Trying to deal with the aftermath of a snow storm

@math101 Oh my how are things in there?
I'm worried

It wasnt a huge storm just a foot or 2 of snow

ow..

The only issue is that I dont own a pair of waterproof boots :\

that's bad...
@akram your name is nice

12:13 AM
@Charlie thanks
@Charlie great, what do you like in Math?

@AkramHassan :)
@AkramHassan yes. no

@Charlie what do you do in mathematics?

@AkramHassan I'm just an undergrad student

user19161
I only do 1+1=2 aka banana math.

applied math

12:15 AM
@JacobBlack your life is peaceful

user19161
@AkramHassan HAHA, you mean 1+1=2? Well, that is very hard to prove...

@JacobBlack i was reading that bananas have Tryptophan

@JacobBlack proving and banana math are two different things :)

user19161
To prove 1+1=2, one needs to study some logic and set theory first...

@JacobBlack tryptophan has shown some promise as an antidepressant

12:19 AM
@Charlie where is ur friend skullpatrol?

@math101 See that line in my profile? That is the song you sent me. I already knew about it 9000 years ago...

@Charlie Yeah, I read these things before.

guys do you care about the physical meaning of things or you just play with them?

@JacobBlack you're a banana, banana has tryptophan, you give people pleausure

We just play with them

user19161
@AkramHassan It is important to have intuition and motivation for topics.

user19161
For example, we think of R as a line.

12:22 AM
5-hydroxytryptamine

user19161
R isn't really a line, but we make it so that it is like a line.

^that makes me happy

user19161
Intuition motivates formal definitions.

user19161
After that, the definitions become logically independent of the intuition.

@skullpatrol where are you?

user19161
12:23 AM
The definition should also agree with intuition.

user19161
In this way, what we define is what we want to define.

@JacobBlack i see
@JacobBlack having come from engineering background, i am obsessed with the physical meaning
but now i study pure math

user19161
@AkramHassan Well, physics is the largest source of math perhaps.

user19161
Much of advanced math comes from theoretical physics.

@JacobBlack what's your interest anyway?

user19161
12:26 AM
@AkramHassan Well, none. I just know simple things.

>Well, physics is the largest source of math perhaps.
could you elaborate on that?

user19161
For example, differential equations.

user19161
These arise naturally in physical phenomena.

@JacobBlack thanks
see you guys

@AkramHassan bye!

12:27 AM
ah, so you mean math which just generally has some type of application in physics
i can partially agree to that

Physics studies the math of nature

Gotta start studying. Bye guys

@math101 Bye!
@jacob can I call you Jake?

$$\int \frac{\cos x}{\log(1+x)}dx$$
There. Much better.

At all?
It's ln though

12:36 AM
@Link There ain't no partial integration, yo.

Hmm
So it's impossible?

@Link Well, let's not get too dramatic.
You can always find comfort in power series.

That's fine?
How would I go about with that.

For example, you can try to reimplement some mathematical functions, like high precision mathematical libraries.

@OrangeHarvester I am just a little kid.

@Novice Yeah, little kids do all the cool stuff. Its easier than you think. You may not reach the excellence of the big libraries, but what you will learn will be really cool and important. Moreover, it will give you confidence.

@OrangeHarvester What software shall I use?

5:23 AM
@Novice Try to implement in C. You have done python, so you have covered the abstract side of the programming. Now, a language like Cwill give you an insight into the implementation side. Pick up the book The C Programming Language for reference to the language. Read the first few chapters and then decide a goal like a numerical derivative calculator and try to implement it. [contd.]
You may also do your programming on C++, but currently C++ is undergoing a big change, and I am reluctant to recommend to you old books which do not completely reflect the future. There are new books but they are too expensive and I have not been able to find them otherwise. But you can use this for starters.
Actually, I take my comment back. The book I recommended seems to have a newer edition of what I have and might actually be good. I will see it and let you know. Right now, I have to go. See you later. Bye.
