@bmike FYI i'm giving apple.se a design update this week. the main purpose is to move it to our new refactored LESS(CSS) base, also in the process I'm cleaning up some visual styles and implementing retina friendly svg icons

@Jin I love it. The site design is so fun to see evolve.

Ping me if you need any edge cases tested / banged on / retina / mobile / etc...

@bmike I plan to launch the new design tomorrow. the site will feel lighter and more spacious. the recent "flat" aesthetics Apple's using also make it easier to create svg icons too.

but the site still will feel the same

@Jin I hope the subtle rainbow stripe under the top black bar survives in some form.

Cool. I don't have a 5k iMac, but it's fun to hit the store and check out how the site responds to that unreal amount of physical pixels.

I know you guys asked for retina stuff a while back. sorry took me a while but they're almost here!

i think i'll get a new retina imac this summer. my current iMac is 4.5 years old

Yes - retina will be awesome for some more of the assets.

The 5k screams, but since I jumped on a Mac Pro in December, I'm hesitant to trade that in for the 5k - but it's so fast and that screen, that screen, ....

@bmike whoa you actually bought the Pro?

how is it? i thought it was way too pricey for the performance.

It's for business. I currently run about 10 OS X server instances on Mac Mini and needed to test the larger horsepower / put that machine in temporarily to do things like directory migration. Also, I've got several thunderbolt 2 drives and Pegasus towers and the Pro can rip through imaging and data migrations in hours instead of days.

I really, really love it. But you're right that it's real power is unused (the GPU/CPU rarely get over 25% usage no matter what I'm throwing at it).

However, I'm messing with docker and virtual machines and having the RAM and CPU really will shine then.

@Jin Yup - funded projects can work well for hardware purchase dreams :-)

@bmike ha I hear ya. our system admins here get all the cool toys they want...

they're so funny signing the tops of the server enclosures, etc...

( and I poke fun at myself too - I did the same sort of thing when commissioning / decommissioning servers - ops/sysadmin are a unique sort )

@Jin exciting! I was looking at SuperUser.com today and it looked a little nicer than AD. Was wondering when we'd catch up.
