Should extracurricular activities be required for home-schoolers? Of course they should be offered, but should reluctant children be required to attend a certain amount of social activities? Is there any research on the success of children who get little to no out of the home socialization?

Heck - socialization should be mandatory for all single children or even ones with siblings more than 4 years elder IMO.

OMG the iPad mini is such a step forward in packaging and minimalism.

Time will tell if the non-retina resolution bugs me, but I'm guessing it will get heavy, heavy use.

I showed up at around 1030 at a local Apple store. Stock was very low at that point - but I was lucky enough to get one of the models I wanted.

These are going to sell like hotcakes for the holiday season. The Smart Cover is so great compared to the last generation.

I can't disagree with a word that gruber wrote about the mini on his blog. It's better than any other iPad for most people - and even the ones that "need" retina will find it hard to put down.

Hmm...I like the form factor for sure. I don't know about the screen. Everything that's not retina seems pixelated and blurry to me now...compared to my iPod touch

@bmike The only issue I have with it (him) is his years of defending the 10" format while others went lower on the grounds of "this is the right way, others are only going smaller because they need to be different. Seems if the mini had Retina, he's never use a 10" one again.

Fun with bugs: try making a new Calendar event (using quick add) at "1am nov 4th". i'm getting error 403 on CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation. presumably because the event lands on the daylight saving switch.
