Q: Infinite loop on a non-macro token

JasonThe following document infinite-loops: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{breqn} \begin{document} \newcommand{\allowbreaks}[2][,]{\begingroup \catcode`#1=\active \scantokens{% \edef#1{% \show\detokenize{#1}% \detokenize{#1}% \noexpand\allowbreak \show0% }% ...

12:57 AM
@egreg, I suppose I need a new breqn to make it loop?

Q: determining if macro name is in use

is not a duplicate: it seems to be about checking if a given command is used by any LaTeX package world-wide, rather than just if a command is used by the current document.

hi =)

8:11 AM
@N3buchadnezzar Morning

Sorry for bothering you guys so early, how does one write a number in the center of a circle in tikz?
I tried something like this, however I could not center the numbers inside of the circles. And now it just looks silly

that's not normal TikZ, looks like euclid
no clue how that works internally, if it just creates a node you should probably use the center anchor.

so something like
\node[center,label=\large $1$] at (a);

?

\node[anchor=center] at (a) {\large $1$};
would be normal syntax

8:26 AM
Yeah, haha ^^ Thanks, I hardly use "normal" Tikz so
Hugs

Unfortunately my French is not good enough for me to understand the euclide documentation, so I haven't really been able to use it.

I do not know a single word french either
But the document have a lot of clear examples, and I have been able to learn through them. It is actually very simple, and It have a few advanced tools that makes constructing geometrical figures much simpler.

8:44 AM
well, I'm pretty proficient at TikZ. I only require the manual if I want to know exactly how something works, I won't be able to do that with euclide, that bothers me...

9:25 AM
@StefanKottwitz: congrats for being the new maintainer of LaTeX-Community.org! :)

@PauloCereda Thanks! Have to learn more PHP. And Python for TeXample.net

@StefanKottwitz Ah. :) PHP because of the PHPBB forum and Python because of Django? :)

@PauloCereda Correct! And besides Django, Joomla and Wordpress I'm now looking for a reason to use Drupal :-)

@StefanKottwitz Ah! :) I never worked with Drupal, but it seems a very solid framework. :)

@PauloCereda Do you use a CMS yourself?

9:41 AM
@StefanKottwitz I don't have much experience with CMS, though we had a project to deploy our lab website using Joomla. I found it very nice. I once wrote a few plugins for PHPBB, but that's all. I find most of the technical documentation confusing and too superficial. :(

@PauloCereda Good to know ;) So I now know somebody who could possibly help regarding a plugin problem :-D or who could recommend plugins which would be good from the LaTeX user's point of view.
on my plan: Solved topics & filter mod (done), similar topics links (tested), GeShi, then I'll see ... still looking for a plugin for tagging

@StefanKottwitz Sure, I'm glad to help. :)
@StefanKottwitz hm interesting. :P

@StefanKottwitz I was thinking the same. This question is not good for our format. I'd go with "close". :)

@daniel /all I posted a comment here tex.stackexchange.com/a/43820/963 that deserves a bit of a help from our German speaking community. Any volunteers?
@MarcoDaniel tex.stackexchange.com/a/43820/963, lets talk if you can help a bit with a translation.

@YiannisLazarides It's a long documentation and the author doesn't provide the tex-file. Before I translate the whole documentation I think you should ask a question and I will answer in two steps. The first one explains the package and the second one shows some examples.
After this a proof reading is necessary ;-)

@MarcoDaniel ok, that is what I had in mind as well. I don't think a full translation is needed just a few working examples. I am off to dinner tonight, but I will post it at about 11-12 tomorrow morning (your time).

@YiannisLazarides At this time I am working.

@MarcoDaniel Can anybody prompt the author for including also the source of the documentation?

@MarcoDaniel OK I will leave it for about the same time as now tomorrow night and leave you a note in the chat.

4:38 PM
@egreg with the intention to translate the whole documentation.

