If you actually are looking for what "Islam" says, asking for a Qur'an-only perspective will give you only a very small piece of that picture.

Not small but the only picture that matters. Everyone agrees on the Quran being a proof while the rest of what are called 'sources' are controversial and uncertain. Those non-Quranic literature still need to be judged in comparison to the Quran. That's why asking what Quran says will suffice for everything and everyone.

As long as the non-Quranic sources are indisputably authentic, which becomes a problem for people who use them because we have the right to challenge them. Quran is proof in itself and no one would doubt its authenticity.
