@tohecz 728?

@tohecz @DavidCarlisle 728?

@percusse 42 ?

@DavidCarlisle
So you are reinventing roman numerals in calendar context? — percusse 12 secs ago

@percusse I have no idea what that code's doing I just made it do whatever it did globally:-)

@DavidCarlisle Same here.

5 hours later…
6:20 AM
@DavidCarlisle Nice number.
@DavidCarlisle $222222_3 = 1000000_3 - 1 = 3^6 - 1 = 729 -1 = 728$

6:32 AM
the wonderful world of Indesign and Math exporting to HTML forums.adobe.com/thread/1641083 maybe they should switch to using tex4ht :)

2 hours later…
8:08 AM
@DavidCarlisle @percusse It seems that non-standard bases are popular now, so I made it base-3 ;)

@DavidCarlisle I just sent you a mail. It is not very important tough.

@HeikoOberdiek @tohecz ah I guessed base 2 but it clearly wasn't that so I gave up:-)

8:44 AM
@DavidCarlisle well, only mad mathematicians like I use the digit 2 in base-2 system :)

9:04 AM
@tohecz well as I said, it clearly wasn't base 2 :-)

4 hours later…
12:39 PM
Phew, my internet is back!

@PauloCereda where did it go to?

@DavidCarlisle To Oxford, I suspect. :) There were biscuits. :)

@PauloCereda they all got eaten: we had so much time to kill

@DavidCarlisle o.O
/sob

@PauloCereda so you didn't see my video clip reference?

12:46 PM
@DavidCarlisle hm?

22 hours ago, by David Carlisle
@PauloCereda just how far are you from "darkest Peru" ? See http://ml5vid.mymovies.net/filmmedia/film/fid6823/features/avfid17187/html5/1200‌.mp4 (see around 3:20 :-)

@DavidCarlisle ooh hold on.

@PauloCereda we went to watch that at the cinema yesterday;-)

Can the moderators or someone help with sorting out
0
A: "Flatten" macros prior to sharing LaTeX file

Marco StamazzaThe de-macro routine does not work on Windows, if one follows its readme file. I had posted some advice on how to solve this problem, but some expert moderators deleted the post. So I don't dare posting it again. If you need a solution for this problem you can send me a message. Or maybe Signor F...

I don't want to flag this as not an answer again as the user seems to be well-intended.

@AndrewSwann they aren't here so you probably should flag or at least @ ping Joseph here

1:09 PM
@DavidCarlisle A DUCK!

@PauloCereda This question might have an arara answer

Q: Within the .tex file, a loop to compile to multiple PDFs recycling content according to language

Nils FramstadI bet there are lots of loops using external processing, but I was hoping to get a preamble hack that would pdflatex out three outputs - suffixed according to Language selected - of the following MWE: (I use emacs With AUCTeX, maybe it is easier to customize a command from within there?) % The...

@egreg If arara 4.0 were ready, you'd love my answer. :P
actually, s/ready/published on CTAN/g

@DavidCarlisle Thanks. I have decide to write a comment on the posting itself.

1:26 PM
It is nice to see @egreg not even on the first row for the month.

@DavidCarlisle Be patient.

1:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle: ^^ looks like a cricket accident. :)

2:23 PM
@PauloCereda I watched interstellar this weekend. It's like a bimbo. Amazing view until you slowly find out that there is nothing inside. But you keep enjoying the view :P

@percusse LOL

Some parts are flat out nonsense.

2:38 PM
@percusse see you should have gone to see paddington instead:-)

@DavidCarlisle I should have indeed

@percusse did interstellar feature a rubber duck?

@DavidCarlisle rubber yes duck no. But some jokes were quite good. I recommend guardians of the galaxy though. That is close to Hitchhiker's Guide (the movie not the book) level

3:06 PM
Good maen

3:27 PM
Hi @christian

The Wall turns 35 today!

@Johannes_B: Sorry, I am a little bit distracted right now :D

@ChristianHupfer Can't stop looking at the falling camera man?

3:42 PM
@Johannes_B: For sure ;-) No, am correcting/improving a solution of mine I posted yesterday

4:24 PM
who wants to answer this one?

Q: array, table, tabular, tabularx, longtable

VaibhavWhat is the difference between array , table, tabular, tabularx in terms of syntax , typesetting , ease of use, and appearance after compiling. In short, where will you use each of them and what are merits and disadvantages of each of them. This is general question and may be useful to many. Kind...

@DavidCarlisle Me! Use Word. :)
@David: did you use your emacs buffer in your talk? :P

@PauloCereda not during, but 30 seconds before, as I had to adjust the font sizes a bit for the projector resolution. Of course since I was using html/css restyling was instantaneous, none of this beamer nonsense:-)

@DavidCarlisle LOL

@PauloCereda also of course on the bus into oxford to write my slides:-)

@DavidCarlisle ooh!
@David: so you go by bus and @egreg goes by train. Hmmm.

