Q: Do evidences speak for themselves?

goldPseudoWe here have had a long and ugly history of copy-paste; as a site we actually seem to have had some success at discouraging these posts, which is an important step toward distinguishing us as a reliable source of Q&A rather than just another forum. Kudos for that. We still see a lot of posts wh...

Is it acceptable to answer a old question that has multiple answers, but not a marked answer?

Q: What is the general ruling on baduas? ( making negative duas on someone )

khanafghWhat is the general ruling on baduas? ( making negative duas on someone ) if someone has caused you so much harm that you feel anger and hate towards them to an extent that you want Allah to deal with them, and that you can not forgive them. Is it allowed? and do you get punished on day of judg...

's an odd word. i had to look it up, but it seems to fit.

@goldPseudo Unless "evidences" is specifically insider lingo rather than just a poor English translation of something, might I suggest "proof texts" as better diction to use for the title of that post?

@Caleb i reckon the term is commonly-enough used within the Internet-Islam community to be understood.
it's mostly a translation (and in many cases a misunderstanding) of the Arabic term daleel.

@goldPseudo Got it. I have seen it enough I did wonder if that might be the case. It's really awkward English but if it's what people are going to understand that's fine.

"references" would probably work too, but the difference is trivial enough that i can't bother to fix it unless there's other significant updates in the rest of the post.
i may tweak it a bit so it doesn't look like i'm unduly focussing on the primary sources themselves; the basic argument applies to pretty much every "item" (fatwas, articles, scholarly opinions, etc) that's used to back up an answer.
(all which the Internet-Islam understanding of "evidences" would cover, insofar as they accept anything as authoritative)

@goldPseudo Meh. That's a problem that's even worse offline than it is on the internet.

i don't doubt that.
although i do wonder how much of that is a result of learning about Islam from the Internet.
