Build a simple hovercraft for your kids :) You'll need a leaf blower, some kind of board, and a bit of plastic.

5 hours later…
2:22 PM
getting down to the wire....
baby has slowed movement
(due date is today, though it looks like will probably be a day or two late, but who knows)
but if I go running from the room in a flash...
@Beofett turning off the wireless radio or blocking the app is more brilliant ;)

@AJHenderson My wife never saw me move so fast as when the time came, and she hasn't seen me move that fast since :) Even though it's early: congratulations!
@AJHenderson Ah, parenting in modern times... a.k.a. the technological arms race between children and parents.

@Beofett thanks
@Beofett yeah, I'm sure it is going to be a very interesting situation with my kids when the time comes
I'm kind of looking forward to it
though I'm hoping that I will have successfully taught responsible use of technology along the way

me too. My son asked for his own computer this weekend (he'll be 4 this month). I told him as soon as he masters reading, we'll build one together.

nice, gotta love starting them out young
granted, I have photos of me at the age of 3 or so using my Dad's suitcase computer, but at the time, having your own computer as a kid wasn't a thought yet
it was by the time I was 6 or 7 though
and I had my own word processor at school by 3rd grade
bought by the school even (thank you IEP)

I didn't get one until I was about 9... a Timex Sinclair 1000.

I forget when I got my own computer, mostly because it wasn't exactly my own computer
we more had a community of computers
I will probably build a kid's computer really early though
mostly just because I won't want them messing with mine :)

6:04 PM
I was thinking of starting with a Raspberry Pi kit. It doesn't get much simpler than that. Although a standard desktop in a non-standard case can be fun.

I might actually decide to upgrade my tower and give them my old one
about the time they are old enough, my tower will be getting pretty close to EOL for my purposes (about 9 or 10 years old)
though it might outlast that, I guess we'll see. It's about 5 and a half years old now and still runs modern games at 1920 by 1200 with graphics cranked
some require turning down AA a bit, but big whoop

2 hours later…
8:18 PM
@AJHenderson - any news yet?

@RoryAlsop nope, still all quiet

@AJHenderson All the best when it comes, then. This is your first, right?

yeah
well, I should say no more news other than the baby being more quiet

@AJHenderson well, once baby decides to come, it'll all be tiring for a bit. Personally, I'd suggest you grab a bite to eat - maternity wards are great at looking after the mother, but the father is usually just moved around and ignored, so before you go in, get some kip, have some food, and remember to take snacks for you as well :-)

8:58 PM
@RoryAlsop supposedly the hospital we are going to is good at taking care of dad's too, but I'll play it by ear

@AJHenderson excellent :-)

and they have good food too
