@mxyzplk My problem with this stackexchange is, as it always has been, the extreme rate at which comments get deleted. While I understand that the nature of this stackexchange could lead to long discussions which don't belong in comments, even the most docile of comments tend to just disappear if you blink too long. "I think you mean X, am I understanding you right?" will result in it being deleted as "an answer in a comment", long before the OP has a chance to see it and modify his question.

Unless people start getting caught up in a back and forth conversation, there's little to no reason to delete comments instantly. If that does happen, move them to chat. Simply deleting comments with the idea that comments are the bane of mankind's existence is pointless, and used extremely excessively on this site, despite numerous stackexchange meta questions in the past asking this to stop.
