Hello fellow Parenting stack exchange members! Just wanted to quickly introduce myself. I just joined the group today and look forward to reading all the great answers in this group!
My name is Rob, my wife and I have decided that we would like children so we are trying to learn all we can about what it takes to raise a healthy child. So the questions I ask will be more relating to preparing for having children and creating a healthy environment for them.

Hi Rob, welcome! This site is generally dedicated to handling children, not making them :-) We have a few Q's about pregnancy and only this one about getting started.
Speaking of which: dear mods, could you please tag-merge the 3 pregnant Q's into pregnancy?

@eniacAvenger Hello and welcome! If you have any questions about the site itself, please don't hesitate to ask here, or on our meta site. I hope you find the site useful and informative... we've got a lot of great content, and I think more questions about preparing for kids would be a welcome and useful addition.
@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun Done... thanks for pointing that out!

@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun Thanks for the warm welcome! After reading the help page: parenting.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic I see that the site description is "Parenting Stack Exchange is for parents, grandparents, nannies and others who care for children." This seemed to be the closest group I could find for people preparing to have children as well. Hopefully my questions are still ok, but let me know if I am misinterpreting the rules.
@Beofett Thank you for your warm welcome as well. I'm glad that you mentioned that questions about preparing to have children are considered on topic. I imagine many parenting issues can be sorted out before they happen so I am glad that I could contribute any ideas floating around in my head right now.

@eniacAvenger To clarify, I think they're on topic. So far, we haven't really discussed the "planning" aspect to the point where there's a clear consensus.
At this point, the best I can say is that I don't see why they would be considered off topic, and I wouldn't use a moderator vote (or even a non-moderator vote, if that were an option for me) to close any such question.
However, the rules are community-driven, and it is possible that people might decide such questions don't belong here.

@eniacAvenger As long as your questions are: - about pregnancy or getting pregnant; - not of a medical nature; - not about the relationship with your spouse; then it's not considered off-topic under our current interpretation.

For reference, here are the previous discussions I can find about questions from the perspective of people who aren't yet parents:

Q: Is family planning considered on-topic?

Mark McDonaldPregnancy is considered on-topic almost unanimously. On the accepted answer, JBRWilkinson suggested that is is "a very good thing that people considering becoming parents proactively come to this site". I am not a parent (yet) & before I pollute the site with off-topic questions, I'd like to kn...

A: "Life before baby" doesn't fit in here; but is pretty important itself.

Robert CartainoThere were several parent-related proposals that were merged in support of a unified Parenting site. Since topics like Pregnancy and Adoption were folded into this subject, those subject are on topic for this site. As for "pregnancy questions" being too subjective, it's no more or less so than p...

Q: Are questions about becoming a parent on topic?

balanced mamaNo, I am not talking about questions about the mechanics of the birds and the bees. I am asking about pregnancy, adoption and possibly infertility-related circumstances and topics. I know we sometimes have questions about coping with pregnancy as long as they don't delve too far into the medica...

@Beofett and @eniacAvenger, if it's desired to resolve the uncertainty, why not open a new meta topic and have it decided on up front?
haha, Beofett's links are exactly that! :-) I stand corrected!

@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun Given that the shortage of new questions is one of the things perpetually holding us back from graduating, I'm leaning towards "lets assume they're okay until someone raises some good reasons on meta why they shouldn't be" for borderline topics :)
emphasis on "borderline"...

@Beofett that's exactly why I'd also always welcome any and all new content that isn't blatantly off-topic or horribly low quality :)
/me is going offline...

@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun I was sorely tempted to post my scifi whose underwear is this? question here :)
@TorbenGundtofte-Bruun Have a good night!

Some of these are goofy and silly, but some are pretty clever: parent hacks

is it normal for a baby to be able to rub their eyes with the back of their hands and then fold them together in their lap at 2 weeks old?
and or to be able to stretch in a coordinated manner, like he'll stretch out his feet while stretching his arms in front, then stretch his arms over his head while yawning and then immediately go back to sleeping with his feet recrossed and his hands folded over in his lap again

10:57 PM
@AJHenderson wow - he can fold his eyes in his lap?
Yes - it is normal. They tend to find comfortable ways to be all curled up in the womb

well, just had the first bath
my wife is already trying to kill the baby

@AJHenderson yeah, that happens too :-)
wait until you've nearly dropped one down the stairs, experienced their first fall off the couch when they really couldn't move the day before etc...

it was all going well and he was enjoying it pretty well until we got to the head washing

one of the guarantees is they will scare you senseless so many times - and still be like "What?"
2
@AJHenderson heh

soaping up his head was pretty smooth, but then when she went to clean his head, she didn't think about where the water would run after
and it went right in to his mouth and he started choking on it

11:02 PM
@AJHenderson eeek
again - it happens to literally every parent

11:53 PM
@RoryAlsop we got it on camera though