4:33 PM
@PauloCereda well I drove 90% of the way but taking a car into Oxford is pointless (there's nowhere to park), so I dumped the car at the council's car park and just got the "park and ride" in to town.

@DavidCarlisle is one of those cool buses I see on television? :)

@PauloCereda probably not (depends what you find "cool" I guess) standard double decker, no wifi

@DavidCarlisle ooh double decker!
I want to ride one of those.

@PauloCereda ^^
@PauloCereda it wasn't this one ^^^

@DavidCarlisle ooh!

4:48 PM
@PauloCereda You'll probably try to jump on them from the wrong side.

@egreg It's not my fault, they drive in the wrong side. :)

@PauloCereda Indeed!

@egreg David didn't ask me a question in the talk. :(

5:04 PM
@PauloCereda I left at the vim reference

@DavidCarlisle :(
I feel powerful now. I just pwned an Apple genius. :P

5:30 PM
What's the best way to stop a compulsive reviewer? What I sually do is reject one of the edits writing them a message like: “Altough the edits may be correct, editing too many questions at once disturbs the correct functioning of the site.”

@Manuel We can ask a moderator to ping him/her to chat so we can tell him/her directly. :)

It's not perfect, and I don't know if they receive the message. But I think two or three edits in a row is not wrong, but after that I tend to do that. Any suggestion.
But then we have to wait for a mod to come here.

@Manuel @Joseph has a great uptime.

Can we please not accept all linguistic tag edits? Most of them are forest stuff. OTherwise we have to mark all contextual tikz questions too and we'll get a lot of papiros

5:46 PM
@Manuel is it an edit of your text?

@percusse or a lot of percusses... I love you too ;)

@Papiro Your existence sometimes makes things easier such as giving examples.

@percusse thank you. you are welcome. Use but not abuse :-)
@PauloCereda congratulations for you nice interview.

@Papiro Thank you. :) /blushes

@PauloCereda I vote to Claudio Fiandrino for the next.

5:53 PM
@PauloCereda so stop hiding it and publish the thing:-)
4
@PauloCereda otherwise we have to revert to plan b which was to publish this:

@DavidCarlisle Mmm.. no.
@DavidCarlisle Why?

@Manuel I take a different approach to edits in general to edits of my own text (which I just roll back if I don't like them:-)

Bye. I just came here to send a hug to my friend @percusse.

@DavidCarlisle Yeah. I mean, (what @percusse said). I see one edit, and find it acceptable, and click okey. Then a second one and accept it. Then a third one and it gets annoying, and on the fourth I tend to reject it (altough it's right) because of the “editing spree”. But I don't know what's the best approach. May be next time I will simply Skip and wait for anyone to solve / stop it.

Hi

6:04 PM
@DavidCarlisle Oh no!
@barznjy Hi!
@percusse, @Papiro /group hug

I updated MikTeX, but now I have a problem. when I want to compile my latex file I can't see pictures, which means it can't be compiled.
I should convert pictures to (jpg) format so that I will be able to compile it.
what shall I do so that I can compile my file that I have (eps) picture format?

6:37 PM
@barznjy latex will include eps or if you use pdflatex convert it to pdf or these days I think it should shell escape and automatically convert it. There are loads of example on site

7:33 PM
do you also catch these? pap iro

8:02 PM
@percusse seems yes :) hi, btw :)
@DavidCarlisle @PauloCereda How many starred comments will the interview yet generate? :)
btw, mail sent @Paulo :)
@DavidCarlisle btw, more interestingly, it's 316 messages by @Paulo out of 918 messages altogether ;)

8:41 PM
@tohecz Oh my!
@tohecz Oh my²! :)

@PauloCereda I'll probably have your video done today

@JosephWright Oh no!
Guys, have you heard Finland will stop teaching handwriting to kids in school?

@PauloCereda No

8:57 PM
@PauloCereda I don't see that being a good idea

@JosephWright Neither do I. :(

@PauloCereda Odd: Finland is usually held up in the UK as being quite good education-wise

@JosephWright I love cursive handwriting. :)
@Joseph: once they do that, handwriting will be finnish-ed. :)
^^ bad pun

@PauloCereda Yes

9:27 PM
@PauloCereda Sending to Vimeo now

@JosephWright Oh no!

...that's odd. Well, maybe not. :P

@Werner such a low number:-)

10:03 PM
@Werner Nice: you are 112288 points behind me. ;-)

@PauloCereda: YADI?

@Werner And you've been overtaken!

@ChristianHupfer Nope. :)

@DavidCarlisle Crab-apples... Now you can go on holiday, for sure!

@PauloCereda: Yet another duck image :D?

10:06 PM
@Werner christmas is coming up I understand.

