@AJHenderson My wife never saw me move so fast as when the time came, and she hasn't seen me move that fast since :) Even though it's early: congratulations!
@AJHenderson Ah, parenting in modern times... a.k.a. the technological arms race between children and parents.
granted, I have photos of me at the age of 3 or so using my Dad's suitcase computer, but at the time, having your own computer as a kid wasn't a thought yet
it was by the time I was 6 or 7 though
and I had my own word processor at school by 3rd grade
I was thinking of starting with a Raspberry Pi kit. It doesn't get much simpler than that. Although a standard desktop in a non-standard case can be fun.
I might actually decide to upgrade my tower and give them my old one
about the time they are old enough, my tower will be getting pretty close to EOL for my purposes (about 9 or 10 years old)
though it might outlast that, I guess we'll see. It's about 5 and a half years old now and still runs modern games at 1920 by 1200 with graphics cranked
@AJHenderson well, once baby decides to come, it'll all be tiring for a bit. Personally, I'd suggest you grab a bite to eat - maternity wards are great at looking after the mother, but the father is usually just moved around and ignored, so before you go in, get some kip, have some food, and remember to take snacks for you as well :-)
