@DaveLiepmann - You around?

3:39 PM
Yeah, howdy
@JohnP ping

4:22 PM
@DaveLiepmann Sorry, was in meetings at work.

no worries

Have you heard anything about site promotion? I've been made a mod on the new health beta, and I've been looking at our meta and mod participation, and it's kinda sparse, imho.
I mean, there are some mods that haven't been on meta in weeks (not that it changes a lot), but like Nathan hasn't been seen in meta in over a year, and not on the site in the last 3 months.

I haven't...the metrics have been weak for a while
I've been out of the loop on that
I think we're just on autopilot

hrm. I just wonder if we couldn't be doing more (but not sure what) to get the site revitalized again, it just seems like we are doing nothing but hanging around.
@DaveLiepmann GMTA

I remember yeeeears ago there was a push, but nothing recently

4:30 PM
Hrm. aggravating. 1500 days in beta, one of these days they'll can it if it doesn't improve.

Or merge, for instance with sports. I'm undecided on that

I think they would be very resistant to that.

sometimes I think the problem is that almost all the questions within our ability to answer have been asked
it's rare to get a question that's actually novel
(let alone well-defined)

@DaveLiepmann I think it goes a bit to a comment Robert Cartaino made on the private beta for health, that if you want an expert site, you need to attract the experts and right now, we get a bunch of "I want reduce my belly, tell best way to use oligonol to do this?"

absolutely
but then on the flip side, when I think of asking a question myself, I'm not sure a Q&A is the right format
the answers aren't clear-cut on the expert end of the scale, the way they are in sports or coding

4:36 PM
@DaveLiepmann Yeah, that's the same thing health is going to face. But, if you can provide the current research and point out the implications, I think you can construct good answers.
We need to get more on board though, right now there are like 7 active users.

I agree, and it's tough to keep those users around when the question quality is what it is

I can ping the mods into chat, and see if we can get a brainstorming thing going. Maybe come up with model questions on cutting edge stuff, and see if we can get more interest going. Hammer out the question in chat before posting so it won't get flagged.
Unfortunately, I think ivo is right:

@michael Welcome to the world of science, we mostly know shit
@IvoFlipse
@MattChan

I think pre-chatting the questions is a great idea, if we can get people in the same chatroom

I'll come up with a few today and throw them out, and I asked Shog (one of the CM mods) for some ideas as well.

4 hours later…
9:02 PM
@DaveLiepmann - I haven't seen one, but can you recall any posts on myelin sheath patterning? blog.bufferapp.com/…
@DaveLiepmann - I think this study could also be worked up into a good question.
