I usually just use raspbian with ssh to play movies

@Nick I've been using my Chromecast a lot lately instead of my openelec Pi, but I've never seen any lag on mine (Model B)

Do you mean lag when playing movies or when navigating the UI?

Maybe there's a few hundred ms lag but it's a non-issue for me.

I'm not even sure if it's really laggy. I have to test it on my PC and then compare with the same skin

...OK, just tested it now on this PC (a modest Phenom II w/ 4GB RAM) and the UI has almost instant navigation, while the Pi has, I guess, 500ms or 750ms lag

But being able to use my TV remote is more important than a small lag IMHO

what really annoys me is the lack of codec support on the Pi

Being unable to play some file formats =/

@ThatBrazilianGuy using raspbian with omxplayer never had any files not being able to play
