@Tezz - ok , Ravan Dahan is symbolically done as the wining of "Truth सत्य over non truth असत्य " , so i thnk people do that on dusahra , as this is the most imp day ,or muhurat in hinduism.
@Tezz - we also exchange , leaves of "apata" tree ,signifying gold) are exchanged as wishes for a bright, prosperous future.