@DavidCarlisle Oooooo... presents (aka bounties) issued by you to all competing answers - great! I'm reading waaaay to much between the lines. :)

@ChristianHupfer It's a Christmas tree, no duck. :P

@DavidCarlisle Drat your HTML slides

@JosephWright welcome to the 21st century:-)

@DavidCarlisle Suggestions on how to convert each page to some form of image without having to hand-crop?

10:09 PM
@JosephWright what aspect ratio?

@PauloCereda: Oh my ... :D

@ChristianHupfer <3

@DavidCarlisle I guess SVGA

@JosephWright I'll send you something

@DavidCarlisle Cool: screenshots then removing the chrome not an attractive approach

10:12 PM
@JosephWright well, once you have the screenshots, you can call imagemagick to rescue with the cropping

@tohecz Yes (or IrfanView), but I'd have to manually trim off the web browser edges

@JosephWright well if you use full screen (F11) in the browser there is nothing to crop is there?

@DavidCarlisle At least with FF on Mac, full screen still has toolbars

@JosephWright you should get a proper operating system:-)
@JosephWright you really can't make the browser display pages (or videos) full screen? strange.
@JosephWright but I'll make some 4x3 aspect ratio ones anyway

@DavidCarlisle Stuff in the browser can ask for full screen (E.g. iPlayer), but there's not an option for me to do that with HTML

10:16 PM
@JosephWright on windows all the browsers go full screen on F11 I think

@JosephWright you can automate this

@DavidCarlisle Still page-by-page, which is the more painful part (I can just split PDF-based presentations into separate pages)
@tohecz Possibly
@DavidCarlisle Definitely try to get a splitter for next year!

@DavidCarlisle I think you would be the appropriate person to share with
oops backslashes are causing problem but type in any regexp :)
I tried stuff like this
\b((?:[a-z][\w-]+:(?:\/{1,3}|[a-z0-9%])|www\d{0,3}[.]|[a-z0-9.\-]+[.][a-z]{2,4}‌\/)(?:(?:[^\s()<>.]+[.]?)+|\((?:[^\s()<>]+|(?:\([^\s()<>]+\)))*\))+(?:\((?:[^\s()‌<>]+|(?:\([^\s()<>]+\)))*\)|[^\s!()[]{};:'".,<>?«»“”‘’]))`
and it is pretty quick

@JosephWright Have you got an idea if this'll have any subsequent effects on blog.TeX.SX?

Q: We're no longer starting new individual site Community Blogs - here's why

Grace NoteWe've learned a lot by creating these per-site blogs for any site which asked for them. However, we at Stack Exchange have not been doing enough to make blogs work - neither for the contributors nor for the communities that are associated with them. On our network, any site will have generated s...

10:29 PM
@tohecz Will have to read up on it

kk

@percusse looks nice, not sure the railroad diagrams are really easier to understand than the regex though:-)

@DavidCarlisle I don't see anything regular with regex

Q: In FoilTeX, with sans serif font, \emph gives serif font

lu_sinI'm using the foils class. I'd like all the text to be serif, so I added \renewcommand{\familydefault}{\rmdefault} to the preamble. However, when I use \emph{}, it displays italicised SANS serif! MWE: \documentclass[landscape]{foils} \renewcommand{\familydefault}{\rmdefault} \begin{document} \...

One for @DavidCarlisle, obviously

@tohecz we need to get @PauloCereda to post his pending blog article before the blog gets archived for inactivity
@JosephWright foiltex, not seen that for a while

10:39 PM
@DavidCarlisle AFAIK we're not the ones that caused the decision. The blog seems to get couple posts a year. If that's considered not enough, I'm going to fight for it :) (like I do for PH index now :D )

@JosephWright Are you also uploading other talks? They are really nice to have online. So thanks for the previous ones too.

@percusse Yes: I just have to merge the audio and slides
@percusse Will take a few days

foils.cls! Oh, dear!
And, before somebody says something, I've never used foils.cls until today for answering the question.

There was I downloading foiltex do do as @JosephWright instructed and return to the site to post an answer only to find @egreg has nipped in first. The man has no shame:-)

@egreg: I am definitely too young to know foils.cls :D

10:53 PM
@DavidCarlisle I thought you were a big expert in foils.

@egreg expert enough to download it from ctan and find it's redefined \em :-)

@DavidCarlisle And a curious substitution rule: fcmr/m/sl becomes fcmss/m/sl

@egreg yes well it was one of the first contributed classes to use NFSS declarations, so looking a bit odd with hindsight is not surprising:-)

@DavidCarlisle Still with code for compatibility with the DC fonts!

@egreg yep I saw that too. at least it isn't catering for am fonts...

11:54 PM
@DavidCarlisle Another user who knows how to choose the best answer: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/213837/…

@egreg I replied
