Q: How can I avoid my girlfriend getting depressed over studies?

JorgeWell, I'm not exactly a "parent" but certainly I try to "educate" her about things I lived. (since we both live together and alone since young (18)). The fact is that she is 22, and is at a pre-university class that she has to pass in order to be able to start studying the career she chose. We ...

I'm on the fence on this question.
It isn't really parenting, since the relationship is romantic in nature, but setting aside the context, it seems absolutely relevant from a parenting perspective. Thoughts?

@Beofett I asked in academia chat if it would be on topic there and so far the result seems to be "no." I'm okay with letting the community vote to close or not on this one.

@KarlBielefeldt Sounds good to me.

My feeling is that it is part relationship, part academia, but definitely not parenting. I suspect a better-worded question would be acceptable in Academia, but as it stands it isn't really appropriate; the simple question of "How can I help someone who is depressed over poor academic performance?" seems appropriate, after all.
But the current question probably isn't since it's too wordy and specific, and doesn't focus on the core of the question
Although relationships is also relevant, and perhaps more so here?

@Joe If the word "girlfriend" were changed to "daughter", would you see any problem with the question?

Joe
No - and that is why I don't think it should be here
It isn't a parenting question, because it is not about daughter.
It's too specific, at least as it stands, to be a good stand-in question (ie, convert it to a parenting question)
and advice to a parent is very, very different from advice to boyfriend, I think
very different roles, very different responsibilities

The reason I'm on the fence is that the answers could be valuable to parents, which makes it potentially good content.

Joe
I don't disagree that the question "How do I help my daughter deal with academic frustration" would be bad, I just don't see this question as meaningfully converting to that question without losing all of its detail
and it wouldn't be helpful to the OP, either
it's so different how I'd answer that to boyfriend as to parent...

@Joe That's a good point, and I don't think I can disagree.
I'm still not comfortable enough to cast a binding mod vote, but it seems that the community is leaning towards agreemetn with your perspective.