@MarcoDaniel That would be useful anyway, as the "example" document is rather scanty.
I think that the author will be happy if someone translates the docs for him

@egreg A translation is possible but requires a little bit more time.

@MarcoDaniel That's clear. However, with the original source it should be much easier.

@egreg Of course. I am writing an e-mail to the author.
@egreg @YiannisLazarides Done

Bug in xparse?
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{xparse}
\NewDocumentCommand { \Test } { R(){1,1} }
 {
   \texttt{#1}
 }
\begin{document}
\Test()
\end{document}
The argument type R doesn't work as expected.

7:06 PM
PS: The argument type r which based on the type R works well -- i am confused
PPS: the type r doesn't work
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{xparse,expl3}
\ExplSyntaxOn
\NewDocumentCommand { \Test } { r() }
 {
  \IfNoValueTF{#1}{leer}{\texttt{#1}}
 }
\ExplSyntaxOff
\begin{document}
ads \Test() asd
\end{document}

@MarcoDaniel I'm confused: what are you expecting?

@JosephWright The type r is a mandatory argument. So if I use \NewDocumentCommand { \Test } { r() } and the contents of \Test() is empty I expect a \NoValue. In the case of \NewDocumentCommand { \Test } { R(){1,1} } I would expect that the input \Test() leads to the output 1,1
I hope its clear

@MarcoDaniel I'm afraid you misunderstand the reason for having a default here. The argument is required, so must always contain something. The default here is for recovery from an error (which you don't need with m as TeX will grab something)
Mandatory arguments can't be missed out, so can't have a default-for-absence
At least that was the plan: perhaps one for LaTeX-L, to see what others expect

7:22 PM
@JosephWright I can't write there ;-). In Both cases I get an error. Than I missunderstood it again ;-(

@MarcoDaniel I'll raise it, then

@JosephWright That's the intention of the \NoValue:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{xparse,expl3}
\ExplSyntaxOn
\NewDocumentCommand { \Test } { r() }
 {
  \IfNoValueTF{#1}{\textbf{empty}}{\texttt{#1}}
 }
\ExplSyntaxOff
\begin{document}
ads \Test asd
\end{document}
Produces an error and print empty

@MarcoDaniel Yes

@JosephWright You see I love examples. ;-) Now I can play further.

@MarcoDaniel Oh yes, examples are good

7:32 PM
@JosephWright At the moment I write a small article for the "Die TeXnische Komödie" about xparse. I want to show the possibilities to the German users / members.
@JosephWright That's really a funny typ:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{xparse,expl3}
\ExplSyntaxOn
\NewDocumentCommand { \Test } { u{Wo} }
 {
   \texttt{#1}
 }
\ExplSyntaxOff
\begin{document}
\Test Hello World
\end{document}

@MarcoDaniel May not be so useful :-)

@JosephWright I think it's useful. The argument of u can be \AUS. So everything is used until \AUS. You can avoid braces.

@MarcoDaniel We can certainly see some use cases, hence the inclusion

@JosephWright Yes.

@MarcoDaniel I assume you've seen the TUGBoat articles on xparse, for example tug.org/TUGboat/tb31-3/tb99wright.pdf

7:41 PM
@egreg: Go Juve! I'm ready for the game! :)

@JosephWright Not yet, thanks. At the moment I am only a member of DANTE. But I think the article will be listed in the references ;-)

@MarcoDaniel There are a couple from 2010, which are therefore free-to-all

@JosephWright But only online. I am a little bit old fashion. I am working with hard copies ;-). The TUGBoat is very lucrative to become a member.
@JosephWright I think a useful example of the typ u. Highlight a single item:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{xparse,expl3}
\NewDocumentCommand { \MyItem } { u{\item} }
 {
  \item\texttt{\color{red} #1}\item
 }
\begin{document}
\begin{itemize}
\MyItem  foo
\item bar
\end{itemize}
\end{document}

Q: What packages are actively maintained/developed on github/bitbucket?

dfcI would like to improve my TeX skills by following the development of actively developed packages. I findingwould like to give back by taking on some of the low hanging fruit among the issues/bug-reports of a package.

