A: Is double-clicking a mechanical torque wrench just a habit?

JosephI spent 25 years as a Helicopter technician, and from year one i was Ordered NEVER EVER to double click a torque wrench. This double clicking that i see mechanics do drives me nuts. You are "overtorquing" if you do it twice.

Guys, what do you make of this answer?

@Zaid - I really don't know.
I completely disagree with the answer, but asked for references.

@DucatiKiller interesting article there, thanks.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 he has provided reference in form of his experience

Even so ...

Although I do disagree with the overtorquing claim

I don't believe it either.
If you aren't twisting a torque wrench past the point the point of click, then yes.
If you are only pulling to the point of click, then not a chance.
It would be a great engineering exercise to figure it out, though.

well i bought the c300

@DavidWinslow - Hey :D

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 hmmm

@DavidWinslow Merc?

@Zaid hmmm indeed.

@DavidWinslow congrats. Don't know if you saw my GLK questions. The intake design is quirky!
@DucatiKiller what's up?
Holding out the fort?

@ArtOfCode as a chat question, I'd be happy to talk about possible products (although I can't think of any right now). If the OP is looking for The Answer, that question comes under the heading of shopping assistance (off topic). If the just want to talk theory, I'd be interested in what people think.

@BobCross Sounds reasonable. No migration, then, but I'll drop a link to here for the OP.

Awesome, thanks
If it was rewritten as a theory question, I'd be interested to see the answers. It would take a complete rewrite and I suspect that's not what the op is looking for.

10:36 AM
@ArtOfCode Are you everywhere?! :P

@JoErNanO Pretty much, yeah :)

Q: Is it safe to drive in race conditions with missing lug nuts?

Steve MatthewsYou know sometimes you read something and think "What?" Well, would you be happy to drive a 900 BHP car in a competition with lug nuts missing? Apparently NASCAR has introduced a rule change so that teams no longer have to fit all of the lug nuts after a tyre change. This may see some cars on ...

How did I miss this beauty?

Q: How bad is 30% cylinder leak?

amphibientI recently performed a cylinder leakdown test searching for a cause for oil loss. On 5/6 cylinders, I pumped it up to 90 psi on the left gauge and the right gauge was between 75-80. Only 1/6 wouldn't go past 65. I put my hand on the intake for that cylinder on the plenum and didn't notice and lea...

I think amphibiant has a definitely issue here. I truly wish he'd have followed our advice when he was rebuilding the top end of his engine. No hate, just sadness.

10:03 PM
but the truck was running fine for almost 10K mi
before i took the intake manifold off to check the spark plugs

10:35 PM
@amphibient Exhaust valve leak can lead to burnt valves sometimes. It will definitely reduce the lifespan of the valve. You might just be able to lap it in if you take the head off, although you won't know until you do.

11:01 PM
i have bigger problems than that leaky cylinder
