Does anyone here think it's worthwhile to fix the transmission in a 2000 Plymouth neon that has about 135,000 miles on it?
For the age of it, I'm guessing I'd only be able to get used replacement parts.

@MattS. I'd put a used transmission in it, should be able to find one for about $500.
That's assuming you are buying it from the salvage yard, and you putting it in.
It's about a 3 hour job if I remember correctly

@Movemorecommentslinktotop Unfortunately I don't have anything to lift the car, and I'm not sure I have all the tools, so I'd probably have to have a mechanic shop do it.

@MattS. You may just want to get a quote from a couple of shops. A used transmission will be a lot cheaper than getting it rebuilt
You should be able to get a shop to do it for less than $1000. You may want to let the salvage yard that has the used transmission do it, as that may be cheaper than getting someone else to

Yeah I got quoted $1,200 for the replacement from one shop.
Is there a way to find salvage yards when google search doesn't show any results?
Wait, I changed the words around and they came up, Thanks google.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

@Pauster - I don't understand what the disagreeable component to the discussion is for you. Your comments about "wasting money" and what not are irrelevant to the discussion, your metric on wasting money is different from mine, I have more to waste apparently and I'm willing to poor buckets of it into holes or shoot into the sky if that makes me happy. The configuration itself is proven. I have to motors with the config and know of another 30.