Is this a 'real' question (i.e. does it fit the format)?

@JosephWright Not really. I listed only the packages I am watching ;-)

1 hour later…
9:33 PM
@JosephWright Wow, Joseph is a celebrity! :)
On a more serious note, I think this is not a "real" question. I have a suggestion: we could add three icons representing CTAN/GitHub/BitBucket to the list of package authors in our meta site.

@PauloCereda I was just about to say exactly this. That's a much better way of answering this question. I would move the question to meta, close it and start annotating the list of package authors packages as you suggest.

@PauloCereda Well, what can we say?

@egreg Huh?

@AlanMunn Juventus won, of course. :)
1:2 at Milan

@egreg Ah. Serves me right for butting in. Serves you right for making that comment a reply. :-_

9:46 PM
@egreg Great game! I shouted a lot when Del Piero almost scored that goal in the first half. For me, Chiellini was the man of the match! :)
How do I insert an image without the need of the image uploader? :(
Ah found it. :)
@AlanMunn:
The icons have links :)

10:16 PM
@PauloCereda Also Caceres did well.
And not only for the two goals

@egreg Very well! The 2nd goal was fantastic.
Pirlo also played very well. :)

@PauloCereda As usual. :)

@JosephWright: I'm sorry, I tested an experimental repository tagging in your packages. :) Feel free to rollback.

Q: Who are the package maintainers here?

Andrew StaceyA fair few users here have written or maintain packages on CTAN, some even in the TeXLive distribution, or at the least have some official involvement with a package or packages. I think that it would be useful to have a list of these people, ordered (in some fashion) by package. My reasoning i...

@egreg Now Juve should get Thiago Silva out of Milan and add him to the defense line. :P

We have Chiellini and Barzagli. :)

Chiellini was fantastic! Now, Barzagli... :P

10:25 PM
@PauloCereda Fine with me: good idea :-)

@JosephWright May I add instructions to the topic?

I just noticed that I can't edit questions or answers on Meta (I can on main). Why is that?

11:21 PM
@MartinSchröder You don't seem to exist there.

I can edit some questions (e.g. meta.tex.stackexchange.com/q/1181/5763), but only retag others (meta.tex.stackexchange.com/q/2258/5763). And I have an editor badge. Confusing...

But is that on meta on on the main site? If I search for you on the meta site you don't seem to show up.

@AlanMunn The link is for meta.tex.sx

11:36 PM
Hi all
I have strange Latex behavior - when I compile my file on one computer it's OK, but on another computer there is `%bf` added in some bibliography items.
Before I'm trying the not-so-small task of creating a minimal working example, does anyone have an advice about where to look for the problem cause?
[I'm using WinEdt+MikTex+PDFTexify on both computers, with natbib package]

@j0ker5 Reproduction is the key to a good source of help. Either way, are you sure that both distributions are up-to-date?

@MartinSchröder So it was. I looked for you by searching, but the search only finds you if you view voters. So then I have no clue. Maybe a mod will have some inkling.

@Werner (1) since the same thing fully works on other computer, I'm not even sure it'll be possible to reproduce. Furthermore, I'll still have to add the full bst file, since i don't know how to edit it.
(2) how do I verify that it is up-to-date?

@AlanMunn I asked this on meta (meta.tex.stackexchange.com/q/2262/5763).

11:55 PM
@j0ker5 You would need to know what distribution is used on either machine. If you're running TeX Live, then use tlmgr update --self --all --reinstall-forcibly-removed. If you're running MiKTeX, then you need to use the MiKTeX Update Manager.

@Werner OK, I'm running "Update MiKTeX (Admin)" on my home Windows7 computer (where it fails) now.
