-Mn-Al, DO3) and more complex ones. Both TiKZ and PSTricks packages draw following objects on top of previously drawn disregarding "real" 3D position. For example, on this picture 2 red atoms on the right cover white ones, when they shouldn't. \documentcl...

@subhamsoni Doesn't seem to be included in MiKTeX

Now what should I do?

Q: Using Asymptote with MiKTeX

SperavirAsymptote is shipped out with TeX Live, but not with MiKTeX, not even with a full installation. Do you nonetheless know a way for manual installation? Short tour today; I went to see the museum of Canova at Possagno museocanova.it/index.php?lang=en where the models of his sculptures are kept. I also went to Asolo, a nice well preserved old town.

@egreg Nice

@JosephWright Have you ever seen “The Graces” by Canova at the Victoria and Albert Museum?

@egreg No
@egreg Never been to the V&A

@JosephWright I've been several times!
This is another masterpiece of Canova; it's in Wien, in the Augustinerkirche

@egreg awesome
no words to express

4:29 PM
@subhamsoni He liked so much that funerary monument that he wanted the same as his own tomb, which is in Venice at the Frari church
It's one of the most beautiful churches in Venice; it also has a big painting by Tiziano.

Never got a change to move out of India :(
Which is the best place to visit in the World

@subhamsoni I'm sure it is!
@subhamsoni But you should really see Venice. ;-)

Hmmm great :)
done

@AndrewStacey: I'd love for you to undelete your answer to the rollercoaster question. I understand your frustration, that bounty reason is rather irritating, but your answer is really good and could be useful for others. Do it for them!

@Jake yes yes yes!
Not the mention the all caps and the double underline thingy like my dad used to do in his typewriter.

@PauloCereda =)

@Jake I'd love to see Mark's answer in a Möbius strip. :)

@PauloCereda Nothin' to it but to do it! You'll get my upvote for sure

@Jake Now wait for @percusse putting a TikZ train in that path with the punch line Choo choo motherf***er. :)

7:55 PM
@PauloCereda Hehe

@percusse: sir you are being summoned.
:)

8:05 PM
@Jake I believe that the bounty reason should be edited as soon as possible: it's simply ridiculous.

8:19 PM
A basic question : in a tcolorbox, what is the meaning of this syntax for colors : \fill[gray!30] ?

@Vincent xcolor syntax

9:06 PM
@egreg probably only you and me are old enough to remember:-0

@DavidCarlisle Yes. :(

@DavidCarlisle July 9 is near. :)

@DavidCarlisle I've seen quite recently a (new) document starting with \documentstyle

@Vincent the ! color syntax comes from the xcolor package which allows you to "blend" different colours so that is (I think) a grey that is 30% plack and 70% white
@PauloCereda but will I be in Portugal....

@DavidCarlisle And the JHEP class, last revision in 2003, has \@ifundefined{pdfoutput}{}{\input pdfcolor.tex} % PDFTEX has \pdfoutput

9:13 PM
@DavidCarlisle Coimbra? :)

@PauloCereda wouldn't be the first time I've been at an OpenMath meeting on that date
