My comment on this post was the most peaceful way I could find to express my wanting to beat the hell out of that guy just because I can! Pft! Bruises!!!
@JeremyMiller @JeremyMiller: :-O That has to be a joke!?
@JeremyMiller - I ran a free clinic (that is to say, I staffed it) 1-2 days/week for the uninsured working, the mentally ill and the drug addicted, for a little over two years. Bar none, the people who were the most resistant to staying on their meds were those with bipolar disorder. I presume the schizophrenics are also resistant, but they didn't tend to come in.
But unlike the schizophrenics, who really have dramatic affect changes, the BPD patients were not negligent, uncaring parents (as he would like to imply).
You saw people doing what he said? wow! I never saw anything that outrageous. I did meet "Elijah the Prophet", a sweet guy wrapped in a beige sheet secured with a belt, and a young guy who thought he was Jesus tried to punch me because I mispronounced my last name (according to him). :-(
@medica Fair enough point here. I was, though, only addressing his one comment, isolated from the entirety of the rest.
@medica No, I did not see it myself... I was already locked up, too. They were there for those things. They had a tendency to open up after they stopped fearing you. Most of the patients in there simply wanted someone to care about them. My experience is limited, though. I spent a total of about 2 weeks over a period of 2 years in there with the longest stint being the first time @ 7 days.
@medica As a victim of abuse, no I was not joking. But, I believe Isaac Asimov's saying, "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." So, while I "wanted" something, I chose a far more peaceful solution. :)
